1. I put my wick through the hole left by the wick pin and leave a bit sticking out the bottom, I heat the wick tab with a lighter and then pull it the rest of the way through. This melts the wick tab into the bottom of the votive ... works for me!
2. Yes, I used the new Starburst Palm from Candle Science for that candle.
3. This is an everlasting candle using a tea light holder.
4. Ditto what Candle Man said. I bought some of the bags from WM and packaged a large order of air fresheners in them. Boxed it all up and sat it by the front door before going to bed. I got up the next morning and as soon as I went downstairs I could smell Passionate Purple (fo I used) so I went into the kitchen thinking that I might have forgotten to put the lid on the bottle. Nope, kitchen was cleaned up and all utensils washed and lid was on. Went into the living room and OMG, I just about fell over from the smell. I opened up the box and sure enough, I could tell that the FO was eating through the bags because my labels were saturated. Sorry for the book but thought I'd share so you don't make the same mistake.
5. You can measure the weight by either oz or grams, your choice. You just have to convert to whichever method you want to use. ie: 1 ounce = 28.3495231 grams
6. I tried one with 7% FO and it seeped. Suggested FO load on this wax seems to be on the money.
7. I agree with grama. I've never been able to really smell any of the peach fo's I've tried so thought maybe they just didn't agree with soy. I poured a few different scents with the new CS palm that I knew were some of my weaker scents (peach being one of them), all of them threw better in the palm than in my soy but the peach was still very faint, a tad bit stronger but not much.
8. ROFL, I guess I'll stick to my own method then.
9. You used the Glass Glow for pillars? The GG is for containers so if you're using it for pillars then that's why they won't release from the molds.Since you're doing everlastings and won't be burning the actual pillar I don't see why this wouldn't work unless you find that the GG starts melting around your insert. You can try adding some palm stearic to the mixture, might help it release from the molds.
10. Has anyone tried Golden Rose from CS? Is it a true rose scent?
11. I used 1 oz pp of Fruit Slices from JS and the throw is awesome.I burned a 2nd time for 4 hours and the hang up never did melt so I'm going to test tomorrow with double wicks.
12. I've seen a lot of posts from people asking 'what do you charge' and 'how do you figure out cost' so thought I'd share my spreadsheet. This spreadsheet doesn't figure in the cost of additives such as stearic, vybar ... etc but feel free to customize it to fit your own needs. This is an excel file so you'll need either Microsoft Excel or Open Office to view and work with it. Link
13. I didn't add stearic and mine came right out of a brand new mold without any problems. I unmold while it's still warm so maybe that makes a difference.
14. Thanks for all of the feedback, it's appreciated and will be taken into consideration when I have time to work on the label some more.
15. Before I started pouring my testers without wicks and THEN poking the holes for the wick I remelted and re-poured many candles and it didn't seem to affect the wax or scent at all. I've also melted down testers and poured tarts with the wax.
16. That looks similar to the burn result I got in my 16 oz apothecary (almost 4" diameter) using the CSN 14. I did have quite a bit more hangup on one side than you do so yours should catch up. I'm trying 2 LX 12s in the 16 oz now and the burn is looking good! It didn't melt the hang over but beneath that I have a full melt pool.
17. I poked around in my 16 oz apothecary and didn't find a single air pocket. I was going to poke around in the pillar too but it was too pretty to mess with plus the pillar itself won't get burned since it's an everlasting.
18. Yay! I'm glad you got it to work for you. All of them are absolutely gorgeous! I especially like the way the blueberry cobbler glows.
19. Here's the same everlasting pillar with a waterslide decal applied. And the results of the test burn on the 16 oz apothecary using a single CSN 14 after a 4 hour burn. What's got me baffled about the uneven burn is that the CSN wicks curl like the htp's and the curl was towards the side that didn't melt down, me breathing over the jar shifted the flame and makes it look like the wick was closer to the melted side but it's not. :undecided At any rate I'm going to try it with an LX wick tomorrow and if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to double wick this jar. 20. I use a briefcase light box, a black to white graduated background and 2 EiKO Supreme Photoflood bulbs in those big metal reflectors (walmart for $10 each). Then I just resize them and add a vignette border in Paint Shop Pro.
21. Definitely! I don't know at what temp wax catches fire but I'm sure it has to get pretty darn hot.
22. Do you think maybe her container had a hairline crack that you didn't see when you poured?
