best way to test is what they do when u rip them, poly pro will break jagged and poly eth will stretch and be softer edged. That's the way I test the unknown without a bunch of unreturned emails. Think cello vs saran wrap

If you take enough scents, people will be too busy to listen to you, cause all they'll do is sniff... It doesn't hurt to have a game, I've done a sniff & guess kind of game with scents that should be simple, but people just can't get them. It's not too hard to do minimal speaking. The customers are there to sniff, not listen to stuff from us. Good luck, get one under your belt, you may find it easier than you think.

Basically when you set up the drop down list, you can only put in 10 to create the button. You then need to go in HTML to put in your additional selections. Once you get the button set up, if you know how to edit in HTML, it's easy. Setting up the button basically gets you a number for the product. Once you set up for one product, you can create a button in paypal for every product, but you really only need that number. In your "My Saved Buttons" you will see the number to the right of the name of the product. Once you're done creating your button in HTML with all of your scents, you can just copy and paste for other products, go in and change that number to the appropriate product number and you're done.

Yes, in order to use an image, it needs to be stored on a website. All images on your website need to be stored there, not accessed off of your computer. I can't imagine building a website without being able to look at it as you go. Quirky little things happen and you need to be able to see that. I guess if you build it, then all you would hopefully have to do is tweak it a little. View cart should not have a price attached to it at all....???

That's where you put the image of the button you have created. If you don't have one created, search "create custom buttons in paypal". There are some cool ones out there (techdevils.com for instance). Probably a heck of a lot more.

Nothing stops you from researching prices and costs while you're doing your testing. It's always good to get a spreadsheet going and keep updating when you find something that doesn't work. It also lets you know what kind of quantities you'll have to buy in to eventually make a profit. If you're getting into a business it's always smart to research what it's going to cost you to get it going, and keep it going and ideas on how you can expand. I've had a spreadsheet showing costs/profit/wholesale - retail from day one. It is absolutely the first thing I did, before I ever touched any wax & FO. It was my jumping off point to see if it could be done. That same spreadsheet I use to keep track of cost per candle and it helps me figure when to raise prices based on price increases of supplies. It also let me know that I couldn't have too many super-duper expensive FO's and that I needed to stick with glass/wax within driving distance. I believe it is very important to find out what the market in your area will support if your plan is to make this a business. To find out that votives in your area don't sell for crap will help you target another product. So, finding out what things sell for and doing other sales related research is important, and you certainly should be doing it now. Just make sure you include some money in your budget for testing. By the way, this board bashes newbs who don't use the search feature... use it often and make it your friend. LOL

Infared is what you're referring to. When I got mine i calibrated it, then just to see, did it with my ones I was using (candy type). The old ones were off off off!!! I realized I had been doing everything off for awhile. Pouring too hot, adding FO too hot, getting my wax too hot etc. But they weren't off consistently. Like they were 10 deg off at boiling, but only 5 deg at 150.

If you double boiler it, it will melt the outside in, which means it will allow you 1/4 inch or so of play. If you're more off than that, you'll have to keep melting.

As far as the forms go, I've never heard of a company charging for the brochure. I have had a few now where the organization has a deposit fee for my samples. Maybe you could raise your prices a tad to account for that. And, as far as packaging for each individual order. That's the organization's problem not mine. I hand them cases, they distribute the candles to the kids/parents. If they break them, I offer to replace at the same price. Once I've delivered in good shape, my liability is done.

Can I ask you what you are testing for? For wickless, it would be scent throw.... correct? So basically the wax is the same, all you are testing would be the scent. If it does what you want. No need to test larger sizes if you are happy with the throw from the 2 oz.

You know I hear so many people talking about inkjet and wonder why they don't switch to a laser. The costs of ink, and general cheapness of the inkjet printers is astounding. The most important thing to consider is the cost of toner and the cost of replacing the drum. Running out of ink is one thing, but when print quality goes, you have to replace the drum. So check out your options, but check out the availability of generic types of toner, costs of toner, and drums. You will love it, and even though it is a hassle getting your labels all lined up again, it'll improve the look of your labels too.

Eyeball here too, however I do stick it on one edge of the label first and kind of roll it on and if it doesn't look like it's going to be straight, I can pull it off and start over. My labels don't stick till I smooth them on. Maybe you're eyeball challenged :rolleyes2

I'm sure you all know this but those priority self-seal boxes sometimes sit in places protected from moisture, but not from temperature fluctuations. As a result, the glue doesn't hold well. Always tape!

The question should be what is the least amount of FO you can put in a candle and still get a great smelling candle, that burns great. More FO does not necessarily mean a better or stronger candle. I have migrated to the thought that if it doesn't throw at 1 oz pp or less, I don't keep it.

I was recently contacted by a person who wanted to purchase candles from me to give to her customers and she wanted to know how many she needed to get a discount. As far as I know she hasn't purchased from me, however she could have at one of the stores I'm in. What are your policies? A dollar amount? or a number? I'm not talking about wholesale here. At shows I do a two-fer or three-fer deal. I emailed this person with that info, but I think she was looking for more???? She hasn't emailed me back, however she's really not the reason. I need to have a policy for this. I have alot of policies down firm, but not discounts. What are your ideas?

Sounds like fundraisers sure are doing well this season. Maybe people feel better splurging on themselves as long as they are helping out. I just got my numbers in on a fundraiser and it was $1,200. Not overly great, but, oh, did I mention this was ONE person!!!!! She had her mom, and sisters selling at work, but wowzie!! Got me a little freaked out about my next one, though. It's for 60 kids. This could be a really good season for me, but also very busy. Good luck to everyone on their shows & fundraisers!!

Have you looked at Candles and Supplies? Some of them are currently out of stock. But I think the prices are good.
