  1. What kind of glass did you use? We only buy glass from candle suppliers because it can withstand temperature differences. Thin walled glass from dollar stores etc might not be tempered glass and is meant as decorative only.
  2. There was a huge thread on double wicking 4 inch containers where Stella and I posted some photos...it's one of those trial and error things. Depends on your wax, etc. I single wick my soy with #5 square braid wick. Good luck!
  3. I would think any floral supply warehouse would have this.
  4. Vegetable waxes can be caranuba wax, palm wax, soy wax, coconut oil derivatives, etc. Swan's and Calsoy carries different ones.
  5. Hope you found a solution...my guess would have been that you poured too hot. I work with C3, a soy wax. These occur most prominently the hotter you pour. The reason being that as your wax contracts around the cold glass, it's still hotter in the center. The center cools last, but by then, all the wax has cooled and pulled away from the center, leaving a hole. If you temper the wax, much like cooling hot chocolate when you make fudge, you will have a much better result.
  6. Crafty, I scanned the thing for you and now I can't find it on the computer! I feel so un-computer-savvy. Used to be better at it...have these posts helped you? Should I try to scan again?
  7. I'm with Stella...I'm not sure what you are all doing. I've never had any of this either. The only thing I have trouble with, which I'm working on right now, is the wet spots in my thick walled tumblers from Genwax. I get them with nothing else, just these. So tempering seems to work and pouring really low, like 120. I do get the ring cracks, but they are teeny, and a quick heat gun gets rid of it. I notice those only when I pour really hot. I hate to think there are "bad batches" of wax...just that they may burn differently. (What fertilizer was used on that crop, etc?) Don't give up! If you are committed to making all-soy candles, find a method that works and a wax you like and then stick with it. You'll be glad you did.
  8. For all the trouble, why don't you just buy a new Presto and retap it? I wouldn't want to go through all the trouble EVERY time I poured...but it seems like a good quick fix for this order. Good luck!
  9. You're welcome...just be sure to get a valid phone number. Good luck!
  10. It depends on how you run the fundraiser...is the checks/cash going to you and then you send money to the organization? Or do they pay the group who in turn pays you? If they are paying you directly, which is sounds like they are, have them fill out a separate sales slip with the name, address, phone number, card number, exp date, name on card, signature, and run it when they are turned in. It's such a pain...would you lose business if you didn't accept credit cards for a fundraiser?
  11. I use a square braid wick in my 3in palm pillars. They burn very slowly, so the wax has time to heat up and get used, if that makes sense. If your wick is too hot, I would think it would tunnel pretty quickly because it's just consuming the wax closest to it before it has time to heat the wax further. I had a hard time wicking my palm wax votives for this reason, so I gave up on them and stuck with the 3 inch pillars. I don't do containers in it, but would think it might act similarly.
  12. I would stay away from it myself. It probably will bleed. Wax is an oil, whether it's hardened or not. Tissue paper may be better since the paper itself is waxed.
  13. Or is it frosting? Might need to pour a bit warmer...what kind of wax is it? My soy frosts more, even with additives, unless I pour it hotter.
  14. I agree it's the opening...it creates some kind of wind tunnel. Flickering is always caused by a draft, whether it's from a door or the jar. Flames create their own wind, so if the jar is a certain shape, you are creating your own weather pattern in there! You could try one of those draft protecting toppers, or just stay away from the jar.
  15. Do you mean the FO is pooling on top, or are you talking about wet spots? It they are wet spots, a heat gun will take care of it only temporarily. If it's cold that's why its happening...mine are doing it too.
  16. That is an awesome idea! Then everyone could have a set of bags when they sell...is that the idea?
  17. Oooooh, bummer! Pulling your pillars out a little too early I think? Some of mine get a little bit of a waist whether I pull them out early or not...good point though. Note to self: Need more duct tape...
  18. I tried this today with acrylic topcote from FolkArt...it actually worked! I even ran it under the kitchen faucet! Wooo-hoooo! No more packing tape for me!
  19. Depending on your green, you can just cut the dye in half so it's lighter...works for me some of the time.
  20. I have Cranberry Balsam from Just by Nature...it's a cranberry with a touch of a fir to it...I love it!
  21. My husband actually printed out an Excel file from a website a year ago when we were getting started that has all of that info and more. Unfortunately, I just looked at it and there is no website address listed because it was a downloaded file. If you PM me with your e-mail address I can make a copy of it/scan it and e-mail you a PDF if you like.
  22. Why not try the bead boxes with hinged lids from Wal-Mart or such? Cheaper than a special order...
  23. You are so sweet...you're welcome! It is fun, just don't put too much pressure on yourself. Life is too short to freak out about anything, nevermind candles.
