  1. For my silicone molds...I fill with water. That's gives me a good idea. I don't know how you would do a wood mold. I'm sure there's math involved.
  2. It's your choice. I only do a pound or two at a time, so the microwave works for me.
  3. That's why I like forums. You get different ways of doing the same thing. Find what works for you and go for it.
  4. This is true. That's why we formulate and test. Tweak the recipe. Test some more. Finally a finished product that can be sold.
  5. I use the microwave all the time for melting my soap. I set it for 2 minutes. Then stir. Do another minute. Been doing it this way for about 7 years now. The microwave is fine.
  6. Some days are like that. That's one reason why I only do melt and pour soap. Re-melt and go at it again.
  7. I at least get a full melt pool on the first burn. If the container or pillar is 3" in diameter, then at least 3 hours for the first time. I usually go longer on my burns if I'm going to be home all day.
  8. Been there When you get it too hot and it crumbles, remelt it with some added water or glycerin added in. I recently had to do this...works like a charm. I added glycerin to mine. Made a nice creamy bar of soap with lots of lather.
  9. Here's the guideline I use: Water 75% Honey 2 % Stearic Acid 2 % Oils/Butters 15% E-Wax 4 % Preservative 1% Fragrance Oil 1% Heat the water and honey together in the microwave. Almost to boiling is what I do. In another container heat/melt the stearic acid, oils/butters and e-wax together in the microwave. Pour the water mixture into the second container. You can use a stick blender, mixer or stir by hand until all is blended. During the cool down phase add preservative and fragrance oil. Keep stirring until totally blended.
  10. and it's easy. Then you know what's in it.
  11. Thank you. I ditched the wood mold and bought a silicone loaf mold. Much easier for me. I like to keep things simple.
  12. You will be fine with this base. I buy mine from Bramble Berry's and Peaks. They are the same base.
  13. You're welcome. sao is sweet almond oil fco is fractionated coconut oil
  14. I add shea aloe butter, jojoba oil, honey, sao, and fco to mine. Have not had a problem.
  15. I use the low sweat cp like melt and pour base. I'm wrapping in paper with no problem. I also put the soap in a shrink wrap bag (left open and not shrunk), then put that in an organza bag. I leave them out for a day or two before wrapping. Been doing this for about 7 years now.
  16. Thanks Stella. It's been a week and I can still smell it. This is a fresh, clean scent. It's a new like for me.
  17. Thank you both. The color is chrome green oxide mixed with the oils before putting into the soap base. I usually mix mica and oxides with glycerin, but the oils were in front of me.
  18. This is my first time using a wood soap mold. I tried really hard to get the bars the same size, but that didn't work out so well. I added Shea Aloe Butter, FCO, and OO to the base (low sweat cp like melt and pour).
