  1. When they completely cool, the soap should have "shrunk" and pulled away from the sides of the clamshells. So they should be able to just open, turn over and have the soap fall out. You could add a note, that if the soap is "stuck" in the package to apply some pressure to the front to pop it out.
  2. Lotion turned out pretty good. I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as it was what I had around. The resulting lotion is nice and creamy and feels wonderful, however my lotion smells strongly of olive oil... I'm hoping that using a Lighter Olive Oil will fix this problem. I might also try subbing out some of the olive for another oil or two and see how much that changes the recipie.
  3. Thanks to you too hun! I'll let you guys know how this batch turns out.
  4. What are "Proper Lotion Making Temps?" What is the best way to get your water phase to said temps and "hold" for the proper time? I'm going to make OOH Cream, for those of you who know what that is. The recipe calls for Honey, do you think regular honey or liquid honey would be better?
  5. I'm trying to compare the recipes for Bunny's Bath Melts to the new Emuslified Bath Melts recipe I found... I just made the Emulsified ones and they seem to contain more Melted Liquidy to the powder ingredients... Wanting to try tweaking somewhere between the two recipies. The one for Bunny's melts that I have has oz and cup measurments so without measuring out the recipe and weighting it all I'm not sure how to convert to %
  6. I tried this recipe out!! Loved the non scented version, but the scented version I made was oily. Not sure if it was the FO I used or if maybe I just needed to sub out a bit of the SAO for the amount of FO I used, which wasn't alot at all... Gonna play..
  7. I've been eyeing the "Holy Grail" recipe for about a week now... keep wishing I had time to give it a whirl...
  8. Thanks! Not quite what I was looking for but very very useful!
  9. I'm in search of a calculator that will allow me to imput % and give me grams or ounces needed to make a certain sized batch of lotion, scrubs, and other random stuff... It would be nice if it went from grams and ounces to %'s too! Any suggestions?
  10. Just posting to let you know that I've purchased from Oilsbynature before! Super fast shipping and the cocoa butter I bought was of a good quality!
  11. Does anyone know of a company that sells all three sizes? Other than purchasing in bulk fromt he supplier *I just don't need 1000 of the things LOL*
  12. Any suggestions for us who haven't gotten that far?
  13. Here's a link to some recipes I found... I haven't tried any of them, but it may give you a good starting point to experiment on your own. http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/jude/emulscrubs.htm There's also this recipe which had been posted in another board. Bohunks Scrub Here is a recipe for a nice emulsified scrub that is not leaky or oily, it's more solid but when you rub it on it melts and when you rinse it leaves a layer of lotion on your skin. It's very nice! I suppose you could tweak it and add a bit of liquid soap to it to make an all in one product, but I don't know how that would affect the emulsion. Posted on another board. Makes 10 oz 1 oz ewax (10%) .8 oz stearic (8%) 3.5 oz soybean oil (or 65% liquid oils) 3 oz coconut oil .7 oz shea (or 14% solid oils) .7 oz cocoa butter .2 oz FO (2%) .1 oz Phenonip (1%) Melt everything but FO and Phenonip together. Add FO and Phenonip, then stir in as much brown sugar or white sugar as you would like. It will thicken as it cools so keep that in mind. I usually add about a cup or cup and a half, mixture of white and brown. I've never tried it with salt because I don't like salt scrubs, but give it a shot and see how it works! Pack into a widemouth jar. Scrub will solidify when it is completely cool.
  14. In Kristen's Shower sells a really GREAT emulsified sugar scrub, she calls it body frosting... it's spoiled me! If you ever run across a recipe be sure to share it!
  15. Can you add in butters like shea to M&P? WHOA! LOL How much would you add?
  16. I'm making a bunch of melt and pour soaps for christmas gifts to give out to random people... Today I was working on some Egg Nog scented soaps and couldn't figure out how to make it look more like real Egg Nog... Then it hit me... hey other soapers add in all sorts of stuff to their soaps... why not me... So I stirred in some nutmeg... and it worked out wonderful! I'm going to try mixing in some pumpkin to see how that turns out tomorrow... My question is... What have YOU added to your M&P?
  17. I'd like to give out some lotion as gifts for this christmas, however I'm no where NEAR giving out something I created from scratch. I was looking into bases and found the Multi-Bases E1??? Just add water right? Anyone have any experinces with these? Where they good? Did they incorporate well with FO's? What about feel? Cost v/s buying a gallon of base? How much would I need to buy to make a gallon of lotion?
  18. They make a soap melter... it looks about like those home rice cookers. But I wouldn't use the presto pot... it gets a bit too hot for M&P
  19. Thanks everyone! I'll add some Vit E to the oil I've already got going and look into some fractionated coconut oil when I order supplies next! Any suggestions on ration of oil to Vit E?
  20. Cocoa butter is supposed to be VERY hard! So you've got yourself a good batch...
  21. I'm going to use the following recipe to make my first batch of lotion Ingredients Citric Acid.......2 grams Glycerin........45 grams Stearic Acid....34 grams E. Wax......34 grams Oil.......170 grams Water........760 grams Germaben II........4 grams Fragrance Oil.......To preference Details: This is a simple basic lotion recipe easy enough to cut your teeth on or basic enough to easily test a new oil combo. You can cut this recipe in half to test a new oil or to make a small batch. You can double it to make about a half gallon lotion base. Instead of buying lotion base, try this and compare the cost. I use an 8 cup Pyrex Measuring cup to make lotions and creams. Weigh everything! I like grams for lotions and creams because of the small quantities of some of the ingredients. Start by weighing the water and putting it in the measuring cup. Never use tap water. Weigh each ingredient separately. I like to use a Styrofoam bowl or Dixie cups for each item. Add the Citric Acid, Glycerin, Stearic, & E-Wax to the water. The oils can be any combination of oils and butter you want. If you use cocoa butter, Shea or Mango Butters, melt them gently and allow them to come to near room temp and mix with other oils. The total oil component can be mixed together ahead of time. Before adding the oils to the Water Phase, heat the Water mixture in the microwave for 3 minutes. Stir and repeat until it turns white and you are sure all the E-Wax and Stearic have melted well. Then add the oils and stir together. Use a stick blender to mix your lotion together. I like to come back every 10 minutes or so and whip it again and again as it cools to make a light and fluffy lotion. The lotion will be thin as water when it is hot. Don't worry! It will thicken when it cools. Do not add Germaben until the lotion has cooled to about 100 degrees. You may substitute LiquaPar and add at any temp! You can split this up at this point, color it, fragrance it, and pour into containers. I pour my lotion while still warm enough to be thin. Pour into your bottles and put the lids on. Shark or turn the bottles as they cool to check consistency. You can make your lotion thicker by decreasing the water or increasing the Stearic Acid. I have a few questions. 1. If I use LiquaPar Optima instead of the Germaben II is it the same percentage? 2. I'm thinking, cocoa butter, shea butter, and some soy bean oil or olive oil or sweet almond oil for the oils portion. Anyone have any good insight on ratios? 3. If I wanted to add in some liquid honey or aloe extract or Cyclomethicone into this recipe where and when would I add them in?
  22. You could try that I don't see how it could hurt if the soap is already set!
