  1. For some reason Candlewic's prices that include shipping are less than I can get local.  This has been the case for about 3 years now.  Honestly haven't check any other suppliers other than my local & that.  I think with postage up again, UPS, FEDEX & FREIGHT up again everything will go up.  It's hard when you're not making $ at it and it's just a hobby.

  2. 1.  It was just under a year when we started our first website and began to sell (other than friends & family who started as testers and wanted to buy).  Yes it was a good choice, in the beginning it supported the purchases and when I started doing markets and wholesale I made decent $. I also made decent $ in the past 2-3 yrs since I quit all my wholesale accts and just sold in my stores.

    2.  Yes & No, started small with fo, think I had 6 scents,  1 wax, 1 jar, 1 tin  and grew with the business $.

    3.  Yes, most of my client base came from my wholesale accts (my email was on every label.)

    4.  I personally walked into every resale site I wanted to wholesale to and provided them a sample melt and or candle.

    5.  I've pretty much always worked outside of candles, so my fun (zen) job was candles.

    6.  I did many when I was younger, not in the past 10 years since owning the antique malls.

    7.  Tried Etsy for a bit but I really wanted to sell gift sets on there and did a few only.  That was back when everything offered on Etsy had to be handmade so I couldn't include a warmer.

    8.  Started as a partner with my niece, she got too busy for it all 10 years ago.

    9.  Never a candle storefront, but sold in both my antique malls.

    10. Yes

    11. Area in my home that has been designated a workshop (last house had a studio apt below us that I used, this house has an added on section that I was using.

    12.  This is so subjective to wax, time etc.  Someone with 6 scents & 1 jar  or just melts who dedicates a whole lot of time to candles could possibly be ready in 2 months.  Most people start with way more scents and want multiple containers and begin to try new waxes with the first that fails them in any way.  The only advice I can give here is to pick a wax and work thru the issues to make a good, safe candle.  Once you're in business if you want to start testing other waxes on the side, that's great.  Unless you're rich you'll waste a whole lot of time and $ testing multiple waxes at once.

  3. When I had what I'd call near perfect environment to make my candles, my own shop, controlled temp & controlled humidity, I didn't get the sink holes near as often.  I lined my SS table with cardboard and put a cardboard box over candles, use C3 and had very little issues.  Since moving I'm on an enclosed porch with no heat except that from the sun and it's a nightmare!  Yes I've pulled in a space heater but I just can't seem to get anything to work like it did before.  Luckily, I'm not selling anymore so for me it's just play and burn.  It did factor into my decision to sell my business a year early.

I was looking over Aztec's website and reading the reviews on the liquid dyes and other people also commented on the foul odor. As you suggested, I went ahead and called them to make sure they weren't rancid or something and the lady said they do have a strong odor. Guess I won't be using the Aztec dyes anymore, they are not for me.

Plus, when I used those dyes in wax melts containing 444 Soy wax, the C&H scent throw of those melts had an odd odor very similar to the dyes. Sorry, I know this is off topic and referring to a different wax than this post was meant for but I wanted to mention it for anyone reading this post.

Yes you def don't want it to affect your scent! yikes

Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone reading this post. I bought some liquid dyes from Aztec within the last 4 months and I hate them simply because they stink and I mean a strong, mothball, nasty repugnant stank. :frown2:  They just about make me throw up and I do wear a mask. They are very concentrated and they make pretty colors but I can't deal with the odor.

HMM, swear I've tried theirs and they didn't stink but it could have been Flaming.  Since I sold all my stuff I can't go look, lol.  Def have bought from Candle Science and phew.  Maybe call Aztec and ask them.

Right, I think as TT said, coconut 1 is coconut oil 92 with another name.  They cost about the same too but if someone lives close to a soapmaking supplier that has coconut oil 92 maybe they can save $ on freight buying that instead of shipping in 50 lbs of coconut 1 wax from one of the few places that stock it.
I don't see the point of coconut 2 especially if one is already blending this with soy themselves, as I imagine anyone would.   It's not as if you can really use it as a stand alone wax.

Super soft IMO, I just felt it never used it but I didn't like the feel so walked away.  Was told it was more for the massage candles but idk I guess with that low % of soy wax it would work for those.

  7. Agree 100% about using a small % of peppermint, it does overpower some scents completely.

My fav is peppermint & dark chocolate (warning, may cause you to eat all day!)

It really does well with a lot of scents you probably would never consider, I've even mixed it with florals for a twist.  I do not like Rose on it's own so I've pretty much tried mixing everything with that one.  I've also mixed with Lavender, Sweet Pea & Farmers Market (I think that's the name?? mixed floral)
