yeah, even though I know what eclectic means, I hate to say it. It's not a fun, happy, professional sounding word. It's harsh and cold. Not something I'd use to represent candles or anything cozy.

you can't fix stupid... the best thing to do is try to educate the buyers who are willing to listen. You can't tell someone else how to make their candles. Any chandler who would let something like that be put on a shelf obviously doesn't give a shyt. I understand the save-the-world mentality, and not wanting someone to buy a dangerous product... but I think you've done all you can do by bringing it to the store owner's attention. Doing anything else will make you look like a pushy know-it-all to the owner and the other chandler. And things like THIS is why some of us can be tough on newbies!

You have to do your own testing (as someone else said, I'm just acting like it's an original thought because it bears repeating) 4. Every person smells things differently (again, as someone else said... but, you get the picture). 5. As a newbie, you'll get thumps around here. How you handle them dictates many things. Unfortunately, it's a mild form of hazing. We can be a tough group, but we can also be a very helpful group. What most of us WON'T do is hand feed you. You show that you're willing to work, and I bet every person here will help you with a specific question. ETA (cuz I thought of some other stuff) 6. I make my own wax blend. FO that I like might not work in your wax/wick/jar combination. 7. there are some companies that Just Seem to be popular that I can't ever get a good throw out of... it all comes down to testing. 8. Some people won't use a supplier for something other than the quality of their oils. Recently, I've decided to never buy from Bittercreek again. Not that I used their FO, and not that I have a judgment about the quality of their FO... but the supplier herself ruined it for me. So, as you can see, favorite suppliers is a very personal thing. You ask for a personal opinion, you're going to have to allow for such things. How did I do at the good cop thing?

"soy" is a bit of a generic term... and soy is a vegetable, along with other botanicals (cottonseed, etc.). I think IGI says vegetable to keep from divulging exactly what's in their waxes. Think Crisco. It says on the label "vegetable oil", and I'm sure in fine print somewhere it says hydrogenated soybean oil. The terms are interchangeable.

or... you could get more oils from Tony's. Badedas Jo Malone Goddess Black Pepper I haven't tested them, but I heard that they were good. Hope that helps.

Ahhh... that explains my confusion! I use CD18 primarily, and I thought it a given to test at least one size up and one size down... I couldn't live without multiple sizes of wicks on hand, so I assumed every one else did that too. Other than that, I have no advice.

why wouldn't you try a 16 or a 14? I'm a bit confused by the question.

personally, I wouldn't expect a whole lot of drama from a website anyway. If someone is searching for a candle to buy, millions of sites will come up. If they are looking for your store, then they can google your name and it will come up. I do that with KY candle supply all the time (just because that particular bookmark is so far down my list that I'd have to scroll, and for whatever reason, I end up googling instead of scrolling). Another thing to remember is that most people bookmark sites. If your name is abbreviated a bit (2ofseven.com abbreviated into TofS.com for example), it wouldn't matter because your customers would have it bookmarked. Google is everyone's friend, don't underestimate the perseverence of some people. If I want Ky candle supply, I'll find it.

Both blueberry cobbler and med fig threw wonderfully for me... both in 444 and in 70/30, 7%, cd wicks.

Renee, please don't take any of this personally.... you happened to get caught up in a huge drama that one person is creating. None of the replies were directed at you, guaranteed.

I've never had one of their two- or three-leaf rated FO's not work in soy. There are some I personally don't care for... but they all had good throw.

Those Of Us Who Have Been Doing This For A While Generally Add The FO At A Much Higher Temperature. The FO Won't Bind With The Wax When Added At A Lower Temperature. Of Course, It's Always Best To Do Your Own Testing As What Works For One Person Won't Always Work For Someone Else. I, However, Always Add My FO At A Higher Temp. And Have Great Results. It's Very Hard To Capitalize Every Word.

I've never liked soy wax in votives. I finally settled on 6028 for melts/clamshells. It has paraffin in it, but I get beautiful colors, gorgeous look, terrific throw, etc. etc.

adding another thought... chocolate FO always seems to be really strong and overpowering. I always cut back on it.

Ok, well, I called CS... When they first started testing the 6036, they were told by IGI it was closer to a 70/30. Apparently, since that time, IGI has reformulated it and it's now closer to a 50/50. Also, I asked his opinion on how the wax performed and his reponse was 'good' but he needs to test it a bit more to know for sure what to expect from it. And it's soy/vegetable btw. Doesn't IGI try to stay away from saying 'soy' and only say 'vegetable'? I know one of the companies does that...
