  1. I'm not sure about this.... i've wondered too. Does polypro feel different to you all. Cause these feel like regular zip lock bags. TIA
  2. I am definitely not a bakery person. I have to hold my nose when I make Blueberry Cobbler. Just got NG's though and it smells more tolerable OOB. I love florals, fruits, woodsy, etc. Hate vanilla, HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT. It is hard to be a salesperson at a show when someone comes up and asks me for just plain vanilla. I have to tell myself, don't roll your eyes :rolleyes2, this person just has not smelled all the great other scents out there. PS I do carry vanilla BTW but it is at gunpoint that I do so.
  3. Only downfall I see to that is all of those hats you must have to buy..... Better take up knitting!!! LOL or haircutting!!
  4. I was downstairs pouring and noticed my pour pots leaving a ring on my tiles. After looking at it and cleaning it out and holding it up to the light, I noticed small pitting and holes at the bottom. I asked BF what would cause that and he said acid...... like stearic acid!!! Duh!! Didn't know that! Thought Aluminum was indestructable like krypton or something. The worst damage must have occured when I was setting the pot on very low directly on the burner to melt the acid and vybar before adding wax. Now I just mix wax, stearic and vybar in the big wax melter (stainless steel) and don't put stearic directly in the pot. Diluted like that, I don't think it's a problem. BTW, BF fixed the holes by putting a little expoxy on the outside of the pot. Just an FYI for everyone.
  5. I make mine a reddish brown. I have gotten a little creative, making red with a brown drizzle also. I too have too many browns!!
  6. News to me too!!! Sheesh what do these families of ours expect!!:rolleyes2
  7. I just wanted to share a story with you all. A year ago, I had a table set up at a flea market just to gauge interest and hopefully make a few sales. I always keep my goal very low (table rent). Well, I made it (whew). But was pretty dissapointed in sales in general that day. Not to mention at the time I was unemployed. That evening, my daughter and I went to a local festival for fun & to watch the band. It was after dark and I needed to use the restroom. As I was walking to the school I noticed a deposit bag. Most of the craft vendors had left already for the evening. I looked inside to see which vendor it might have been, and all they used were generic receipts.... no company name. OH yeah, lots and lots of money in there also. I have to say, I was kicking myself all the way to the bathroom and back out to find a police officer to give it to. I had a really crappy day, with crappy sales and here is a big ole bag of money...... LOL But I always put myself in someone else's position and I considered if I had had a really good day with sales and then lost that money, I would just feel ill. Just as ill as if I had kept it. Amazing how the human body/mind works, huh??? Just a PS though...... if you are at a show and drop your bag of money, be sure you have something inside like a business card or something.
  8. Can't help with the scent, but your name has me thinking you own one of these beeeeeeeautiful dogs? Am I right?
  9. I'd be suspicious if they were from Acme.... Did Wil E. Coyote ever get anything to work right???? Beware!!
  10. 100% soy for me. Sorry, I always forget to add that!!
  11. LOL yes I do have a male lump on the couch. He's actually been very supportive, but for some reason won't help me with the wax/jars and he has a continually stuffed up nose!!! What good is that to a candlemaker???? This is another trick he has..... I lug the 40 lb. bag of dog food from the store shelf, into the cart, out into the trunk and all the way home. When I get home he takes it in and says (to the dogs) "Look what daddy bought you".
  12. They have instructions on use and you can use this with skin-safe scent. HTH
  13. I have to lug down myself. Anyone else stand at the top and wonder if the box would hold if you just rolled it down?
  14. Looking for a dupe of cranberry compote from Home Interiors. This is one of my very best friend's favorite candle (before I introduced her to Amish Harvest). But I would like to suprise her if anyone has found a dupe. I've tried Cranberry, Cranberry Spice and different combinations of the two. Any help? TIA:D
  15. Love those soap saver loofahs. I hate using bar soap, so I put the bar inside the loofah/mesh bag & works well for me. Consider the bath mitts, slippers, etc. Jewely sounds great also. What I think you would like your customers to think is "this is the perfect place to buy a gift". Market towards "last minute gift baskets" and perfect gift for someone who has everything. No matter what, we still have to get clean every day, and ppl run out of stuff. I know its a big investment, but I think cotton robes would be great too. Keep investigating.... Good luck!!
  16. I make my own. So for a penny, i don't have to worry about lengths. The spool has lasted me forever. BCN & Lonestar was the supplier. Plus I can crimp and cut while I'm watching tv.
  17. I'm thinking of making layered container candles and wondering if you all would share your ideas. I'm thinking it might help sales for those picky people who can't decide on just one scent. I'm thinking of a bakery, fruit (all berries, or all citrus), a floral, and maybe a fresh type (rain, fresh linen, ??) What are your ideas? Also in regards to coloring, I was also thinking the top layer would be the lightest color, 2nd layer a little darker, and by the time the burn gets to the bottom darkest layer, the customers will understand that it will look like crap (LOL) Bakery would probably be all in shades of brown, berries in shades of purple, but floral and citrus are tough ones. Any ideas? TIA!! You guys are always really helpful.
  18. Hi all!! I just got an order from Peak and they sent me the new Hollyberry and Ivy as a free sample. Anyone try this? I've smelled it OOB, my BF & daughter all think it smells like the same thing.... used cat litterbox. Did I get a bad batch, or is it really icky? Im a little hesitant to put in wax for fear that all the neighborhood cats might think this is the place to go!! LOL TIA
  19. I have not tried others, because I didn't need to. Awesome hot/cold throw in soy. This is a rich chocolate with coconut. Great scent, has made my customers hungry!! This was one of those free samples I got when I first started. Amazing how some of those free samples have become bestsellers!!
  20. I vote for Nature's Garden Peak The Candlemakers Store Alabaster BCN I have a few I must have from one supplier, some fo's i can get at a few diff suppliers, and of course, a few I'm still looking for the perfect supplier. Best advice is to search on here and try to pick a few suppliers, order samples and go from there. Good Luck!
  21. Best ones so far are: Strawberry Rhubarb Country Clothesline Black Cherry Bomb Mrs. Claus Cookies Cuc. Melon Cedar Wood Banana Kiwi Key Lime Pie Love their FO's!!! PS A few that didn't make the grade - Hyacinth, Lilac
  22. I have been using liquid dyes, and I've noticed that the smell of them is noticeable. I bought them at Peak. I purchased some powdered dye which I am not happy with. The specks of color are not all dissolving, so I have to stir stir stir and then some more. And I purchased some other dye in a block which I use a microplane to "grate". Harder to measure. Bottom line is, I'd like to use a liquid dye that comes with a dropper, that doesn't smell. TIA for your help!!
  23. get yourself a great boyfriend who will buy you a wax melter for Christmas. I just love him. .... he's also good for building workspace, table, cabinets, airbrushed my tshirts, and aprons, bought me an EZ up, website for my birthday, AND bought my first candle from my website. What a guy!! PS for those of you who are married, you can substitute husband for boyfriend, unless you really want to add a BF LOL:D Seriously, the presto/turkey sounds like a smaller version of my melter. A spigot is essential. Mine in on the counter, spigot over the stool that has my scale and is the perfect height to pour into the pitcher that sits on the scale. Good luck!!
  24. Just wanted to add my two cents... NG's scents are great and affordable. The shipping is pretty good being that they are an hour away or so.... however, I was happy to learn that they will be moving to about 20 minutes away. Yeah!!! Anyhow, a few scents I prefer from other suppliers: Hyacinth Lilac Pine Grapefruit Caramel Apple German Chocolate Cake NG doesn't have some of the scents I carry, and I need to order elsewhere. NG has the best Cucumber Melon, Fresh Linen, Cedar, Key Lime, Black Cherry Bomb, Sugar Cookie, Melon Mist, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.
  25. You better hope USPS doesn't read this post!! Tsk Tsk Tsk :rolleyes2 Some cheap items i've used.... The wire racks in the closet dept at wallyworld or kmart. I put them under the table cloth, and set a small display on it. Also, I have stolen my cake plate pedestal thingy for a small display. One show I did, I stole my sister in law's too. A large cloth napkin covered those in contrasting colors to the tablecloth I was using. Just a few small height risers to help the customers find different products. As the scents sold, I would "showcase" other scents. Good luck with your show!!
