  1. It's so very seldom I hear of problems with Candle Science. And their customer service has a good reputation. It's worth the call ...
  2. Peak carries IGI petrolium waxes and, if you click on the underlined wax name, will take you to a brief overview of the waxes IGI offers: www.peakcandle.com/category/Waxes/Paraffin-Wax.aspx And this link goes into a little more depth: www.bittercreeksouth.com/waxes.htm and includes more specific information.
  3. With 4786 I do get wet spots - but the shape of those on the light colored candle is something I've never seen. I would make sure the inside of the jars has been pre-washed. I do pour hotter than you do - closer to 200 and also in pre-heated jars. 4786, as you can tell, is a 2-pour wax that shrinks as it solidifies. It will pull away from the jar wall and the wet spots will occur. They seem to vary in severity with the room temperature, too. I honestly don't know if experimenting with adding soy to this shrinking wax will be worth the time. Personally, if it bothered me, I'd switch to another paraffin. I stay with the 4786 because I love the scent throw.
  4. Just wondering if you are talking about actual air bubbles or are you trying to describe wet spots? (4786 is a 2 pour that has some shrinkage - notorius for pulling away from the sides.) Can you post a pic?
  5. What a unique and generous gift! These will make the wedding more memorable, I'm sure.
  6. Guess the formulas belong to the manufacturer she got her oils from so the manufacturer would be the one to make the decision to divulge their formula. If they don't then the only hop is to find some company that would try to dup a particular oil.
  7. If I remember correctly a FO manufacturer she was working with was having problems. So if they weren't able to supply her anymore that source for anyone wanting to start carrying the same oils will be out of luck, sorry to say. I just found out (from Bert) that she does not wish to share any information. I'm pm'ing you.
  8. From what I understand there are just a few seats left - registration closes very, very soon (Sunday I believe.) So if you RSVP'd I suggest NOW is the time to finalize the registration! All the info and links are in the first post. Can't wait to see everyone!
  9. Will pour testers this month and full sized jars early July. Targeting a complete inventory by August 1st.
  10. i agree with your instincts about the seam weakening since thin metal can expand & contract with the heat. From experience I definitely would caulk the inside. It really doesn't take much and you only have to go up to the wax level you plan to pour. I highly recommend you use the high temp type. And as long as there is no direct contact of the caulk with the flame, there shouldn't be a problem. Keep up posted!
  11. Moonshine - I can't help on the wicking but wanted to mention another potential problem. Many times the metal is joined by folding and doesn't produce a leakproof container. Although it says it can be used for florals there are thin plastic liners that are used for that application. I would recommend that you fill one with water and see if it leaks (which means the hot wax would leak too.) If it does ... or if you want to make sure they all won't leak ... you can get some high temp gasket sealer or high temp clear bathroom silicone caulk. Just seal up the seams on the bottom and up the side. If it does leak it makes quite a mess. (bad memories) Good luck!
  12. Definitely agree ... especially the ones I've seen at Wally World. When I saw how much smaller they were I got a couple of the older large ones at Yard Sales that I'm keeping as a backup.
  13. Supposedly there is a round polypro (Recycle code 5) that is the traditional round shape and is clear. I have yet to find out if the cap is also polypro or another type of plastic. It is very clear so I suspect it may be a 6. More info to come next week ...
  14. After repeated attempts I still have not received any info from the manufacturer. Still trying ... but things don't look too good.
  15. If I'm pouring just for the throw I go small ...if the throw is there then I'll pour a full size tester to ensure the wicking is correct.
  16. Actually with the paraffin wax I use I have to preheat the jars to prevent jump lines. I can put the cases (jars and all) under the light bar to warm them up. That light bar also works very well for evening out the tops of soy candles too - but I only do it when I have a HUGE order. The drawback to the restaurant type light bar is that, because of the amps it draws, it has to be hard-wired into the electrical system with its own breaker which means you need to decide on a dedicated work area. Also, in my area, it requires a trip to city hall for the permit and a licensed electrician to do the job. And let's not forget about contacting the insurance company to see how it will affect your policy. Definitely not worth it if you are doing less than 15 cases at a whack in my opinion.
  17. If it was so easy I wonder why she was getting out of the business? Maybe it just wasn't challenging enough. (Yes, that is sarcasm.)
  18. Yep - I also read about the Glass Glow problem ... but never heard of a Starburst problem. Patiently awaiting reports about the Peaks Sparkle Light ...
  19. I believe Candle Science had stated that they did not feel sure that the planting/harvesting was done with their ecological standards. The product itself performed well.
  20. Only tried one wick - ECO-2. Hope that helps!
  21. I've sent messages to the manufacturer ... and a call that wasn't returned. Will try again ........
  22. I use more PB than 135 ... 75/25. In my experience with 135, and just as you observed, the more PB you use the better the throw. The most important part of the melt, however, is the FO. That's why testing is so important ... it's about finding the right FO that will throw in whatever wax combination you decide to use. HTH
  23. I've been in contact with The WebRestaurantStore and they say they have enough of the Ellipso (oval) other sizes (2oz and up) and are expecting another shipment soon. The 1oz clear oval are discontinued by the manufacturer. They have some 1oz black oval in stock ... but they haven't been able to tell me if the manufacturer is discontinuing them also. I have contacted the manufacturer and they will call me back on Monday. I'm hoping to talk them into doing one last run so those of us who need them can stock up. If they are willing to do a last run I'll get the minimum number and maybe we can do a co-op. Keep your fingers crossed ....
