  1. ohhh, thanks everyone!! I went to Lowes and bought a mitre box and now I have perfectly straight lines!!! (using a serrated knife), I may have to try the measuring cups too, gives me a reason to head to dollar tree! (My husband doesn't understand how i spend 50 dollars a trip in the dollar tree) Lysa
  2. OH MITER BOX!!! I bet that would work too!! thanks!
  3. oh gloworm thanks soo much for the links...I think I will have dh slice my pvc pipe and do individual soaps now, would have never thought of that! Thanks so much....
  4. I tried searching this but found no results..... I am starting to make 3" round loofah soaps (from 3" pipe and Pringles cans) and once i get them out I cannot slice them straight, no matter how I try. all the instructions say to slice with a serrated knife but how do you get it nice and straight? I searched online a found expensive cutters but they are over $100.00.... I know some of you guys have the perfect tool or tip for this.... any help please.... thanks Lysa
  5. I just ordered some last night from specialty bottle,(the 4oz aluminum slimline) since this was my first time ordering i am not sure if I got a fair price but I pd .86 each, if I would have been able to order 288 I would have gotten them about .20 cheaper but do not need that many yet!! anyone else get them cheaper?? I am curious what is the average price on these....
  6. ohhh.... I have wondered about this..... thanks for asking ccmak now I am dying to try this....
  7. Hey I usually order once a week and never seen the scent cellar either???? Um well my favorite are Citrus Splash Sissie's sugar cookies-Strong Dogwood-hardly sales though??? Texas Bluebonnet
  8. I too have been trying to decide whether to go dye free???? The main reason I have not is the wax looks dingy and dirty in between burns?? Not sure if this is normal for all soy or a combo of my wax and FO??? My mother of all people complained about how ugly they are after a burn....??? So still pondering here:confused:
  9. I have a bunch of square braid #4, this is what I used for my beeswax pillars but never tested in containers however they make work....let me know if you want to try some.
  10. I have the one from Bittercreeksouth and now that I have it full I can barely smell anything. I am not sure if it is because the tins are soo small or if the scents mingle with each other....all I smell when I open one to smell is Vanilla Latte from bertsheavenscent. It took over all the other scents, so unfortunately I can't use mine.....A neat idea maybe I need to try candles and supplies.
  11. Actually I have gotten more tart orders lately than anything???? I also have a booth at a local craft mall and every week that is what I am selling most. As far as shipping I have not shipped any so haven't had that problem. Website just opened so maybe encountering that soon!
  12. I cure my 415 with a minimum of 4 days....longer if I can wait. I was testing at 2 days but then gave alot of the testers I did not think threw to my friend and over half of them were really strong when she lit them. I lit one over the weekend that I had wrote off for poor HT and my goodness it was awesome!!( about 1 month old- Citrus Splash from BCS) So now I def wait at least 4 days to 1 week.
  13. wow from Corpus Christi..... Welcome.... I am from Victoria(now I am in San Antonio) so definitely know all about humidity...... Well I basically chose Ez Soy from Bittercreeksouth.com mainly to save shipping here in Texas. However Ez Soy is actually pretty good as far as scent throw but the fosting drove me crazy so after testing I made a blend of ez soy and ecosoya cba and now I have the best of both worlds.... and I can get both from Stafford!!! save on shipping! Out of all the soys I tested- I loved the GB 444 the best but it cost $44.00 a case to ship:angry2: . But EZ soy is almost as good. Good Luck and welcome.
  14. I USE A CD 16 IN MY 5 OZ APOTHECARY.....the jar is over 3in" in diameter so it works perfect for most our fo. I would probably not go under cd 14. that is with GW 444.
  15. oh btw we have been getting a great ct/ht with 1oz per pound with gw 444. I think this is the wax for me or maybe the 464. Lysa
  16. I can understand everyone's frustration when a newbie comes along and thinks it is sooo easy.... to be honest I was one of those until I started doing lots and lots and lots of research. Now I would never let a candle leave my sight until I am 100% sure it is quality. Afterall it does have my name all over it. I have been testing and testing keeping a very detailed log book. My husband and I both come from a strong retail background we know that we have to have a quality product for it to sell. I now know that you can't just make a candle and start selling.... I just think that there are so many ways to say something without being plain rude. There are so many other ways to get your point across. :) Lysa
  17. It must be awful to be a "rude bitch" ......life must suck for the person who feels they have seize any opportunity to be rude. what do you do hang out in the forums waiting for any chance to be RUDE..... Do not worry candlemaker not everyone on this board is rude....and the ones that are rude are probably just insecure about something, maybe even a new chandler. I actually think this board is one of the better forums I have found but i guess there is always one in the bunch who is RUDE.
  18. oh thanks so much gourmetsoy and accents, what a relief, I had read something somewhere about insurance and homeowners insurance etc..... thanks for the web address I am checking it out now! Lysa
  19. I am sticking to GB 444 and 464 for now mainly because of the CT/HT. I have tried ECOSOYA CBA, EZ SOY,NG Palm Wax and all the other gb products 435, 415, 474 etc... and so far the 444 and 464 have done the best for me, other than ugly tops if I do not pour at 100 degrees??? I used to pour at 145 but not now..... if only the ecosoya cba would have a good CT/HT....... oh well!
  20. I'm back to the 444 too, mainly because of the ct/ht. I had issues with ugly tops but i have learned that if i pour at 100 degrees I can tolerate. I wish the 444 would go back to smooth tops for me but maybe when it gets warm again.... The 415 frosts way too much. 464 is equally as good as the 444 IMO but def. wick down for me..... I also wondered about the USA....I posted this same question on another board and did not get one reply....(slow board and noone seems to use 444)
  21. after I read this i missed a few words....that what happens when you are posting at midnight..... I am talking about product liability insurance.....we are currently making candles in a rental home so if I was to start selling candles this year i would HAVE to have insurance coverage but could I get it being I do not own the property that the candles are made on? any insight would be great..... Lysa
  22. I am looking to try and start selling my candles sometime this year and I see I may be able to find coverage but here is my ?? I am not a homeowner. We are currently renting a home until we are ready to build. Will anyone cover me since I am making candles on rental property? I haven't started calling around because I wanted some insight first and I am nowhere ready to sell yet since I am testing testing and testing right now....... anyone in this similar situation? thanks Lysa
  23. So glad to hear her oils are doing well, as I just ordered some:thumbsup: . Monkey farts, lemon biscotti, redwood, fresh cut grass, cimmamon styx, satin sheets, umm i can't remember the rest.... oh well can't wait to see how they do... I love the prices!!!
  24. I am testing all the golden brands right now.. the 444, 464, 435, and 415, so far I am liking the 435 the best for looks and ct/ht, then the 444 (if I pour around 98 degrees, not 120-145 like they recommend) 415 has a great ct/ht but frosts like CRAZY. I am wanting to stay with the golden brands because so far they all seem to have a better scent throw than the other waxes I am testing (Eco SoyaCBA, Joy wax). Well I still have to light these up to see how they burn but so far that is what I am liking. More results to come......more and more testing YEAH!
  25. Well I have been testing all day and making more candles....and now that i have read all these replies. I am looking at it differently. I must admit I am getting better. I know what neighborhood to start as far as wicking, pour temps, etc... We jumped right in too fast. I already have 45 scents, tons of supplies, jars, wicks, equipment, etc.... I guess with that said Its no wonder I am overwhelmed!!! But it is fun. I am so addicted everyday I am thinking of what i can try next. The pressure is on and I cannot turn back now, I am knee deep in wax:laugh2: . We have invested tons of $$$$$ and hoping it will pay off one day but be sure I will make sure I have a quality product and everything I am tempted to sell will be tested! thanks everyone.
