  1. You're making me hungry, those look great!
  2. I cound an old rotary cutting mat with the grid on it and just center the jar on that to wick the jars. I also use the ez wicker and stickums but it doesn't fit all of my jars. Good tip though with the foil.
  3. Familiarize yourself with your wax, such as melting temperature, what temp to add the FO, pouring temperature. Waxes vary on temps, then check out these links: meltingwax howtomakevotives (the last one is on votive candles but you should be able to get the jist of it using molds and repours, etc.) If you don't want to make a full pound, weigh the amount of wax you want to use and multiply that weight by 6% to start. That will give you the amount of FO to add. Average is 1 oz per pound of wax so you could start with 1/2 oz of FO per 1/2 pound of wax. Good luck and have fun!
  4. I agree, show 'em! We could have an "ugliest soap" contest! I could be the judge and you could send a sample to me for "consideration" LOL:laugh2: I'm sure I could make a trophy for the winner!
  5. You all are so sweet, thanks. I burned a tealight in it last night and had no melting. I am burning one that I didn't make right now to see if it gets hotter. If I decide to make these, I will need a good hurricane wax, any suggestions close to Indiana?
  6. Thanks for the compliments. The funny thing is that I buy the ice cream with good intentions of actually eating it but it still goes bad, I think I just forget it's in there. (if only I could do that with chocolate) I debated on putting the glass in there or not but figured if it doesn't work, I'll remove it and fill the hole with wax. I thought about the heat gun but I think I need to let the walls get a bit thicker to use it. How thick should the walls be?
  7. Donna... Yea, you may be right, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Those don't look so bad, is there a market for Ugly soaps? I'd buy one to try, maybe others would too.
  8. Very nice gift basket, I would have loved to receive such a nice gift.
  9. I took the plunge and made a hurricane. Check it out here and let me know what you think.
  10. How many do you need? Where are you located? Maybe someone close to you may have some to spare. If not, check with various suppliers such as BCN.
  11. Here's my first try at a hurricane. The picture is of my beautiul girls that I printed black and white. I didn't have a mold so I emptied an ice cream container (down the drain, it was bad, LOL) and cleaned it out to use. I'm not sure about the wax I have so this is just for fun. I did embed a glass tealight holder in the bottom, don't know if that is good or not, we'll see. I can see me making alot more of these, they are really rewarding to make!!!! This is nowhere near perfect but I don't think it's that bad for my first try.
  12. Anyone try Bert's? I have that on my list to order.
  13. Congrats! Where did you find yours? I get mine from MC and it's great.
  14. So, I keep seeing all of you very talented soapers complaining about the ugly soap you make (which always looks cool to me), what do you do with it? Do you sell it or does the really ugly ones get scrapped? You can always send your scraps to us candle makers!!! LOL.
  15. do they at least list the scents? I can't imagine they would sell many.
  16. I agree, I like the blue background but maybe try something a little lighter color on the background if you do want to stick with a colored background. Are you using a light box?
  17. Good luck Vio, make sure to post pictures of your results.
  18. Thanks for your replies and advice. I kinda figured that it isn't the best wax because of the source. I just thought that it would be fun to try a hurricane and want to use what I have. I'll try the melt, take temp, cool, take temp method and see what happens. Even if it is a lower mp, I guess it will be ok to use it, it will harden and form a shell, I just may not be able to put a candle inside it. HMMMMM, maybe a pencil holder, or flowers. LOL!!!
  19. I use 444 and have great luck with the ECO wicks. I don't use any of your jars though, sorry. Good luck.
