  1. oh...good point about the sales tax...I didn't think of that. Besides they only carry Enchanted-Lites wax which of course I have tried. Burns very nice but lots of craters and frost issues. I was speaking with Dan at CS the other day and he suggested trying the CB 135 with half teaspoon of UV inhibitor pour at 110 degrees and this should take care of frost and crater issues. I don't know if scent throw is any better with this wax but will give it a try. BTW I did try the CD 22 and it burned way too hot...I also tried a CD 14 and it was way too cool so now I'm going for the 18 and 20.
  2. Hi Gary, I'm currently using Ecosoy Advanced and it is a very pretty wax but has it's challenges...I'm not ready to give up on it yet and will tame it but I'm also going to try Ecosoy CB135 just got some today and not greasy at all with very similar qualities. HTH
  3. I just poured Apples and Maple Bourban today...it's to die for...will see how it burns in a couple of days. As far as jars are concerned I'm still trying to wick a 10oz bulb jar...went to CS's wick guide and it said LX 22 and HTP's tried both and niether worked also tried Eco's...they would burn great first burn then die on the second...since then I have switched to CD's and RRD's per a few suggestions on this board. I find that they are working better but I think I have finally come to the conculsion that it will have to be DW'd :undecided 3.5 inch diameter at the center. I'm also thinking of giving CB135 a try..not really sure of what the differences are. Have you tried anything from Florida Soy Solutions...being that they are so close shipping should be less. TxGirl....I never heard of Flickers and have not tried any FO's from Bitter Creek.
  4. I just orderd a few samples from them...but I will let you know how they are after I test in soy.
  5. I was in Target and Walgreens today and I'm amazed at how cheap a glass jar container candle is and I'm not talking a small candle they are 16oz or better in glass lidded jars. They are selling for less then $10.00, how do they do that? Are the ingredients really that much inferior to what we all use? Actually the ones in Target were very attractive, they must be imported as I'm sure they are not hand poured. Just curious if anyone has lost sales because of this or what they do to overcome this....
  6. I think RRD 55's are for larger containers over 3.5 but I'm not totally sure.
  7. Very pretty....I love the beveled edges!
  8. My experience is that they are more of a nightmare to wick...I still have not got the right wick for this darn jar...I have tried LX's RRD's HTP's Eco's and CD's and that is just for the 10oz bulb...so far the CD's are working the best but I think I'm going to have to double wick this jar...if you have any suggestions they would be enormously apprecitated...
  9. I wanted to try them all but had to have some self control... I got Cool Citrus Basil Chardonnay Carmaleozed Pralines Apples and Mapple Bourban Black Currant and Nectarine White Clover Tea Sage and Pomegranate Lemon Chiffon Hansel and Gretel's House Cranberry Marmalade Green Tea and Lemon Grass Strawberry Cucumber Melon I will see how they test and add them to my list above...:smiley2: I just started working with the Advanced...found it to be the best looking soy wax around...but I'm definitly having challenges wicking it and scent throw. What has been your experience with this wax? I live on the East coast of Florida...Palm Beach County, Lake Worth to be exact...I'm not sure where Cedar Key is that in the Keys or are you futher north?
  10. I just ordered a bunch of FO samples from Candlescience...took advantage of their sale...I'm looking forward to testing them as soon as I get them.
  11. According to their website these are a new product for them but it did not give any wax or price info. I guess they worked some kind of deal out with Suggle to use their name.
  12. Yes....those are the bulb jars that I have been posting about on here...they are one heck of a PITA to wick and label but they sure are pretty. :smiley2:
  13. Reminds me of the time I purchased a ton of can goods for a hurricane heading in my direction only to realize that when I needed to open the cans all I had was an electric can opener and no electric...duh... guess I should have put the manual can opener with the cans, so I guess I can really relate to the matches being with the candles...
  14. I just found these on a website from a company called Biederman and Sons...I do not know if they are soy because it does not say, I was just wondering if anyone has seen these before. I thought they were pretty
  15. Hi Ingrid, I buy a lot of my supplies from Candle Science and I have found them to be very helpful and quick with shipping. I just started using their fragrances and so far I like them...HTH

  17. ok...I have been reading this post for a while so here goes my opinion and I will probably get blasted by the B&B folks for this... but here goes.... If these candles are being made with 100% soy and EO's they are much safer then traditional body lotions. A traditional body lotion will have a host of chemicals in them that are suspected or are carcinogenic and some linked to breast cancer. Parabens: Used as inhibitors of microbial growth and to extend shelf life of products. Widely used even though they are known to be toxic. Have caused many allergic reactions and skin rashes. Highly toxic. Recent test has linked this chemical to breast cancer. Propylene Glycol: Propylene glycol (PG) is a petroleum derivative. It penetrates the skin and can weaken protein and cellular structure. Commonly used to make extracts from herbs. PG is strong enough to remove barnacles from boats! The EPA considers PG so toxic that it requires workers to wear protective gloves, clothing and goggles and to dispose of any PG solutions by burying them in the ground. Because PG penetrates the skin so quickly, the EPA warns against skin contact to prevent consequences such as brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities. But there isn't even a warning label on products such as stick deodorants, where the concentration is greater than in most industrial applications Silicone derived emollients: Silicone emollients are occlusive - that is they coat the skin, trapping anything beneath it, and do not allow the skin to breathe (much like plastic wrap would do.) Recent studies have indicated that prolonged exposure of the skin to sweat, by occlusion, causes skin irritation. Some synthetic emollients are known tumour promoters and accumulate in the liver and lymph nodes. They are also non-biodegradable, causing negative environmental impact. Dimethicone Dimethicone Copolyol CyclomethiconeMineral Oil: Petroleum by-product that coats the skin like plastic, clogging the pores. Interferes with skin's ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders. Slows down skin function and cell development, resulting in premature aging. Used in many products (baby oil is 100% mineral oil!) Any mineral oil derivative can be contaminated with cancer causing PAH's (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap. Mineral oil Liquidum paraffinum (also known as posh mineral oil!) Paraffin oil Paraffin wax Petrolatum...I could continue but will leave it at that...so in my opinion the biggest issue with this product is that some people will think all candles are ok to put on their skin and children will also want to imitate this idea so all though I think the candle in general is not harmful it is the consequence of using it improperly that will cause most of the problems for the public as well as us the candle makers who will most likely have to add several more warnings on the label JMO :smiley2:
  18. Wow...that color is dead on to the other candle...very nice...this is why it is so hard to decide about color or no color...when I see color it is very exciting and adds another dimension to the candle...now if there was only a way to get some great looking boxes at reasonable prices:wink2:
  19. Yes...I agree with you Henryk...price is relative to the desire for the product. I personally would spend $30 dollars on this candle because I really like the look of it and the handy travel tag that comes with it...there is definitly value in that product for me. However...starting a business on shoestring budget does bring some issues into play...what will get me the most attractive and best candle for my budget, would I love to have containers like the one above...you betcha...can I afford to do so at this time...um...no...so with that in mind which directions would be the best way to go...white candle with pretty box...or colored candle with regular box! BTW....would love to read that article if you find it:wink2:
  20. I'm still going around with this one....I think the colorless looks really classy and chic but then when I see colored candles that looks nice also. Is it more expensive to add color to a candle or is it more expensive to have more decorative packaging? This candle if from Archipleago is 13.5 oz and has color and great packagingand retails for $30.00
  21. Yikes...unless you are both on the same page and everything is in writting, I would suggest a contract with all the details on who does what and how you will both be compensated. Is there enough work for her to validate giving up half of your business, will bringing her on create more business or just drain away from what you have now? Can you take her on in a limited capacity and see how it goes...if having her creates more business then you can reconsider a full partnership? I took a partner on in my Real Estate business and it was a disaster...was giving up half my commisson and still doing all the work.:embarasse Anyway good luck a with whatever way you choose to go.
  22. Hi John...welcome to the Candletech  I'm in S. Florida and I get most of my supplies from Candlescience, FloridaSoySolution and SoyCandle.com...not too many suppliers in the Florida area but those are the best ones I could find with great customer service that are reasonable close.
  23. Hi Justright...welcome to candle making, I just started to make candles also...and I have to agree with everyone that the most important thing is making a sellable candle which can take months to figure out...it is going on several months for me and I still have not figured out how to wic, wax, scent one freaking bulb jar properly. So be prepared to put the time and effort into the product first the rest will happen. HTH:wink2:
