  1. I love them all, great colors for patchouli! Bruce
  2. I think they will bomb bigtime. One of my customers today asked me if I had tried them yet, they said scent throw was good within 5 feet, after that there was no smell at all. He was really mad about it. Bruce
  3. OH those are..... gord-geous Bruce
  4. I must have missed these the first time around! Them are some great looking candles girl! Some of the best I have ever seen for sure. Bruce
  5. I do the same thing all the time Phil, no problem. The cheese cutter is great to use, the wire is so thin it displaces very little wax. Bruce
  6. OH, just got a idea from the half and half candles! How about cut them with the ying yang symbol one half black, one white? Hummm, going to think about this while I'm at the show, that might be a winner. I need to find one of my cookie cutters that are "s" shaped that I can adjust just a little and I might be in business. Bruce
  7. Thanks everyone! Its been 4 years since I have made any of the pie candles, I just don't ever seem to have the time, but decided to whip some out Monday. I have made blueberry, cherry and pumpkin also, but only did the apple for now. These are one size up from the last ones I made so I need to adjust the price on them up a little. I had sold them for $6.50 before. The half and half candles are just 2 candles cooled and cut out of their jars, cut in half and the halves switched, heated to go solid again. Heat gun, cheese cutter and just make sure the candles you start out with are level and the same amount of wax. Will not work on all jars, just jars that taper like these do. The amount of cuts you do is only limited to the amount of PIA you want to deal with. I think you could use 4 flavors (colors) and be OK with it. The mask deal, no I didn't dip my head in wax. I was just playing with a piece of wax that I cut off a piece of glass dipped into the wax and stuck it on my face. It will go back in the black wax soon. Thats my "Garf" picture of the batch. Just an experiment. Got to get ready for a show now, will check in Sunday night when we get back. Bruce
  8. Last picture, and PLEASE don't try this at home! This is what happens if you dip your face in hot wax!!! Remember, I am a professional stunt waxer! I have years of practice of doing stupid things with hot wax! I am now bald and eyebrow less, but have great skin. Bruce
  9. My half and half candle, its endless love and dogwood. Just testing this to see if it could be done just incase I want to make the coffee and donut candles in the future. They came out maybe a little better then I thought they would. Sorry my flash is on the fritz, so its out of focus, but you get the idea.
  10. Apple pies... no, not the molded kind, crust, top and fruit pieces are all hand shaped.
  11. Just remember the dyes change from batch to batch from all companies. Powder and block probably more than liquid. I order my powder dyes from Pourette and I still have some of the powder that I used a few decades ago. I can say that both color and grind can change. The Bright Green is very chunky where the green I had before was very much like powder and not even close to the the color I had before. I remember another good company that sold dye, "pylam" if I remember right and it was very good stuff, but they had too many to pick from. Have fun, Bruce
  12. KY's fresh glazed donuts is really great. Im going to try to make a coffee and donut jar candle, split down the middle, coffee (brown) on one side of the wick and donut (cream) on the other side of the wick. I have been thinking about this for about a month now, I think it would make a great police gag gift. I made a jar candle with 2 halves last week and it dont look half bad, I need to get a picture of it and post it later. It was scented endless love (green) and dogwood (pink). Bruce
  13. Make it?? If your a chemist you "might" be able to make it. The mens version is not as complex as the womens, but there are still many many smells in this one and its not something you just "make". There are some great dupes out there, but some of them are not cheap, but cheaper then trying to make it yourself for sure. Bruce
  14. I tell them any jar candle can tunnel if you burn them for a short amount of time. I have never had any returned or had anyone say they had a problem, so I guess I have smart customers! I know pillars have a memory, but don't remember hearing anything about jar candles since the jars heat up more as the wax and flame gets lower and the heat gets stuck more in the jar which will help melt down the sides. Bruce Alan talked about the same thing on the old board, might check there also?
  15. Update: my order will be here by fedex sometime friday. Thats only 10 days after I put in my order so the orders are going faster than they were this spring I guess. All the other companies I ordered from on the same day I got last friday. I hope I get some good smelling samples, some of the sample prices are in line with sweetcakes stuff. ACK! Bruce
  16. Hey, if you can call a scent Cool Water "type" can you call a tart : tart type" LOL Hummmm Tart "type"
  17. We slept late (11am) but did poured 450 half pint jars between 1pm and 6pm. Feed the dog.... well, I opened the frig door and about 4 lbs of left over roast fell right on the floor. The dog ate VERY well tonight and probably will for a few more days. (small dog) LOL I'm eating birthday cake and ice cream from my birthday a few days ago... yummm. I need to post a pic of the apple pies I made yesterday, gona do that later.. maybe if I get the camera to work. Picked up kids from football, school and babysitters. Not much time for anything else tonight, just play army on the computer and read here for a little while. Its been a easy day for us..... doing labels Friday, thats the hard part. Bruce
  18. I use zinc and can get by with single wicking the 4 inch apoth jars. What size zinc are you using? I wouldnt worry about a full melt pool in the first few burns anyway, it all comes around when you get half way down the jar. I am ok with a melt pool that takes 7 or 8 hours to get to the edge since that slow of a burn could help prevent the jar from breaking when you get to the last of the wax. I can get buy with either a 51 or a 60z but like the 51 better because of the lower flame and less heat in the jar. Bruce So, how does that bad boy cougar work?
  19. Nuttin wrong with it that I can see. Looks really great with that font and color on the index page. You did great there girl! Bruce
  20. Just must have caught me in the wrong mood yesterday, not trying to be harsh.. ok maybe I am. Maybe tough love. It seems like I am getting that way more and more with all the new people on the board asking the same questions over and over again. You will get all the fluffy answers from plenty of people on here, I will let you know the real deal of what its like to be a full time successful candle maker. If you make candes and have a business you really should know about not using food coloring or crayons to make candles with and the reasons why. Wait 5 or 10 years and look at the products you started with and you will laugh. I did, except now my first candles I retailed are almost 30 years old. I might be harsh, but im honest and sometimes you have to throw that in the mix with all the other fluffy talk that goes on here. Bruce
  21. I give them the same terms that "I" get from Peaks, NG, and all the other companies I buy from. My wholesale account has picked up over 3500.00 worth of product from 2 orders in the past 2 weeks. I cant buy materials if I dont have the cash in hand. Remember what ever you do, you dont want to be stuck with something that you wish you would not have started. You can alway extend your terms as you get bigger but its hard to go the other way and go from 30 days to cash on delivery. Pick something you can live with. Most stores can pay you on delivery, its just most of them dont want to if they dont have to. Bruce
  22. Do you even make soaps, candles or bath and body products yet? It was just a week or 2 ago that you were asking about using food coloring in candles and if you should do CP, MP, or HP soaps? Kinda going about it backwards if you ask me. You cant have a business without a product, and you cant have a product without many months of testing (if not years). I sure wouldnt worry about a name yet if I were you. You have plenty of time to think about it. Bruce
  23. A white, faded, glow would look nice around the name. I like bold colors. Bruce
  24. Ok, who's gonna tell him the bad news about the glow in the dark (pigments I would guess) stuff that he bought.... Bruce
  25. You know, I dont make votives to sell, so I tested 4 or 5 kinds of wax that I had laying around and I think the one that won the prize was an old Missys wax (pillar blend) that had to be 2 or 3 years old. Even Missys had discontinued it before they went out of business or maybe changed the name of it anyway. I might have posted about the wax on the old board...? I do know that most of the waxes I used in the test did a fair job on the scent throw, but I thought this one was the best. Looks like I'm not much help, but I tried. Bruce
