  1. Hey Stella, I'm not Vio (don't feel bad, even my son thought she was me). I thought of the brittleness and said no, but saw a post on here about carved candles and soy, the photos didn't show up tho. Sigh. Zodiac pillars?? That I've got to see! Crap I'm not ready to carve, just interested... I'm still tryin to wick those darned palm pillars (took a 2 mo break, by the way- planning on taking them on next week). Right now I've got a starburst 6 oz ball palm pillar with atlas cedarwood eo burning. I thought it was overwicked, but seems to be burning quite nicely after an hour. Watch for lots of pics in the gallery soon! Got nothing better to do- out on disability. Got any suggestions for a great candle for my uncle? He has been 'helping' me out by sending me money bc of my disability. He wants some sort of remembrance candle... my grandma (his mom) died on New Year's Eve 2 years ago. I'm thinking he's wanting something special for her... She was a die-hard Christian, if that helps. I miss her! Her name was Viola and I still feel as if she is my namesake- G'ma Vi. Someday I will be G'ma Vi. Everyone already calls me Vi. Way off-topic but still... that's me ... ADHD! haha.
  2. That's what I thought, as well... but, if not burned, I guess I can live with dealing with a bit of paraffin. Of course, it's on the menu... Not something I plan on doing right away. My son saw it (he's nearly 18) and said boy, I bet you could make some $$ making those... LOL. Yah... lol. Candles and money don't equate. But it sure is fun! Thanks Vicky! Now gotta get this nasty naiouli EO scent off my fingers. Yuck. It sounded nice! Har har...
  3. Is this workable? I've been reading about them for quite some time, but really don't want to go back to using paraffin. Some of the stuff that paraffin can make (rustics, carved candles, etc) is so beautiful, though... Can this stuff be done with soy pillar wax? I use ecosoya pb. TIA! Violet
  4. I've been playing with new votive wax and new essential oils, trying to perfect what I thought was already perfected (wicks!), so I haven't really been looking for any venue to sell at right now... I do have one wholesale order for unscented soy votives, yay! She's buying 120 votives for $80- that'll get me a case of my wax, not making any $ off the deal, but will have a lot of wax left to play with so it's cool. Essential oils in palm wax, various colors. I did sweet fennel, french lavender, juniper berry, Lemon Eucalyptus and atlas cedarwood the other day in starburst palm wax. Tonight or tomorrow I will finish with Florida Lemon, naiouli (stinks oob in my opinion), eucalyptus & spruce, in palm wax (would try in soy but don't have the wax yet, ran out of it the other day). These are for the lady who is buying the 120 votives... going to give her a votive of each scent. I also poured rose geranium, clary sage and ginger EOs in feathered palm for her. Hoping to get her to buy 4 or 5 types, maybe mix some scents (some are nauseating, like the clary sage, but may smell good with a sweeter scent added). I got my samples from a lady on Ebay- www.meadowsweet.com And testing my ocean scent in 16 oz mason jars, C3 wax and CD16. I am pretty sure I'm gonna wick up to CD18. I was using CD20 but didn't like the fact that some of my jars had the tendency to soot a bit. I hate soot! Testing 5 oz apothecary jars in palm and soy. I have some pics I'm gonna put in the gallery when I get around to doing it... I had 4 votives and 3 jars going at once the other nite... anyone would have thought i was either crazy or a fanatic. lol. Poured a 6 oz ball with atlas cedarwood EO and couldn't get it outta the mold til I stuck it in the oven for 15 min. Note to self- spray molds before pouring!! I think that's it but the weekend's still young! :laugh2:
  5. What wax and wick combo are you using? Maybe your wick is too large?
  6. In my opinion, the white tea & berries was more of a sweet scent rather than a musky scent- not at all like white tea & ginger, etc... I like it. Hope this helps.
  7. Eh... it could just be my nose- plus I had brandied pears and pumpkin souffle burning at the same time, both of which are strong scents. Tomorrow maybe I'll just try burning one at a time to see if it's just me.
  8. Peaks: Wild Mountain Honey Tuscan Nights Blackberry Sage Birds of Paradise pink sugar It's 5am and I'm suffering from insomnia, so that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others! Don't know Daystar at all...
  9. I had a sample of CS's LS and was just test burning a votive the other day- I didn't really find it offensive, but I don't know if I really like it enough to sell it. I'm sending a friend a few votives to see how he likes it since he's a candle nut. We'll see...
  10. Hyacinth (CS) English Garden (CS) Night Blooming Jasmine Rose Lilac Tulip (Millcreek has an awesome Tulip) These are all florals, I know, but I love florals, and yes, I'd use any of these as air fresheners. Chocolate something, like someone else said White Tea & Ginger (SOS has an awesome one) Sunwashed Linen (SOS)
  11. Asian Amber- I got a sample and put it in palm wax- it's lovely! I'm gonna get a pound next time I order wax. Wildberry Mousse White Tea & Berries Hansel & Gretels house- blows ordinary gingerbread right outta the water! Very sweet, though... so if sweet isn't your thing... this is a great seller, though! Chocolate FUdge- very strong scent. I mixed this with chocolate chunks and cherries/raspberry embeds... Smelled awesome and sold fast. Chardonnay Moonlake Musk- LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Def am gonna get this sometime soon. Violet Lime- gonna add this to my line soon.... gotta have a violet for violet Lovespell- I like it, don't know if I'll add it or not though. Golden Rose was a nice one- a change from your reg rose scent Pumpkin Souffle- definitely replacing my other pumpkin fo with this one when the other one runs out... yummy! OOB, blueberry cobbler was great, but once put in wax, I was a bit disappointed with it. Same with mediteranean fig- cold throw was okay, but not too thrilled with the hot throw. Plumeria was another disappointment- I have not found one to replace Cajun's yet. Sigh.
  12. I would cut back on it, too... my spring rain FO is so overpowering at 1 oz per lb that I HAVE to use less. It's nauseating. I have Chocolate Fudge from Candlescience.... never had a problem with it being overpowering like that, but it is a very strong scent, as well. That's another one I'd do 1/2 oz per lb. Wish all FO's could throw good at that level- it'd sure be cheaper! :rolleyes2
  13. My ex-husband used to say that about me... and I'm not a taurus or scorpio
  14. I don't use those waxes, but I read about how to determine the strongest hot throw before... basically it goes like this. Burn them on a table, spaced evenly apart, and once an even melt pool is established, hover over them, wafting the scent towards you with your hand, going over each one, then lift your head up and sniff... the one that has the strongest throw should become apparent. I hope that makes sense. I think I read it on this board somewhere. Good luck!
  15. After like 2 months of trying different sizes , I finally tried CD3- burned very well... clean, good throw... no mushroom... Melt pool was kinda deep, though... like an inch after 2 hours... what do you think? I couldn't pour it to the rim, however, since my wicks were only 1.25" and the jar is just a tad bit taller than that. Wondering if I should try a CD2 tho, as it seemed to burn rather quickly. I think burn time was maybe 8 hours (three burns). Does that sound right for this jar? Used C3, no color and willow whispers FO from FOH. (6%) Before I order CD3's in the 1.5" size, I thought I'd ask other people's opinions on this. Atleast I'm finally headed in the right direction.
  16. Well, tried the 105, no color, C3, with willow whispers FO from FOH, and so far, so good. Good melt pool, nice even flame, not too high, no mushrooming, jar's nice and clean. Yay. Haven't burned it all the way to the bottom yet, but halfway... Wouldn't it be cool if this worked every time one tried to wick a container or pillar? LOL. I'll post once the jar is empty.
  17. I don't know about you guys, but after the awful times I had with both V1 and P1, I don't even think I'd chance ordering this stuff- plus buying 25 lbs at a time just to experiment is a lot of dough... or maybe I read it wrong? Now if they offered free 1 lb samples to those who were disatisfied with P1 and V1, that'd be cool... lol. One can dream...
  18. Never used that sort of mold, but with that width, maybe double wicking it would help? Stella or Jakalex use palm too... maybe they can help if I bump your post up Violet:smiley2:
  19. I too dislike P1- I spent countless hours trying to successfully wick a 3 " pillar- finally gave up. I am on the bandwagon when it comes to Ecosoya PB... but I haven't tried a pillar yet with the exception of a ball... that worked wonderfully. I believe the widest point on that was around 3", using a zinc wick that was 60 something... Ugh cannot remember but if you're interested, PM me and I'll look at my notes.
  20. Yay! I am glad you found some notes to start from. You should put your husband to work and make him figure out how to make those combos!
  21. I did something like that last year- I was using one of those dish wands to wash my pour pot, same color as the one used to wash my dishes. BAD IDEA. Our dishes all smelled like FO. Now I use a metal scrubber... can't mistake that for the wand! Good thing he didn't get seriously ill.
  22. Cancer here, too.... and I can get very crabby when trying to wick jars and pillars that are stubborn. I finally wicked a 1.5 oz hex jar and got my 5 oz apothecary going good... yay... now for the pillars- grr. I looked at an old palm pillar I sorta gave up on months ago and said, yep, you're next, you pain in the *&$. Hehe Good going sniffie. .
  23. I don't know about that candle company, but I had a container that I needed to rewick- yanked the old wick out with pliers then stuck a new one in... it was okay til it was near the bottom. Then it fell over... extinguished the flame. Same thing has happened with votives that I was testing wicks in. I don't think I'd wick a candle w/out a sustainer base because of my own experiences... but never saw a fire, luckily.
