1. Just because a wick burns the candle doesn't mean it's the right one. You need to make sure that flame height and melt pool are correct. Once you find a wick that works in your tester you need to test EVERY fragrance oil that you plan to carry because each oil is unique and can burn differently. You'll also need to test with each new batch of wax because that can change from batch to batch. I test 3 candles out of each new batch but some test more and some less. The testing is an endless circle but it does get easier once you get your basics figured out.
2. I'd say it is going to be pretty much impossible to single wick those jars. I'd start by trying to double wick with 2 HTP 83's.
3. What is the diameter of the jar? How long had the candles been burning when you took the pics?
4. Push on them bubbles and if liquid then it's a good indication you used too much fragrance oil and it is seeping out.
5. I'm also testing a 70/30 blend and started testing with the Performa line of wicks yesterday. So far it looks like my lighter scents are going to work with a Performa 140 and heavier scents with a 180. This is in a 2.5" diameter jar and the 180 is as large as the Perform wicks go so they may or may not work for a 3" jar.
6. I've found that I usually need to go up 1 or 2 sizes from what they have listed on their site. All of the oils I've gotten from them have been fantastic in soy. I buy the ones with the 3 leaf rating since they've tested in soy and found them to be good throwers.
7. I've not tried the forever pillars with votives but I make them using the tea light glass holders and the CS Starburst and mine do not melt.
8. Okay, I'm confused. LOL Are we looking for a 2" round (ball) mold or a 2" straight round (flat top and bottom) mold?
9. Out of the 3 parasoy container blends on the KY site which would you recommend? Improved Perfect Blend, Original Perfect Blend or Parasoy Container? Anyone know the soy ratio in the blends?
10. Now that u mention WSP I think I have a whole case of the Crafters Choice SP in my closet that I bought last year. I never really did mess with it much but from what I can remember I had soot/smoking issues with it. Anyone know what percentage of soy/paraffin is in the SP wax?
11. I'm wondering if anyone makes their own blend of 70% soy and 30% paraffin that performs well? I know a lot of "blenders" don't like to share their recipes but I'd be eternally grateful if someone could point me in the general direction of which 2 waxes would work best for this type of blend. The shipping on the Green Leaf 70/30 wax is a killer or I'd go that route but if I can create my own blend from waxes that Candle Science carries I'd be able to save a ton. Thanks for any help or advice!
12. I've seen them here in our local vet office so apparently there is such a thing. I have no idea what's in them though ... maybe an odor eliminator AND fragrance?
13. I've tried the Glass Glow and Starburst. The GG is awesome, very good scent throw and for me it's been a single pour wax. I've only used the Starburst for everlasting pillars so I can't really comment on the scent throw but it makes a beautiful candle. I'm still testing the GG and did try the CSN wicks but didn't like them at all. They are not rigid and once I got a good melt pool going they tended to slump over and go off center.
14. I went to Lowe's and bought some pvc end caps to use for my plugs and then drilled a hole in the solid side for a screw. I can't remember the sizes of the caps or screws that I bought though. I just took my mold and glass tea light cup with me and tried different sizes until I found the things that worked. Here's a pic of the pvc cap with the hole drilled out. I just put the screw in and then screw it into the bottom of the mold. Then I put my tea light cup in and pour.
15. I'm in the try a new wax mood and am going to give the Ecosoya CB 135 a try and am wondering if anyone has a tried and true method for pouring this wax? I *think* I tried it when I was first starting out and if I remember correctly I couldn't get a smooth top unless I zapped them with my heat gun. Also, is this wax prone to frosting? TIA
16. Please say it ain't so! I just ordered the 8 and 12 oz status jars to begin testing with in hopes of them being my new containers.
17. It's definitely a hard wax so you should prepare yourself to wick up. I poured testers in 10 oz apothecary jars (4" diameter) and double wicked with 2 LX 18's I believe. I don't have my notes down here so I'd have to check them to be certain.
18. Yep, that's the only way to do it with that wax. Poke relief holes and then do a re-pour.
19. I tested with it and the only problem I had with it was the air pockets. It makes a pretty candle though.
20. I use Avery and made my own template for the 2 x 2 5/8 labels and my labels print out perfectly. If you'd like I can send you the template file, just need an email address.
21. Thank you! It definitely does help because now I know that if I can't get it to behave in a container I can use it for my tarts.
22. Jami, I'm testing the GB444 in my containers now and am curious, when you use it for tarts do you have a problem with rough tops? I'm still testing but so far I've had to use my heat gun on every candle to get smooth tops with this wax.
23. I've tested both the HTP83 and LX14 and I prefer the LX. I get an even melt pool right off the bat with the 14 whereas with the 83 it took awhile for the melt pool to even out because of the curl in the wick.
24. I also use Ecosoya PB for my tarts. I've found that if I pour cool , around 125, I don't get the sink holes in the middle.
