  1. I've purchased a few things from SS - good company, good oils. I'd recommend them
  2. Are you using the EcoSoya Advanced blend by any chance? If you are then this may be your problem. When I used this wax I noticed that some scents had very good throw in it but there were also, unfortunately, quite a few that had very little throw. This is the reason - along with some seepage problems - that I stopped using this wax. What is the diameter of the container you're using? Wider melt pool = greater scent throw. Also, 11% fragrance is quite a bit and I've heard that using too much scent can actually work against you. I usually use between 6% and 9% depending on the fragrance and add it around 175. If you can afford it, I'd suggest trying a couple different waxes to see what works best for you. All soy waxes are not created equal
  3. I am testing a few different waxes including the Ecosoya CB-135 and so far I'm liking how this is working except for the frosting. It seems to burn quite easily and it sets up really nice and flat on top with no dips or sink holes. Cold throw seems pretty good - not sure on hot throw yet because I'm burning a couple different jars side by side to compare. Anyway, has anyone had luck reducing the frosting with this wax? I'm using liquid dyes and poured into warm apothecary jars at 150 degrees. They set up perfectly but the next morning there was frost around the bottom of the jars. Any suggestions? :undecided Thanks.
  4. I am soooo lovin' this scent too very sexy! Just poured it tonight and can't wait to burn, this is definately my type of scent!
  5. I tried the Millenium blend once and it didn't look anything like this candle from Beanpod. It set up really funky - kind of crusty and shiney on top. Maybe I didn't pour at exactly the correct temperature or something but it was ugly enough that I didn't do any further testing with that wax.
  6. Ok, you got me curious... went and bought a Beanpod today They really are pretty candles for soy. There was virtually no frost on any of their jars and only a slight amount on the votives. There were a couple with the wicks off center but I'd say overall they do a very nice job. Top is perfectly smooth and flat and the wax seems very dense. Cold throw was pretty good on most of the scents they had at this store, I just lit it so we'll see how the hot throw is. They even sell "Soy Beads" that you're supposed to sprinkle on the top of the jar candles to create custom fragrances. It looks to me like they used a cotton wick in this one - it's pretty big, I'd guess maybe a 62C? The wick was 5/8" long (measured it) but the flame doesn't seem excessively large. The scent is Earthly Embrace, quite unique and pretty. Sure wish I could get 100% soy to look like this. Anyone tried the EL soy? Is it even close without the "tempacure" process?
  7. Those look great, thanks for posting pics! I ordered 10 lbs. to play with What temp did you pour at?
  8. I don't think either one is a dupe. If you are thinking of Serendipity from Candle Cocoon and Sweet Serendipity from The Scented Bean, they are two completely different scents. CC's is kind of a sweet, slightly spicy, unique and hard to describe scent and TSB's is more of a berry/grapefruit blend (love it!). Hope this helps.........
  9. Just by Nature has this. Haven't tried it for myself but it's way cheaper than Sweetcakes and all the other scents I've tried from them have been great.
  10. Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use? Joy wax Additives if any? UV inhibitor Preferred dyes? liquid Preferred wick (Not sizes)? CD, Zinc Pouring temp you recommend? 155-160 What you do to prevent frosting? not an issue What you do to prevent rough tops? tops are not rough but I get an occasional dip that I use heatgun on Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? warm jars
  11. I've tried a few of their scents in soy... Pink Sugar, Satsuma Guava and Full Moon (Vetyver) are terriffic. I just got some of their Pumpkin Souffle, Fresh Sugar Cane and Oatmeal, Milk & Honey but have not poured them yet. All smell great oob and I can use them for soap if they don't do well in wax. They are a little pricey but their oils are sooooo good . If you look at the scent descriptions you'll see that some of them list info about candles as well as soap.
  12. Wow, those are beautiful! Gonna have to get me some molds
  13. I've ordered from Daystar many times and have found their oils to be of superior quality and the customer service excellent. She has some very complex and unique scents (if you like Aveda products the Shampure dupe is awesome!) and shipping has always been fast. I give Daystar a thumbs up
  14. I'll second the Vanilla Hazelnut Mocha from Millcreek - yummy stuff:drool: !
  15. Yep, just like fine wine. I found some that I'd made a couple years ago when I first started making candles and had stuck away in a box. Burned them just for the heck of it and man were they strong! No funky or off smell at all. If they're in a dark place so they don't fade and in a controlled temp. I think they only get better.
  16. Thanks Michigan. Appreciate the help I just got some of the 40's as well as 47's and 50's so I'll give 'em a try.
  17. Well, the wax combo burns pretty much like plain soy - Joy is 98% soy but has a liitle paraffin and other stuff that keeps it from frosting, EZ soy is just plain soy - no additives, 1.4 oz. NG Black Magic fo in 16 oz. wax. The first couple burns got a complete melt pool in about 2 hours, probably a little fast by most standards, but there was no smoking and the flames were nice and steady. Melt pool of about 1/4" deep after about 3 hours, I was in heaven! What I don't understand is why, after it gets further down into the jar, the flames dwindle. All I can figure is that it has something to do with air flow and lack of oxygen. The tops of these jars do narrow which I'm sure inhibits air flow into the jar. Interestingly, there are no mushrooms whatsoever. If my wicks were too large then I'd expect mushrooms but there are none. I have not trimmed the wicks at all since the first lighting and they are still only about 1/4" even though 3/4" of wax has been consumed. I don't have much experience with RRD wicks but I'm pretty sure they're not "self trimming".
  18. Why can't I get double wicking down? I'm using 50/50 Joy - EZ soy in 4" apothecary jar, 2 RRD 55 with a heavier fragrance. 1st and 2nd burns are beautiful then when it starts to get down into the jar the flames get wimpy, I get an oval melt pool, and the wicks look like they're almost ready to go out. I've tried CD 14's and had the same thing happen with an oil that wasn't heavy. I've tried spacing them farther apart and closer together and have the same problem. Is it possible that 2 flames are sucking the oxygen out of the container once they get to a certain point in the jar and suffocating? Is it possible that too large of a wick could cause this? I know I'm reaching here but there are tons of people who successfully double wick these jars, why am I such a failure How far apart do you double wickers space your wicks and what type of wick have you found that works well for this? TIA for any help!
  19. I use their Green Tea in soy and it's also wonderful in CP soap.
  20. Satin Sheets Hillbilly Homebrew Monkey Farts Cucumber Cantaloupe Vanilla Pear Amish Friendship Bread Downy Clean Breeze Cabernet Sauvignon Mango Papaya
  21. The only one I've tried is the Shampure dupe from Daystar - it's awesome in soy!
  22. Tennessee Candle Supply - very strong!
  23. I've been wondering this too. Does the 444 seem to be the more popular choice and if so, is that why suppliers so far are carrying this instead of the 449? Also, what is the difference between the two? I see the melt point on the 449 is a little higher - are there just different percentages of the same waxes in them? Thanks!
  24. Do you guys think I should go with a wine smell I was thinking maybe complimenatry scents would be better. How about cheese?
