  1. I use CS's frosted tumblers, they are not thin. They're nice and heavy. The box they come in says 'Libbey Old Fashioned' glasses, so you may be able to get them a bit cheaper if you search that.
  2. Exactly . And if you have some FOs that are older but still smell fresh, and you know you're not going to get to them, heck, sell them here, or on ebay! I've only had a few one ouncers go bad (plactic-y, chemically smelling)~~I just threw them out.
  3. Although I hate to admit it, after a couple years or so, I'm not sure either. Unless it's that real green type note that you smell in the fresh scents. Please someone, explain :embarasse With that said, I have to second (or third) the Dreamcatcher. This is definitely in the perfumey category~~it's awesome . And I'm really curious about Beneath the Stars now.
  4. Hey, that's a good idea about the shoebox thing. Haven't made soap in a couple weeks, but I'm on vacation next week...sooo.......I'll definitely be trying out some log batches lol.
  5. So far I've only used slab style molds, but I'd like to the log style. I've been thinking about trying out these plastic containers, but thought I'd better ask here first lol. Has anyone used those disposable plastic containers~~like the Glad, Ziploc, etc? If so, did they work okay?
  6. I love it! We took a daytrip to the outer banks this past Saturday~~this reminds me of it
  7. I haven't had trouble w/ fo not incorporating either. Although some are definitely heavier, and need just a little longer stirring time. I also keep my pour pots (i.e. pyrex cups) in the oven on 'warm', till I'm ready to measure and mix.
  8. This is a semisoft wax, not hard to cut at all. It comes in layered slabs. My husband made a little gadget with 30# fishing line attached to 2 blocks of wood, and we cut the block in thirds with that, then 'push' the layers apart (hope this makes sense). Then we put 3 of the little slabs in 2 1/2 gallon zip lock bags for storage, which are reused. Then all the bags go back in the cardboard box it came in for storage. HTH
  9. That's nice! Just off the top of my head, I wonder how a pink colored mica in place of the beads (along w/ the TD) would look?
  10. I've never bought any of the Cider FOs, but what I did was rename Candlescience's Apple Jack and Peel to Spiced Cider .
  11. I agree w/ putting a couple pics of your candles on the home page. Yep, the brownie ala mode does it for me, along w/ the mug of beer and the martini The thing that I personally notice w/ websites is how fast the pics load. Your site has plenty of pics, and they load very fast on my dial up. A very good thing!
  12. The 2 batches were CP, w/ oatmeal, honey, and coconut milk added to my basic recipe. I don't really think wether or not the soap is MP or CP would have anything to w/ the scent morphing once it's wet. I imagine the scent is stronger once the water and steam hits it, and it's just more evident. Our sense of smell is a pretty individual thing, but if it's stinky to you when it's wet, it would most likely be stinky to someone else . Since you're using MP base, I'd probably do like you're doing, and continue to try and find an fo that suits you (and matches the OMH theme ). I suppose my point was that the almond fragrance that so many suppliers have in their OMH fo~to me~doesn't 'go with' an OMH soap recipe. HTH
  13. Although I've never smelled WSP's OMH fragrance, I'll give my JMO on situation. Does it smell like almonds? While I've only done 2 batches of OMH soap, the first one was not scented, and the second one was with an OMH fo that smells like you're typical almonds. My brain just cannot connect these 2 things. While the unscented batch was going through gel, it had an awesome, subtle graham cracker type scent, and if we could bottle that, we'd be millionaires. With that said, and again, this is JMO, if you really want to scent it, maybe a cream type fo, or just a bare touch of cinnamon. Not sure if this helps, but trying to:)
  14. I'm just not understanding the minimum to Canada, period Wondering out loud, because I don't know much, if anything about int'l shipping. I'm sure folks in Canada, along w/ other countries, expect shipping costs to be higher when ordering something from the US, so they pay it. So why the minimum~~especially that high of one~~if they're willing to pay the extra cost of shipping? I'm definitely missing something here, maybe someone could explain it?
  15. Okay I am going to attempt to add pics of the soap here, one indoors and one outdoors. They were cut day before yesterday and are hardening up slowly but surely, guess I just got paranoid . These are not trimmed or anything, so be kind lol! Woa, these pics ended up being big~sorry to my fellow dial up users:(
  16. Great! I'm glad to hear it isn't the lye That was worrying me. I trimmed it and just set the whole slab back in the mold, and will check it each day. Looking at it, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong other than the softness. I mean, the texture looks to be consistent throughout~~no separation, oily spots, holes, lye crystals, etc. Keeping my fingers crossed it hardens up like it supposed to
  17. I made the following recipe Sunday afternoon, and when I unmolded it today, I had to trim about 1/4 inch from the sides because they were still 'creamy'~~a little softer than playdough. Ran through soapcalc, 2 pound recipe: 65% Olive Pomace 35% Coconut oil LS 30% SF 8% 2 oz fo 1/2 tsp pink kaolin clay Everything went as usual, it took a bit longer to trace, but was definitely at trace when I poured. I also noticed that it was still warm yesterday morning when I checked it, and you could tell it gelled, but not quite all the way to the edges. Plus it ashed quite a bit, but that part doesn't really bother me. Normally I can unmold after 24 hours, but yesterday it was still really soft, so I waited till today when I got home from work. No zap, but I haven't cut it into bars yet, too soft. The lye I used was from AAA chemicals, it was the cheaper stuff that they sell Trying to save a buck. The lye is not pure white like I'm used to, it's an off white color. This is also the first time using the pomace and the clay. What happened? Any ideas? Thanks for any input!
  18. They all look gorgeous! And I love your Stonehenge Runes Keep us updated on the color!
  19. This is interesting~~I never heard about adding glycerine to MP base. I have about 6 oz laying around that I've got to do something with lol :smiley2:
  20. In my case~~it very well could have been! Along w/ the fact of using central heat in the colder weather. It's not a soap I personally would want to use all the time, though, no matter how long the cure. Especially if it's scented w/ Anise (sorry, just had to throw that in lol)
  21. I've only made one batch, and that was w/ SF of 15%. DH uses it, and says it doesn't dry his skin out now that the hot, humid weather is here (it was a bit drying when the weather was colder). I plan to make it again using 20% SF, and I'll try it then. Plus it will be scented with something other than the Anise that he talked me into putting in that first batch
  22. When I made a 100% co batch a couple months ago, DH talked me into adding star anise to it (he loves licorice). I used it at 0.5 oz ppo, and I agree with Lovelylathers, it's very strong~~you could easily go down to 0.4 oz ppo and still get a nice, strong scent.
  23. Never tried the 6 oz, but my 8 oz. tins are my best selling candle~~plus they're wickless.
  24. I made a pumpkin soap using pumpking powder, mollases, cinnamon and clove eo, and ground ginger. It smells nice and spicy, but it took 3 months to cure out and get hard!?! Next time, I'm discounting the water a bit, and using ginger and nutmeg eo to replace the ground ginger and clove eo. Scented~~your banana soap sounds great. I'm thinking..add a touch of coconut fo.. MMmmm.
