  1. I made some votives in a mold and after inserting the wicks I realize that the tabs on the bottom are pretty obvious. I've pushed them in as far as I can. Is there some trick to making them lay flatter or not stand out so much?
  2. Even with purple dye I could always see the glow when the candle burned down. Maybe not as strong with certain colors but I could see it. Just like you said, not so thin that it will break and spill but maybe a bit thinner to see the flame. JMO but if I couldn't see the glow from within what would be the point of burning a pillar without any light seen from the flame? I burn tapers and pillars for the look of candle light more than for scent throw. You know, romantic lighting:).
  3. It's been a few years but I use to use that wax. I didn't add anything to it and I got smooth tops. I wish I could remember what temperature I poured but has been too long. Take Michelle up on her offer to help. EL has great customer service!
  4. I like the bulb ones better than the tea lights also. Which watt bulb for use depends on the instructions. I've seen different ones sold using various watts. The very first one I purchased was from a craft fair and there were no instructions given. I was having problems getting some tarts that were made with a high melt point pillar/votive wax to melt in the warmer. I used a higher watt bulb and when I checked on the warmer it wasn't working and there was black soot from the cord at the base near the bulb and down. I was lucky that I didn't start a fire! I believe the one I have now uses a 30 or 35??? watt and it works fine with the high melt point tarts.
  5. I had the same thing happen to me and I was so confused that I didn't have the nerve to post my question. I just thought I had done something, some how wrong. I am so glad that you did and that Candleman responded.
  6. Those are very nice. I love that shade of green! Perfect burn for palm, looks like you are going to get a nice pretty glow down the center as it burns!
  7. I have seen people burn candles that look exactly like the one in the photo and they have no clue that it isn't suppose to burn that way. I once went to an automotive store and the cashier had a container candle burning that had at least 1-2 inches of wax on the sides and it had burned past the middle of the container. There was thick black soot one side of the container. It appeared that she had never trimmed the wick. I couldn't keep my mouth shut and pointed the problems out to her. She said "Oh, well that's ok I like the way it smells.":undecided I have come to the conclusion that sometimes some of us can become obsessive about making a perfect candle. Nothing is wrong with striving for perfection but I know I can harp on the slightest little thing when it comes to my candles. I have been doing some testing with a new FO and I keep getting just a bit of hang up on one side. Nothing like what is shown in the photo, just a tiny bit of wax. I have outstanding throw both cold and hot and a melt pool in just the right amount of time. I had to remind myself that compared to alot of the candles I see people using and continue to purchase my little wax hang up ain't nothing!
  8. Thank you for the link. For some reason I am still a bit confused:o . At first it sounded a bit like a hurricane but after reading all the information it isn't exactly like a hurricane. It has been a while since I worked with palm but I recall having to pour hot into heated molds. It seems like if the glass votive that is in the mold the hot wax might shatter the glass? So you pour into one mold, hold the votive glass in place until it sets up then pour another? Gosh, that seems time consuming! It would take all day just to make a few of them. I think I need a visual of the mold & insert or a demo of someone actually making one. LOL!
  9. I am also going to be the odd man here. Peaks is indeed awesome but for me in both soy and in paraffin I had to cure this one extra long to get a good throw.
  10. I like their oils in B&B products better than in candles. I didn't get good result in candles but I was using soy and a soy/paraffin blend. The prices were just too expensive to keep testing in wax.
  11. From my experience the answer has been yes. If it works in soy it usually always works in paraffin, maybe not palm but paraffin almost always. For me palm was the most difficult for hot scent throw, then soy. I have had those FO's that just didn't work in anything no matter what percentage of FO used, wick type, cure time...
  12. This has got to be one of my very favorite FO's. I LOVE IT! It just goes to show that you can never really guess what customers will and won't like. I was so sure that everyone was going to love this FO as much as I did that I made a ton of candles and tarts in this scent. Very few customers were interested:undecided . So I started burning it in my shop because I just knew once they smelled it in action they would like it, NOT! Adults said it was too sweet but kids like it. Shocker! I still can't get over that others were not blown away by this FO. I think it is awesome!
  13. Another vote for Fragrance Oil Central(carries the former A Scent Shop/Scents For Soy oils) if you are using soy wax. Of course different soys have different results in combo with different wick types but I find if I let it cure a bit longer than usual the throw is much better.
  14. I've seen the pretty photos of the Forever Palms in this forum and I did a search to locate instructions. The search only displayed threads with photos. Can someone post how to make these? For the life of me I can't figure out what you would put in the center of the mold to keep it hollow that would actually come out in place of the votive or tea light once the wax hardens.
  15. Ah, yes that is indeed a big help. I'll start off with a couple of testers in 1-2 sizes larger wick then what I have normally used. Thank you for the tip!
  16. Ok, you have inspired me to start soaping again! Wonderful work:bow: I would love to be able to make soap 1/2 as nice as that Acid Trip!
  17. I have Golden Brands 444 wax and was already to start testing but there aren't any instructions for use with my order. What temperature do I heat the wax to and at what temp do I add the FO and pour?
  18. I think it is great that you are including the warning on your label. I haven't sold any of my B&B it has strickly been for my use. I am still surprised at how many items I have purchased from individuals and have never once seen this on any label. Do you think having this warning on your products would hurt sales? To be honest, if I would have seen that on some of the items I have purchased I probably wouldn't have purchased them. JMO
  19. I've had the same experience as Candleman & Flight. It was nice of you wanting to share anyway.
  20. I posted another question concerning label requirements for very small containers. When I was reading the information at http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/cos-lab3.html#clgc I came across the following. Am I understanding this correctly, if our products have not been evaluated and toxicological testing completed on the formulated product we are suppose to have the warning label written above? I had assumed that the products were safe if each individual ingredient had been proven safe. I wasn't aware that the finished product had to be submitted for testing. I purchase B&B products(lotions, bath bombs) from craft fairs and farmer's markets made by individuals and I have never seen this on any label. Am I interpreting the above correctly?
  21. If my container is too small for a label is it ok to include ingredient listing, instructions, warning... on a hang tag or maybe place the product in a poly bag and have the information printed on the bag? Does it have to be directly on the product itself?
  22. Those are very lovely. I wish you good luck & hope business picks up soon. I know how you feel. The market in my area is so over saturated that if things continue like this I will probably be throwing in the towel also. Especially with suppliers raising the cost of our supplies. It just isn't feasible cost wise to keep at this as a business. You do nice work, good luck!
  23. I had that problem until I started heating my glass before pouring. The instructions didn't state that it was needed but I discovered that heating my containers made wax look better. If I don't heat prior to pouring I get that frosted look. I was also using paraffin wax. If you are going to burn them in the same container a container wax would be better suited for that purpose.
