Sorry, I don't know the dimensions of the shell votives. I decided to go with the tumblers. The folks at fairway are really great, though, if you decide to call them. They'll send you samples of the jars you're interested in, and they ship FedEx, which I absolutely love. They have a status-type jar that isn't on their site, but if you ask them they'll send you samples of it as well. I had my samples within three days way back when, and that's what impressed me the most about them. As far as Canada, I'm not sure who ships to Canada and who doesn't. I know Fairway has warehouses all over, but you could try giving them a call. Sorry I couldn't help more. Candlewic also has the same tumblers for about the same price, but again, I don't know about shipping to Canada.

It's not a tumbler, it's a shell votive. It comes in only 2 sizes, 3oz or 7.5 oz. The tumblers have the heavier base, and are more expensive.

My first suggestion: Stop making us pull teeth to get information from you if you want help... 1. where did you get the kit? 2. what type of wax does it say it is? 3. what are all the steps included in the directions? 4. what, exactly, are the steps you took? If you didn't use dye, there shouldn't be any color. It's just too hard to play a guessing game. There are more than enough people willing to try to help you.... but help us help you.

I like some names that aren't completely descriptive... When reading the scent description, the word that stuck out to me was 'hypnotic'. Some, I'm sure for marketing reasons, don't like names that don't give the consumer an idea of what it smells like... so that might not work. But I like it, and it would catch my eye.

I completely disagree... Most people who have been making candles for a while don't add vybar or stearic to their soy wax (some add UV inhibitor or USA, I do believe). I would suggest always following the manufacturers rec's. They've spent the money to test, and know what their wax is capable of. 415, for example, can hold up to 12% FO (although I'd never suggest using that high of a percentage). That's without a thing being added. I would strongly suggest to the OP to limit who they listen to for advice. There are many, many people on this board who have actually been making candles for a very long time. And then there are some who just started. As far as trimming the wicks, I leave mine a bit longer. A bit over 1/4", because I don't want to trim them too short.

To me, dried herbs are nothing but a brush fire waiting to happen. Much more dangerous than EO. Candles aren't the way to go if you want 'natural.' During the debate on organic waxes, you'll notice that the ingredients for the wax are 'certified' but the process isn't. A field trip to a soy wax refining plant would be in order for anyone who even tries to suggest that soy wax is natural.

I tested CS first... I find it very true, and it isn't weak in my 70/30 blend. I almost always choose CS over other suppliers, if the FO is comparable, since I can drive there to P/U orders.

Not overdone, not hard to say, something that is smooth and rolls off the tongue. I think a hidden cabin, deep in the lush forest... the sun peeking through the pine boughs and dancing along the rough-hewn boards. Catching a hint of the sea spray, mixing with the rich smell of the woods and the freshness of the wildflowers and grass. So... Hidden Cabin?

Wait... they don't make these any more?? I remember stopping at Stuckey's and getting those butter rum sticks. My gramma liked black licorice. Those were the absolute best!

I don't mind the discoloration so I don't "fix" it. Some FO's go towards yellow, some orange, some brown'ish. It just adds character, in my opinion. The only suggestion I would have is to add candle dye. As far as adding FO, I add it at a much higher temp. But, I also use a soy/paraffin blend. I think that the FO needs to be added at a higher temp so that it can bind with the wax. It wouldn't hurt to try it on your next batch. What's the worst that could happen? Experimenting is fun.

just like in soapmaking, different FO will discolor wax. It has nothing to do with the PKO. PKO is palm kernal oil, maybe it's being used because someone thinks it will harden the wax?

Or, you could join the Boycott BCN campaign I'm on... her site sucks, I'm surprised you persevered enough to actually buy something. CS has the best cinnamon buns I've tested, followed closely by TSB. ASS has a kick ass berry bundt cake, as well as other scents for soy. Pun, get it? KY's oils are great. Stacy at DS promotes herself as a vanilla/ bakery lover... she has some good ones... cake batter, the absolute best buttercream, peach jam cheesecake, bjbc, the list is too long for me to type them all. There are so many suppliers that are terrific... why limit yourself?

Personally, I use a soy/paraffin blend. I refuse to do a 'facts about soy' page... because most of it is complete hype. Without paraffin candles, what would happen to the petroleum industry? They serve a very, very important role in the big picture. Soy candles DO have soot... it's just not black. They aren't any cleaner. People should be informed of CORRECT facts, not hype. I was raised in the midwest, smack dab in the middle of huge soy bean farms. We couldn't even drink our well water due to the chemicals used. I will forever support the American farmer though. Just as I'll support those who work in off-shore drilling rigs off the Texas coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Balance is the most important thing for planet health. Not misguided tangents of running blindly on misconceived facts. Yankee probably stopped because they weren't making any money on them. I'm sure it's that simple. They are a big company, supply/ demand, etc. I'm sure it had nothing to do with their ecological or philosophic views on a damn thing. Money... that's the green that most businesses believe in.

oh yeah, sorry... I've heard that they don't get scents in stock in anything close to a timely manner. I've also heard that if you add FO to your SS order that it bogs it down. They won't answer emails, their phone rings endlessly. I have experienced that myself. Personally, I'd find a replacement. If they weren't close enough for me to drive to should they piss me off badly enough, I would have to find another supplier for coloring as well. What's it smell like and maybe someone can give you some alternatives?
