  1. I love, love the infrared thermometer I stole from my husband :rolleyes2 so far he hasn't seemed to miss it....it is so much easier and quicker than waiting for the digital....and you can easily point and read different areas of the wax in the melter to make sure you're getting an accurate reading...i have had less temp related problems since using one...
  2. me too...turn it off when done....the thermostat is just not consistent enough to leave it on when not in use....
  3. I use that jar and also get them from Candles & Supplies.....I don't use your wax but I use anywhere from an ECO8-ECO12 in most FO's in that jar. I've also used a CD18 successfully on really hard to wick FO's HTH
  4. Not sure if it's helping sales...I don't have too many fans yet but here's mine. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Haddam-CT/CT-River-Candles/8862515317
  5. I just received a really cute 4 cavity rose tart mold from Flexible Molds and I'm having some problems getting the tarts out of the mold without breakage. I've poured around 150F and then lowed to 125F and both times I've had breakage. I've also tried spraying with silicone spray with same result....the mold is a little deep so I even tried not filling to the top. Also tried again and added some beeswax...still losing the edges of the flowers. This is my first attempt at these types of molds, usually I just use Wilton shapes with good luck.... Any advice would be great appreciated.
  6. I received a call from a Bill Long from Long Sales and Imports regarding his ability to obtain good pricing on candle lids. I noted that he's located in Chillicothe, Missouri which is also where Mr Missy's is located.....anyone know if they're connected. He said he imports alot of pottery so I'm wondering if he supplies Mr Missy's since they sell alot of that stuff.....with all the negatives voiced regarding Mr Missy's, I figured it would be worth asking if anyone else got a call.... Thanks Brenda
  7. Thank you for all of the feedback.....I like sockmonkey's idea about offering a free candle based on the order amount....easier for me than starting with additional jar sizes
  8. That's exactly what she said, once she started burning, sales went way up because customers could see and smell how they burned. I think I'm going to go with the 4oz'ers.....they would be inexpensive to make and I could provide a couple of scents per order. Also from what I've read they seem easy to wick....
  9. I don't think not providing will stop them....I went in today and she had pulled one of the ones she bought off the shelf and was burning....I don't see how I can control that but you make a good point
  10. I've been asked by a couple of my wholesale accts if I can provide a small candle or candles with their order so they can burn them to promote sales in their stores. I'm agreeable to doing this but I'm not sure what size to provide. I currently make 16oz masons and was thinking either a 4 or 8 oz jelly would suffice and not cost too much.... If anyone currently provides something like this, what do make? Thanks Brenda
  11. Update: Contacted Elevance today via email based on the new problems. Please see thread below....the most recent response first. As you can see, they have stressed working with the Supplier but I don't think the supplier have been at fault in any of these instances because the bad lots have been purchased from different suppliers.... will update if I get any response worth noting. Brenda Re: Any updates on the C3 Lot Numbers I sent ... Thu, January 7, 2010 6:59:03 PMFrom:Brenda Hunter <blt212@yahoo.com> ... View ContactTo:Leslie Sosa <Leslie.Sosa@elevance.com> Cc:Customer Service <CustomerService@elevance.com> Thank you Leslie for your quick reply and update. I appreciate your response but still would like to stress that the symptoms experienced are exactly the same in both of these lots and the same others in the past. As I'm sure you can understand, my concern is based on future quality and consistency in this product. The boxes I've purchased since have been fine but knowing that others are experiencing the same issue does not give me or others on the forum confidence that the problem has been resolved by Elevance. If any information does become available that would help solve the mystery, I would very much appreciate being notified. He has also been in contact with the person/company who is having the issues with the C-3. There have been no new developments on the issue with your lot number L9I24. They have not been able to find anything wrong with the C-3 sample from you. The lot in question from Candle Wic is L9I29. I read in my candle forum that another member is dealing with the same issues I had with my C3 soy wax that we discussed in the thread below. It is also the same lot number that I had so it appears that there is still a problem with that lot that Elevance has not found yet since it's still cropping up in other boxes from other suppliers. In this case I understand it was Candlewic. Can you let me know if there have been any updates on this issue... Thank you, Brenda Hunter CT River Candles Haddam, CT
  12. I use the wick stickers from the Candlemaker's Store and they stick really well even when pouring at higher temps (180F).....I had used others from BC, CS and others that always came loose. I preferred not to deal with the glue if I didn't have to so I was glad to find these. Someone on the forum mentioned them working well and that they also came in sheets....makes wicking go alot faster.
  13. That was the exact letter word for word that they sent me .. that's all they did was change the name......very frustrating that they are assuming the problem is with the candlemaker and not with the product even after having been contacted by multiple people with the same problem....
  14. It's happened to me a couple of times and the last time it was the same batch number as yours that I had purchased from the Jar Store. Unfortunately, after quite a few emails back and forth with Elevance and sending a sample, they said they couldn't find a problem. I personally think there was water or some other liquid heavier than oil in the wax. I could see a puddle of it in the bottom of my turkey fryer floating under the wax. I found if I didn't stir and let it settle I could extract it with a turkey baster. If it stayed there there was all kinds of crackling and popping noises when heating the wax. Another trick is to heat the wax higher and stir very slowly to keep the bubbles to a minimum and pour hotter. Lastly use the heat gun to help dissolve the bubbles from the top of the pouring pots before pouring into jars. I found I got the best results pouring at 175F. If I poured cooler the bubble would line the sides of the jars and appear like frosting. I did up end using the two boxes I had and after doing all of the above, the candles ended up coming out fine and burning fine but it took alot more work than it should have.... Sorry to hear you're having to deal with it... if you have any other questions, feel free to pm me. Brenda
  15. Thanks...I am looking into Propay after I checked with Mal and he confirmed CDGcommerce is not compatible. I want to find a cc processor that I can use with Mals but also be able to authorize cards at shows using my laptop and Verizon card and it looks like Propay is going to be able to give me both without costing as much as many of them. I think I'm going to take the plunge and get the Propay Reader as well.... Brenda
  16. Actually those are nice but their not the ones....I found a better pic and attached....and I also found these art glass jars that are pretty interesting...can't imagine where you could find either. I wouldn't mind getting some just to make gifts for special friends.
  17. Thanks Carrie.....appreciate the help. Happy New Year... Brenda
  18. I have a customer who asked about these jars....anyone know where to purchase and if they're candle safe. They have wax in them but we know that doesn't always mean anything... Thanks Brenda
  19. Ok, heard back from Mal, cdgcommerce is not compatible....so what does everyone use with Mal's....I contacted my bank and the rates are through the roof with them. I guess I'll keep googling the names in his list but if anyone has some feedback, would love to hear it. Thx Brenda
  20. Anyone using cdgcommerce with the Mals shopping cart. I've been searching the threads and I recall someone saying this was a reasonable one. I checked their site and their prices look good. I also contacted them and they say they have an emulator that's compatible with Authorizenet so they should work with Mals but I'd rather know before I purchase. Also contacted Mals but waiting to hear back. If anyone has feedback in the meantime, I'd appreciate hearing your experience.... Thanks Brenda PS: Happy New Year!!
  21. You guys are great...thanks for taking the time to check out my site and colors....appreciate the feedback. Since I'm using Voda, changing anything requires a republish of each page which is a pain. I guess there's a work around which mimics DWT but I haven't figured it out yet...so not changing is fine with me. I will check out the table though...didn't even know there were browser safe colors...I'm definitely just a novice at this website thing Happy New Year! Brenda
  22. Sorry to hijack the thread but it is related to websites and how they appear on different computers. I just got a new laptop for Christmas and my site looks quite different on it than it does on my desktop PC. Is this just related to the monitor types. On the laptop the background is more robins egg blue and the links are hard to see where as on the desktop the background is more blue/green and I think the links look fine. Now I'm wondering about what the optimal colors are to use to cover as many variations as possible.. Thanks Brenda www.ctrivercandles.com
  23. Thanks Richard....I probably didn't explain well I was wondering about how to create a nice email greeting in outlook that I could send to my outlook distribution list. Maybe I need to use stationary or something to get it to view correctly in Outlook. What's even more odd though is sometime after I posted this question, my website was hacked and used to send spam emails. I'm in the process of working with my hosting company, Vodahost, to find out what happened because right now my site is down on Christmas week and I'm more than unhappy about it.....bad, bad, timing
  24. It's a little late now but I wanted to send a holiday greeting to my outlook distribution list...anyone know a quick and easy way to do this...maybe if I start now I can get one out for next year. Thanks much...
  25. Did a search but didn't find anything on moneybookers...Anyone use it with Mals? I use the free shopping cart and moneybookers is compatible with it....looks like the fees are low and there's no monthly or setup fee.....but maybe I'm missing something.
