  1. Those are really neat. What is that in the middle? Curious as to how you will package them to ship as well.
  2. Warm the shealoe very gently. Try to mix the shealoe with your remaining ingredients when they are both close to the same temp.
  3. If you use that recipe, melt everything EXCEPT the shealoe. Add the shealoe after everything has been melted and stir. Remember, if you heat it too high it will seperate.
  4. It traces SLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW:laugh2: Gives you a good feel for what you are doing and ALOT of time will go into your first batch. ALWAYS, with 100% castille, get a stickblender. Yes, it will take a LOOOONNNNG time to cure, but you will love it in a year! For anyone new to CP soaping, you should KISS it! Keep It Simple Sweetie! You don't need massive amounts of $$$ ingredients to make good soap.
  5. Do you want a natural or syndet? Syndet go to The Herbarie and look under their formulas. http://www.theherbarie.com/The-Formulary-p-7.html Natural you would have to make as liquid soap. Kinda sorta like CP except you use POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE as opposed to sodium hydroxide. If you are new to soaping (CP) altogether, I would suggest going with a syndet one.
  6. I wouldn't go that high with CO. Only because my skin doesn't do well with that high of an amount. That said, I prefer higher amounts of Lard and Olive. But that is just me. I would go with this: Lard: 45% OO: 35% CO 76 degree: 15% Castor Oil: 5% As you can see, from all the different posts, we are all choosing something different. In the end, it will be what YOUR skin likes. That's why you will make lotsa batches. My personal opinion for your FIRST batch would be: 100% Olive Oil. That way you get a good idea of what you are doing without feeling rushed.
  7. I have been really considering those log molds. Please do tell how they unmold for you. They are pretty soaps.
  8. It's a surfactant. Here's some info for you. http://sci-toys.com/ingredients/cocamidopropyl_betaine.html http://www.makingcosmetics.com/Coco-Betaine-p30.html http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/Surfactant-is-Not-a-Dirty-Word-p-19.html
  9. I'm guessin' it would be me!!!! http://truthinaging.com/ingredients/cocamide-dea/ Safety Measures/Side Effects: The FDA includes this ingredient, as well as all other fatty acid diethanolamides, on its list of permitted indirect food additives. Many people oppose using this ingredient in cosmetic products because studies on rats have shown that it can lead to the formation of nitrosamines, which are carcinogenic. Research has also demonstrated it to be a mild dermal irritant and sensitizer. However, the CIR Expert Panel has concluded that as long as Cocamide DEA isn’t included in any products containing nitrosating agents, carcinogenic nitrosamines will not form. Furthermore, they’ve determined it as safe to use in rinse-off products, and at concentrations of less than or equal to 10% in leave-on products. http://greentot.wordpress.com/2009/02/22/cocamide-dea-linked-to-cancer-and-miscarriages/ http://www.preventcancer.com/consumers/cosmetics/diethanolamine.htm
  10. Yeah, but not the above recipe. I kinda made one up as I went! It contained: Baking Soda, Cornstarch, SLSA, Disodium COCOAMPHODIACETE, FO, color, Shealoe. Haven't had a chance to test them yet though.
  11. I'd suggest freezing first then do what Carebear described. They should slide right out. Just don't push to hard or they won't slide... they will FLY!
  12. If you were buying a shaving product which size would you prefer and why?

  14. What type of places carry lye? I have always bought it online and never really checked in my area for it. If you can give me some ideas, I may be able to find a place around here.
  15. I've used Celestial Colors for my bath bombs. You just have to work FAST! to stop any attempt at fizzing. But it IS possible.
  16. I've never had "colored" glycerin. It has always been clear. I would check to see if it IS actually glycerin or if it got mixed up somehow. If you don't get an answer, IMHO I wouldn't use it.
  17. Those are cute. Isn't that your Americana bubble bar? Red (apple), White & Blue
  18. CBE, Have you ever used them together? I am curious. I may try a batch with each ingredient and see what I like best.
  19. I don't know. I use it in one product for summertime only but I still don't want to have to deal with that issue.
  20. Then they buy trish's blend. Or you could use Trish's Sunrise or Sunset Tropical Trish Trish's Dream
  21. I have heard of that... but that makes for darn cold legs when its the last pair you have!
  22. I normally use Hydrovance in one of my products in place of glycerin. Now it seems alot of suppliers no longer carry it. Apparently, over time it becomes unstable. Has anyone used HoneyQuat in place of Hydrovance and if so how does it feel?
  23. The pumpkin is great. Number 1 seller in the fall.
