  1. BTW...does anyone know how to post a thumnail...I can only get a link on here.
  2. ok...here is my first attempt at container candles...these will be great for Valentines day...I put a tag on them with card stock...I will have to find a less rigid tag as those will most likely bend and look crappy after a while. I put the FO name on top. I think I'm just going to try to use a round sticker on top but this is ok for now since it is only friends and family that are buying from me. BTW I used NG In the Mood and Passionate Kisses!
  3. Hi iammommy, I'm on the east coast Palm Beach County....I have had a heck of a time finding local distributors best I could do is FloridaSoySolutions.com just north of orlando and they do not have all the supplies I need...so I have been reaching out to AL, GA and KY to get supplies. How about you...any luck with local distributors?
  4. Hi Brook, I found plastic lids on this site...scroll to the bottom you will find them. Apothecary Lids & Bands
  5. Great...good ideas...I have though about a cord with a tag but once removed there is nothing to remind the customer of where he/she got the candle. I never thought about a cigar label...what type of program would you use to print it and what type of paper, I would assume you would clue it on with a hot glue gun?
  6. oh...sorry about that I got: Buttermint Celtic Moon Sice Cherry Mist Flannel Sheets Grasshoper Pie Lavender Apples and Oak Little Black Dress Pink Sugar Twigs and Berries White Jasmine Tangerine Lavender Manderine Twist ....going to need to work a 2nd job to afford this new addiction!
  7. I just poured a tester of Pink Sugar from Aroma Haven...very light scent oob so I'm not really sure how it will throw once in soy.
  8. I also ordered the Kama Sutra scents from NG...got a lot of good reveiws for Desire, Satin Sheet, Passionate Kisses...none of my test smellers liked Dr. Feelgood, neither did I. I still have several others to try but will let you know my feedback as soon as I get it.
  9. I just purchased a few dozen 10oz bulb jars because I really liked the way they look...different from most jars, however I did not realize what a logistical nightmare it would be to try and label this jar. Due to its proportions It apprears that a special cut label will be needed unless you just use a round label on the lid. Has anyone been successful at labeling this Jar?
  10. You can say that again...I have been testing, testing and more testing. Tried 4 different kinds of soy wax so far, found Natures Wax C-3 to make the most attractive candles but found that Enchanted-Lites burns the best...mixed the two together and did not like the results...so I'm back with C-3. I also tried quite a few different FOs from...did I say quite a few...more like a ton and found CS,NG and my favorite Aroma Haven the best!. Wicks, Wicks and more Wicks...tried Eco wicks, LX, and wicks from Candle Wealth, I actually like the CW wicks the best...nice tight braid on them but found that all the wicks created Schrooms no matter what I did. I have poured at various different temperatures and found it is best to add FOs hotter and pour cooler and have poured into various glass and jj of all shapes and sizes and have settled on the bulb jars and orderd a few dozen of them unitl I realized it is a logistical nightmare to put any kind of label on the front of them...oh well...you live and learn. Thanks everyone for all your help...I hope that I will soon be able to do the same for someone else.
  11. I have found some on this site... capPlug® and Candle Closures
  12. All I can say is...WOW...I just got some samples from Aroma Haven they ROCK...I only picked the ones that they suggested for Soy so we will see if they still Rock after I test burn. They also put little candies and a welcome card in my order...very nice. I'm still waiting on samples from Day Star...hope they are just as good.
  13. You are all amazing, I have been stumped for weeks trying to figure out a logo, hopefully it is ok to ask for graphic work since I'm a newbie but I would love to get a logo and would be more then willing to pay for it or perhaps even some referrals would be great.
  14. I think the candle lady may not have been that far off the mark with her cancer statments, however I'm sure it would take more then one application and many years to bioaccumulate to cause any damage. Not to quote myself but keep this reference below in mind when purchasing these candles or any product that contains a synthetic fragrance. Fragrance: Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to four thousand separate ingredients, many toxic or carcinogenic. Symptoms reported to the USA FDA include headaches, dizziness, allergic rashes, skin discoloration, violent coughing and vomiting, and skin irritation. Clinical observation proves fragrances can affect the central nervous system, causing depression, hyperactivity, and irritability.
  15. lol...you are all right...I was thinking the same thing but I was being too cheap and now that you mention it I did see a candle the other day in Walmart with the plastic lid. Thanks for you responses I feel better now about my decision to not go down the plastic lid route! I get me jars right now from FancyCandleJars and yes I did read the posts on this company after I orderd but so far I have not had a problem with them so I guess I will keep using them
  16. Hi everyone, Ijust found a website a website....www.bottlesandtops.com... where I can get the Apothecary Jars for are really good price without the lids, when I add the price of the lid and shipping in that brings back up to about $2.00 per jar. I noticed that they also sell plastic lids for the Apothecary Jars and they are only .20 each...big difference...even with shiping I'm way under $2.00 per jar. The only problem I have with this is I'm not really sure how it will look...will it look cheap and tacky? But at the same time if I have to ship them out to a customer it will save on shipping, my glass tops weigh about .5lbs each...! Any thoughts would be appreciated...
  17. hmmm.....I was just wondering that perhaps if the candle was a 100% organic soy wax sans color and fragrance then perhaps that would be the way to go if you really wanted to bath in your candle. The 100% organic would assure you that there would be no residual pesticide to seep into your body. But that sounds like a really boring candle!
  18. Hi all, I started reading this thread and just wanted to pass along my two scents (pun intented)...I have to agree with Cet, FO's and colors can be highly irritating to the skin and system. I persnonally would love to make soy candles with only EO's in them but have not figured it out yet. I would just be careful with putting these chemicals on your skin...yes they are mostly synthetic chemicals and they will absorb into your system, please reference the paragraph below... Color Pigments: Synthetic colours made from coal tar. Contain heavy metal salts that deposit toxins onto the skin, causing skin sensitivity and irritation. Animal studies have shown almost all of them to be carcinogenic. ...I would take a precautionary approach before applying this to your skin!
  19. Thanks for all your answers they really are helpful for a Newbie...and now that you mention it Henryk I think that is definitly a possibility it almost looks like the wick splits in two I wonder if cutting it on an angle would make a difference...ahh...another test to conduct.
  20. lol...you are right it seems that most of the big distributors or at least the ones I like are all located in the midwest somewhere. The best I could do as far as candle and soap supplies is www.Floridasoysolutions.com they are located just north of Orlando so that should help a little with shipping cost. Keep me posted if you find any local distributors and I will do the same. Linda
  21. Hi Candlespastore, I'm from WPB and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find any close candle supply and glass companies that I could at least drive to and pick up to save on the shipping. Have not found any yet...most are out of state. So I guess I wouldn't be able to help you locate vendors but just wanted to say hello. Linda
  22. Ok...as if the ever confusing soy wax issue it not enough...now I cannot figure out why I'm getting such large mushrooms on the top of my wicks. I get them right away, I use cotton wicks based on the measurment of the jar and only use 1oz of FO to 1lb of wax and keep them trimmed. What am I doing wrong?
  23. Thanks Pixisprkl...let me know how that combo works for you. I'm glad to hear that you purchased other soy candles that had the same issues. I would really like to start selling my candles...(once I get it all worked out)...but was concerned about the appearance, maybe I should be a little more forgiving and not sweat it so much.....
  24. Hi Everyone, I'm very new at this but I have been trying several different soy waxes...I was reading the other day about Enchanted Lites Millenium Blend and how it was the Cadillac of Soy Waxes and a one pure ect...So I excitedly orderd a 10lb sample and I have been very dissapointed with the perfromance of this brand. I'm getting a lot of wet spots and crater tops and I have tried pouring at various temperatures. I do find that once set it burns and dries nicely but I'm getting very unattractive candles to say the least...has anyone else tried this brand if so any thoughts or recomendations ? BTW..I'm getting a very attractive candle with Nature Wax C3 but not such a good burn...can I mix the two together?
