  1. We use these and they are a heavy glass and priced right! http://www.candlewic.com/store/category.aspx?q=c24&title=Glass%20Candle%20Containers
  2. Thanks to all who responded...it was interesting to see which fragrances worked for you this past year. Still hoping to see more add to this thread. I hope everyone here has a Happy New Year...wishing you and yours the very best for 2010. We'll be working on our store this coming year...hoping to open for the fall season...we were going to open this past year, but events got pushed into priority and we had to postpone our opening. We'll be sure and invite our fellow board members to our open house. See you in the new year!
  3. Just curious as to what fragrances have been your best sellers? This year, ours have been: Lilac Pumpkin Spice Sweet Potato Pie Honeysuckle Cinnamon Spice Mountain Lodge Hawaiian Paradise and Chocolate Covered Cherries
  4. Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your son! I wanted to thank you for the tour you gave us when we visited your store in the summer. Visiting my old home town of 30+ years and seeing all the changes was interesting too. Hope you're settling in to the house as well.
  5. I just priced out the same 16 oz. jar we use from the Jar Store, and compared it to Fillmore...Fillmore ended up costing $69.48 compared to Jar Store price of $44.16. Plus, where are Fillmore getting their jars from? China or the USA? At least I know that the Jar Store sells Libbey glass made in the US. Just saying that it pays to shop around first.
  6. The Jar Store... http://www.thejarstore.com Ask for Paula.
  7. Those votives look perfect...IMHO, I wouldn't waste my time with a repour...those "dimples" form on all our votives as well, and we find it usually occurrs when using the wick pins. The amount of dimpling is so minor IMO, I'd leave well enough alone.
  8. Without going into details, I have mentioned in a previous post that CBA is the base for our proprietary blend....90% is CBA...I highly doubt that the remaining 10% is giving us the excellent results we are obtaining. IMHO, CBA does give great HT given the right formula of wicking and FO load. Enough said.
  9. From Topofmurrayhill Being a "CB Advanced Lover" is a temporary condition. What most people learn is just not to use it. Here and there you might find a candlemaker in denial who continues to insist it works. Or maybe they've never experienced a strong scent throw and don't know what they're missing. I am offended by the above remark. First of all...having been making candles for the past 30 years, I feel I must reply to this. We use CB Advanced in our containers candles...have excellent HT and CT, and wouldn't continue to be in business if we didn't have the customers or wholesale accounts to keep us there. We have tested and continue to test many of the soy waxes available in order to continue our commitment to providing our customers with the highest quality product we can manufacture. I am NOT in denial...perhaps just more experienced! I KNOW what an excellent HT and CT is...thank you! Quite frankly I'm not missing a thing. Perhaps those who make parafin candles could better advise others that make parafin candles and NOT those of us who know how to make excellent SOY candles.
  10. We use the FO for our bug repellent candles...we sell quite a few this time of year and also to a local camping site to sell in their little supply store. We do however use a full 1.5oz. pp. We're also currently trying a mix of Citronella with Lemongrass....seems to work in taking the undesired Citronella odor away.
  11. I too agree with Chris. Adding FO at 175 has given us the best results for HT as Meridith mentioned. We use a proprietary blend but CB Advanced is the base.
  12. We use Natures Garden, one of our better sellers at our fall craft shows. We'll be adding it to our regular line-up as well when our store opens this fall.
  13. We were contacted by them a few weeks ago, and got some....but not all the samples they said they would send. ( still waiting..... )Plus....their minimum is 5000 wicks per order.
  14. I agree....absolutely correct....but I honestly don't think Libbey cares about that....it's a marketing ploy....to make you think you're getting more for your buck. IMHO Also...technically...as far as advertising is concerned...they'd be correct in their statements as well....therefore eliminating a possible lawsuit for false advertising.
  15. We double wick our 16 and 10 ounce jars...they are both the same diameter. Our customers prefer it over single wicking.
  16. In actual fact...that container does hold 15 ounces of water if you pour to the very top of the neck. Libbey knows we wouldn't pour a candle that high...and therefore 10 ounces would be the most logical amount of liquid to pour. If you check out the Jar store's apothecary section, they show the jar and then it says "Soy pour 10 oz." right there in the description. Someone using that jar to pour something else other than wax into it could very well get 15 ounces into it. It was confusing for us at first as we use these jars ourselves. The way Canwax describes it is not the best description either....rather confusing on their part. It would have made better sense to say that our former 10 oz jar has now been replaced with the Libbey 15 ounce, rather than the other way around. Not the first time Canwax has described something this way...at least I remember so when I was living in Canada and buying from them.
  17. Just wondering how many of us make and sell votives in our business.....either in a retail store or online. Our votive sales have dropped, and we are considering replacing them with 2 or 3 oz. filled cups instead. We'd like some feedback as to what others think. TIA
  18. Leather Jacket from Nature's Garden is one of our best sellers and the most comparable to real leather we have come across.
  19. Thank you all for your comments. We'll keep everyone posted on the progress of our store opening as well....this fall! We're very excited. We'll invite everyone on the board to the grand opening .... .
  20. This is the label design we have chosen to go with....the fragrance name will match (as close as possible) to the actual candle colour. Thanks for looking.
  21. Well said Farmhouse Treasures...I have been making candles off and on for over 30 years, more seriously as a business for the past 6 years...earn a living from it, and only just this year will be opening our first storefront this fall. I too have questions still....it's an ongoing learning process. I try and help those that ask, and appreciate the help when I ask as well. Unfortunately, there are some those here that feel they are better than everyone else....well just remember those early days when YOU were starting out....and put yourselves in the place of those that are doing just that. To those that are just starting out...never be afraid to ask...there is no such thing as a dumb question...and i invite anyone who has a question to PM me...and I will do my best to answer. There is a wealth of information here, never hesitate to learn from it.
  22. Try RRD 34's, depending on your jar width. Double wick if the width is 3".
  23. See my previous message. Thanks. As far as the label is concerned, we've changed it back to our original design, and will use that......our customers have been pleased with the original design, and will stick with that for the time being. Thanks everyone for your input. Greatly appreciated.
  24. yes...a slight spelling mistake...I know....I was in a rush when I did the label initially....and got caught on it. It's not a "for sale" candle anyways. But thanks all the same.
  25. Thanks for all your input. Scented: That particular size is 1 1/3 x 4....thinking about cutting it down to 3" width...as you previously mentioned about a smaller width label.
