  1. I really could use some suggestions of where to find these. I have lucked out and found them locally until now. I have tried to search online and on this board and am not having any luck. I appreciate any suggestions you can give me. Erin
  2. It is still smelling good, not as strong but I can still smell it. It's chilly here so I think that's why it's not as strong. I just checked the jar and still no mold, the gel is drying up or evaporating, you can see a line where it started and it has gone down about 1/4", surface is not hard either. I think I am liking this, just need to find a way around the alcohol thing. I haven't ordered any preservative yet, not sure I want to buy alot just to test one product. Keep me posted on your findings if you try it. I'm curious how others will do in other climates.
  3. Just an update, it has been in my van for 10 days, the smell isn't overpowering but I can definatly still smell it very good. There is no mold at all on the surface, it seems to be holding up well. I just need suggestions for what to replace the alcohol with, I looked at preservatives and that's overwhelming to try to figure out which would be the one to try, I've never used them. Any suggestions would be great.
  4. Thank you Vicky, I was thinking today about alcohol as an ingredient and air fresheners came to mind. I know that people use alcohol in some of those and also the fuel for the effusion lamps which is why I bought the alcohol (only for personal use.) What ammount of preservative is normal to use instead of the alcohol?
  5. So what could I try instead of the alcohol to prevent mold?
  6. Here is the recipe I used. I have had it in my van for 5 days now and wow, it is doing great as far as scent and still no mold. I made 2 other scents to give to friends to try and did have a little separation of oil in those but not in my first one. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these work, so far they are definatly stronger than the ornies. 1 packet of unflavored Knox Gelatin 3/4 cup water 1/4 cup vodka of grain alcohol (I used 90% rubbing alcohol) 1- 2 TBSP. fragrance oil Food coloring as desired. Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water. Allow to cool to room temperature then add the vodka, coloring and scent. Pour into decorative jar (I use 8 ounce canning jar) with tight fitting lid, and refrigerate till set. If these work I will put them in tins I think. Mine is in a glass jar and the others I made are in the small plastic oval containers from BCN.
  7. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Curiousity got the best of me so used a recipe that called for added alcohol (I thought that recipe may prevent mold), it's been in my van for 2 days now and it's knock your socks off strong with no mold. Hopefully it will work, I am comparing it with a store bought one in my DH's car. Scentgifts, I make the ornies already but want to find something else that is unique and that will hold scent longer than the ornies. Any other input would be great..........
  8. I am talking about the solid gel ones that you use knox gelatin to make, not the smelly jellies. Does anyone have luck making these? If so, which recipe do you use and how long do they last? Do you need to use any type of preservative in them to keep the nastys out? Thanks for any help you can offer. Erin
  9. Thanks for all of your tips. Can't wait to try to find the fall colors.
  10. What do you use to color the smelly jellies. I have used both soap based color and candle color (just a wee bit). Either way I do it, the jelly gets discolored after a while because of the FO. Turns darker. I do use distilled water to make them. Any suggestions?
  11. Thanks for sharing. This will look much better than what I am doing right now. I also like the tip about the holes on the outside so they can smell it. Thanks again
  12. I don't know about the hole punch, but am curious what you found for your "lid" material.
  13. Try different pour temperatures too. That may help your tops look better. There is no one perfect technique or "rule" for soy wax. You just have to find what works for you and your climate. Good luck, I hope you like working with the soy. My advice about the tops, find a temp that works and embrace some "irregularities" as character of soy, after all, it is natural.
  14. I got one too and after looking at the site, I came here to see what you all had to say about it. Thanks for the comments! I thought it sounded too good to be true too!
  15. Absolutly beautiful. I wish I had the guts to try something like that.
  16. All I can say is WOW! Very nice candles and I'm jealous because we don't have beautiful scenery around here like that for photo's.
  17. I have used the soap dyes on occasion, they do color the beads. You do have to use alot of dye but you get nice pastel colors. I tried it because I had someone order lilac ornie and you can't get light purple with the colors I had so I thought what the @#%@. Very pretty. I do like the more vibrant colors of the candle dyes though.
  18. Sounds like a pain. Where can you find the shrink wrap "tubes" used for these?
  19. How do you package your votives? I am clueless on this one. Pictures would be great to give me some ideas. Thanks for your input.
  20. Keep us posted on how this works out, I am using MC's and it is great but I am trying to get away from them. I love some of Bert's oils though.
  21. Try alcohol for your hair, I had a friend call me asking how to get sharpie out of her daughters hair (red & green), root to end that her friend colored in. I told her to try the alcohol and it worked great!!! Worth a try for candle dye (although I am not willing to try it out for you, LOL) As for your hands, I just use a little melted wax and it works like a charm, I usually have a small amount left after pouring and that is what I use. Whatever you try, I hope it works for you!
  22. Yuck, you actually have to taste it?
