  1. Oh no a bear to wick? Probably like clove that we had a time with.I guess I will get my husband to take it out to the shed and burn it.Kinda a strong hard to handle scent like clove is.Not 2 of my favorite scents. Chestnuts and Brown Sugar was another one that was a bear to wick. LynnS
  2. moonshine Thank You I am getting ready to go to a meeting tonight and need to get some paperwork done but will email you later tonight or tomorrow. I got my Pachouli from the Candlemakers Store. They are close to me. LynnS
  3. You've only posted 6 times and started the Board 4 months ago.I assume you have been making candles for years to get such a large chain to carry your candles all over the US. Wishing you luck and if you get this big plan on hiring lots of help. Yes as someone said It is 100% natural if you add fragrances. I will check out your site and see your candles.I am sure they are nice but there are candlemakers who make both pariffin and soy. They want to please both customers. LynnS
  4. Anyone know if their is a dupe for Yankee Patchouli. My customer said mine doesn't smell like Yankee and she is re-selling my candles and her customers like Yankee. If there is such as thing where can it be purchased???? That is if it can be brought?????? She mentioned my patchouli tarts smell like the real thing but not the candles. She is smelling them outright and not burning them.I am sure it can be a difference.I use palm wax for tarts and 444 soy wax for the candles. Thank You LynnS
  5. I looked today for the Coconut Oil.None or our Wal Mart doesn'r carry it.I found LuAnn's Safflower oil. I think that was what it was. I wonder if a health food store would carry Coconut Oil.Would anyone know??? I might try a couple other grocery chains but had no luck at Walk Mart. Bummer LynnS
  6. This lady is in another state.Ohio to PA. If my husband didn't work 7 days a week could be a possibity but never checked the mileage. I would like it that way.Deliver 1/2 way for most of the fundraisers. Would save the group some money.Just gas and better than shipping costs today. I buy most of my supplies in Ohio but some fragrances online.Shipping seemed like a day or 2 longer the last few months. LynnS
  7. The candles have hardened when he brings them in.Frosting.It isn't the best temps out there.he has a heater on them to hopefully keep the frosting from happening but always somewhere on the candle there is some. We changed wax.444.He read on it that no frosting using this wax.I told him that is hard to believe. We got it and a candle today had frosted. It is colder here in Ohio now. Some warm temps and back to cold. He is now going to use the coconut oil like someone mentioned. He gave up on all other options. What we really need is to re-do our building with alot of insulation.I also know heat can frost.I've been to shows and see frosting starting in those hot temps at Sept shows. I wantitgreen. The only thing we changed over a year ago is moving from the basement to the shed out back. I was dx wth breast cancer and shouldn't be around the making of candles.I've even burn them less since. The scent when making the candles got to me.I used to have breathing problems.Got better then now the problem is back.I don't want to be around the chemicals when making them. Not healthy IMO.Some use ventilation and some don't.In the shed it is cool and breezy but when it was in the basement the scent came up through the registers. My husband wants to continue but I am discouraged because it is hard on both of us with the frustration. We sure have wasted alot of scent, wax and if he uses the same jar he must clean it. Alot of heartache and stress I don't need. LynnS
  8. I get all the money up front then they get theirs. If I get $5 for the candle and they get $5 I get all up front like that or they take their share. I know checks are made out to the person or group dong the fundraiser then they write me a check.I cash it,do he order then mail it. What is a good approx time to have one done.Does it depend on the order? How big or how small? Then you set a time span.I heard some groups have some large fundraisers and it is done maybe in 2 parts. As the orders come the organizer starts mailing the money so not alot on the candlemaker at once.Is that right???? LynnS I make all order forms and also tally sheets. I think I will tell the group to add a little per candle to defray shipping.I still find the flat rate boxes are best.Shipping candles is expensive with the weight. When you get the regular postal boxes have them weighed and measured it gets expensive. What are your thoughts. I've only done a few wholesales and use flat rate. LynnS
  9. Still have more questions.I know I provide the order forms, tally sheet etc. They take the orders. We(me and organization) set a time span on how long it lasts (usually 3 weeks) and the checks are supposed to be collected/made out to the group.Do we get all or part payment to start the order??? And anything else you can offer to help me with this. This is out of state.I have a couple wholesale orders out of state and no problem but this will be my first fundraiser if I get it.Not sure what organization yet.I am working with a individual who wants to do if for a cause or else someone approached her to do one???? Any other good pointers???? LynnS
  10. Been almost 4 years since I was asked about a fundraiser. It never went through. Now someone eles wants to do a fundraiser.I know they pay shipping and I need at least double the cost of the candle. If I ask $4.00 wholesale the candles should sell for $8.00 but they must think of shipping. If someone got 5 candles then they take shipping out of the $4.00 they made or just add a few dollars more to ship the candles. Keep ever order seperate. Will be hard but have to. Any ideas about fundraising and how to work with the shipping. Thank You LynnS
  11. I ordered wax and some lids for flower pot votives.A few other things too.Fast.Of course I was behind in a wholesale order so it seemed longer than it really took. From getting the invoice, paying, shipping and receiving it was probably 4-5 days with 2 days being shipping time. Good service. LynnS
  12. I never thought about this.I just paid my insurance for the year.I was a little late. That's is interesting. What if the house burns down after you quit selling and don't get insurance. Noodle, Receipt not likely but maybe your business name on the candle label. Then you still would wonder if it was really yours???? One thing I preach to my customers(think I will put this on my site now) is DON'T put a candle on a warmer UNLESS you take the warning label off.I had a customer tell me I told her to late but luckily she caught it in time.Thankfully it wasn't my candle. LynnS
  13. I also have a question with the glue gun wicking??? I use wicker stickars and they WORK.The glue gun when we first started didn't work.Wicks came loose.I found that before I started putting our candles on the market, Thankfully!!! I agree with another. Why the pretty packaging??? She prob doesn't do shows etc but the first thing people want to see are the candle and to smell them.If she did shows I have to assume she doesn't package. It is attractive but a waste IMO.Just jacks the price up.WOW $20.00.None would sell in Ohio.At least not this area. We get customers from parts of Ohio and they feel taken if they pay $8.00 for a 8 ounce candle JJ. Other than that she has a great production system going.A big operation so it must be working. LynnS
  14. TammyGCC. I know the characteristic of soy is frosting. I see you cover that on your site I assume.I could do that.I want them to be perfect when they arrive but after that I don't care.If they would email me with a problem I tell them that's what soy does. I was going to get coconut oil but husband changed wax. IF I heard right he said the 444 has coconut oil in it.I will have to ask him when he gets home but seems that's what he said. Candles did do better as far as frosting since he changed wax LynnS
  15. We tried both ways.My husband leaves them in the shed till they just harden. Then brings them in. They seem OK at first then we might look a few hours later or next morning and frosting. He also tried bringing them in before they harden(only because I insisted) .Neither worked.I just think its the temp out there. Not a even keel temp.We use small heaters and he puts the heater close to the candles.Wants to make sure they are warm in the colder shed. The shed also has no insulation.Just wood walls. Glad wamer temps are here. This has been total chaos and a loss. Strange but in Feb I had a order for 132 candles. No frosting.Same place making them.Ran out of my last bit of 402 from one company but brought 402 from another. Then problems.I see no reason for that.Same wax but a diffferent company. The first company went out of business. Husband now changed to 444.He read up on it. It is better but some seperation. Still think that is the cold. We're getting ready to supply a art center.I think this will work since temps are going up now.And we changed wax.I must say our colors are very very pretty. I just hated to see that doggone frosting.I've had a few customers tell me that's OK soy candles frost. This will be when I'm at a craft show in the summer and the heat can cause frosting while they're displayed. I was just livid having a wholesale order we should have out in a week and took 2 weeks. And alot of wasted waxscent. wicks etc.We were ready to QUIT. LynnS
  16. All of my fo's are sellers.I have alot.More than most. Now I can't let them go.Raves on all of them.I would like to add a few(something different) but overwhelming now.All scents I have everyone likes.I can't remember one no one didn't like. I might add a few but taking off some might be bad if customer is expecting it to be there.I will order a certain scent request for someone but so far no one has asked. They seem satisfied. LynnS
  17. moonshine,I will get a 5 lb bag of pillar/votive I found what I want but the company is farther than KY.Shipping would have to be cheaper. laurenscandlebakery, Yes that's what I want.No clean up or remelting to get the tart out of the burner.Costs more but works great. No clean-up Thank You Everyone.
  18. Sometimes the order does not finish with payment on my website.I wonder what causes this?It says reached screen but no payment received.I go to my pay pal and no payment. One lady just put in her 3rd order that way.Dont know why she keeps ordering and it doesn't go through with payment. The first time I didn't realize and sent it.I let it go.The next time I waited a time and emailed her asked if she wanted the order.Payment didn't go through. No response. Now I have another order from her and payment didn't go through. Not all my customers but have had a few say a problem.Wholesalers I automatically tell them to email me the order. What do some of you think?? My shopping cart problem or something else. My husband thinks that the cc didn't go through???? Thank You LynnS
  19. In the middle of all this husband went online and decided to change waxes after years using 402. We were livid with frosting problem. Caused so much chaos.Esp since the first time having problems when we started years ago.He decided after his research the 444 will be best.It also says it puts out a good throw.IMO the 402 was a good throw but we can't take all the problems with frosting.Summer months it will frost but not as bad as winter.I've had a teeny bit of frosting doing show in the hot weather but nothing as bad as I had with this last order in the winter. Lynn S
  20. No because I've never heard of this.Just checked more of the candles. It is surprising because usually the darker colors are the ones but the lighter colors too. I will check Wal Mart.My husband and I can ship 15 today but that's all.I checked and they looked OKHe worked 12 hours and will be home at 3 and will crash. He's going to be upset. As they dried they looked great. Then I wake up this am and not good.We have the prettiest colors but not with this doggone frosting. Thank You for giving me one idea. LynnS
  21. We've been in the candlemaking business for over 7 years.Have a couple wholesales and people love the coloring.Never any frosting but I know when they get to the customer depending on the temp in the stores they can frost.Problem is we've done these candles over 2 times and looks like we need to again.Frosting.My husband makes them in our shed with heat and brings them in the house.Did wait till they settled but doesn't wait now.Checked them a few minutes ago and they are frosted. We use 402 soy and have since we started.Husband went online and said 402 can have issues with frosting so he mixed 416 and 402.He read where mixing those 2 ihelps the frosting.IT DIDN'T.I feel so sorry for my husband doing these over again. He heated the jars and it helped for a short time then again the frosting. We need to get this wholesale order out and having this problem for the very first time. I'm trying to undersrand soy frosts and that is the way it is but never had this problem. At least my husband made them they looked great. We got compliments on the color. If we Shipp after that it could be where they display them. Any answers. This is enough to make us quit.I don't know what to tell the new wholesaler. Our orders are out within a week but now this.My poor husband works 7 days a week and many 12 hours so this can't continue.I'm not able to work with the actual making of candles since dx with Breast cancer 2 1/2 years ago. HELP!!!! Thank You LynnS
  22. I sent another order of tarts to this lady and it took 3 days.More like it but I still can't figure why places farther get their orders in 2 days.I am getting worried when so many PO's close. Some already have. I live just over 1 mile from the one I use and so easy to go there. If it closes IF the Postmaster retires I will have to drive 15 miles.A bummer. LynnS
  23. My main ones are The Candlemakers Store,The Candle Source, BCN and Nature's Garden. Love all their fragrance oils and now buying wax from The Candlemakers Store and BCN. LynnS
  24. I liked AWE Sunflower but they are out of business. You can find that scent at other companies. LynnS
  25. Well finally it got to her.Would you believe 11 days.I sent it on Saturday and it arrived over a week later on a Tues. Now somewhere it was lost. Last week mailed something to MA and it arrived in 2 days. The PA package 11 days.Same part of the country. I live in Ohio not Calif or some other state that would be thousand miles away. Looks like some of you are experiencing the same problem.Just wait till the PO's close. One lady from a small town in Ohio told me she only gets mail 2 times a week now.YIKES!!!! What are we wholesalers going to do with service like this????? LynnS
