  1. I tried using super glue and it didn't adhere. Tried using the tabs you can buy at WalMart and the like- but once the candle got too hot, the wick floated... I stand by the wick stick-ems. The ones with tabs are great, too... They do not try to move or float! Just my personal experience after making hundreds of container candles.
  2. Nevermind- I found it... No one closer than those I've already checked out (and bought from). I guess I'll just have to deal with them. http://www.naturewax.com/distributors.html
  3. Thanks, Amy. When I do a search for cargill, I get so many results and none are their actual site. Does anyone have a link to their website? Thanks! Violet
  4. Does anyone know where I can get C-3 nature wax in upstate NY? There are two companies within driving distance, one nearly 2 hours away, one about 3 hours... I'm looking to save on shipping by buying in bulk and picking up. Anyone know anything? I'm near Albany, NY. All of my web searches have wound up at dead-ends. Thanks in advance!
  5. How about a quart size widemouth jar? I double wick it with 2 large zinc wicks. The flame is good until midway then apparently it has problems. I've seen it go out- the flame gets weak. Should I wick with 3 wicks? I can't imagine using larger wicks because the wicks are already pretty wide. This is more of an aesthetic issue- and for customers, too- those who don't want to watch the candle constantly to see if it goes out or not (especially on one side). Thanks !
  6. I've heard of curing soy candles and was skeptical. I had a few tarts laying around that I decided to sniff (they've been sitting since Dec. b/c they are Christmas scents) and they were stronger! Wow! That being said, however, I don't think that all candles need to cure. I think it depends on the scent. I have a very strong blackberry sage scent that I use all the time and love, and it comes out very strong even when I burn it the next day. I think using your judgment is what is needed. But hey, if you can wait a week or so, great! My customers order and I make their candles. Should I tell them to wait a week to burn their candles? By the time they get them, it's probably almost been a week, though. So maybe I shouldn't... What do you guys think?
  7. It sounds like double wicking is your cure but with smaller wick sizes than the CD 12's. CD's get hot fast, at any rate. I have not experimented with apothecary jars of that size but just know from experience with other jars that smaller wick sizes are better when it comes to double wicking. Maybe size down a bit with two wicks... Apothecaries are known to be wide so you probably can't hope to use one wick, at any rate. I had a problem with my votives a while back and there is a lady I buy CD wicks from on Ebay whom I swear by- she sells samples of CD and LX wicks. If it weren't for her, I would never have solved my votive issues. Now I have clean-burning votives all the time because I was able to buy quantities that allowed me to test without breaking my pocketbook- a minimum of one wick per sample at around 6 - 8 cents each plus minimal shipping. Good luck!
  8. What doesn't work with LX or Eco? Do they die out, smoke, burn too quickly? It could be the size of your wicks, not the wax. Or the fragrance. I use C-3. It works well with CD wicks and Cotton core. Mushrooming is an issue, though. I have zinc and they work well but they aren't very popular with people- people tend to confuse them with 'lead' wicks, which are illegal and unsafe and probably not very common at all in the US. Could also be the jars you're using? What sort of candles are you making? Shape? Etc... There are so many variables. I have spent months working with different wicks in order to find the right ones, and even then, soy can be testy. I've used Eco in votives but the wicks were too small for my votives. Let us know more details.
  9. www.saveonscents.com They are wonderful- they have tons of different scents, offer free samples w/purchases and offer free ups ground w/purchases over $100. It's good to try a sample size first, though, as some scents aren't as strong. I've tried a lot of the popular ones, so anyone can email me to ask about particular ones I may have tried. violet@violetsexoticcandles.com Have a great day!
  10. C-3 wax is great! Some scents won't absorb so well with it, but I have smooth tops... especially with a heat gun, and even after the initial burn, it sets up nice and smooth.
  11. Try two cd 12's. I have one of those jars and have repoured it quite a few times. I use C-3 wax. I've also used medium sized zinc cores, but I don't like the way they smoke. Here's a pic. sorry about the glare!
  12. Try French Vanilla Supreme from Save on Scents. It's really strong and wonderful! My daughter is 6 and guesses the scents and she was right about this one, too. Good cold throw, too.
