  1. Thanks everyone for all of your wonderful tips. I have just awakened and made a fresh pot of coffee. After the cobwebs clear I'm gonna do it! I purchased some Vitamin E to use as a preservative but have no idea how much to use. Does anyone have any ideas for a 4 pd. batch of soap? Thanks again everyone for your advice and well wishes, will let you know how it turns out. Kari
  2. Ok ladies, I've been contemplating making soap for over 6 months now, reading your posts and in awe of your pics. The lye thing really had me a bit apprehensive. I finally got up the nerve and ordered a kit from Soapmakers Garden and a mold from Misty Creek. Received my supplies last week. I just got home from work (nights) with a few days off, so I am going to bed now and when I awaken, I'm just gonna jump in and do it! Should I mix the lye outside or might I survive doing it in the kitchen! Wish me luck! Kari
  3. Chestnuts and Brown Sugar, Satsuma (smells great and throws well in soy)
  4. Can you smell the pineapple? Hawaiian Apple
  5. They sell 3 qualities, I purchased the premium blends at the higher cost and was'nt all that impressed. Some were ok but I'm happier with other suppliers.
  6. I could be wrong but dont grocery stores sell Red Devil drain opener?
  7. Susan, thats a good idea and I'm willing to bet it would work. Are those containers refillable, do they have a screw-off type top? Kari
  8. The Candle Cauldron has a scent blending chart and a color blending chart.
  9. Wellington has a Feng Shui line. I just looked through my stock to see if I had it to send you a sniffie but I have Wood, Fire and Water. Sorry, wish I could help. Try a sample from them. I found these to be light in soy, dont know how they'd be in other waxes. The Wood smelled a little like Sandlewood, the Fire like a mild cinnamon and the Water like a light rain. HTH. Kari
  10. Not a big fan of Wellington's either but I do like NG. I use soy and their fo's throw well for me. Love their Yuzu, Mango Papaya and their Kama Sutra line.
  11. I am curious about the Honeysuckle from MC.
  12. Geek, I have a Beanpod 25oz single-wicked candle (Adirondack Mountains), burns level in 4-5 hr increments. They have nice creamy tops prior to first burn but after that the tops have pit marks and frosting typical of soy. I have no tunneling whatsoever. My guess is the ones you're questioning had a too short initial burn. It is amazing a single-wicked 25 oz reaching a full mp but I can attest to it.
  13. I use the 8oz madison jars from The Jar Store and they are thick enough. I use GB 415 soy and have successfully wicked with RRD-47 and RRD-55 depending on the fo. For some reason didnt have much luck with the RRD-50. Also wicked well with the CD-10 and ECO-8. Wasnt crazy with the HTP's or the zincs. I also use additives and sometimes liquid dye. HTH Kari
  14. Thanks for the info Carebear. You have to be somewhat concerned over the long term effects of exposure to these chemicals over time. You've relieved some of the anxiety.
  15. Vanilla Patchouli from JS, smells awesome, great thrower in soy. Used RRD's and CD's without any problems.
  16. Previously ordered from MC and loved it, recently received one from AH and didnt like it at all. Will only get it from MC from now on.
  17. I have'nt tried passionate kisses or satin sheets from NG but their Kama Sutra Sexy as Sin is very nice. I'll have to try the others!
