  1. I keep my wax in a rain barrel outside in the yard.
  2. I prefer getting them by weight. If it weighs correctly I can use the volume to estimate how heavy the oil is and use that as a starting point for wicking.
  3. I think Nag Champa is sweeter, patchouli more like wood. There's a huge difference between the two. Yet it's hard for me to describe. I'm definitely not a fragrance copy writer.
  4. That reminds me - fetpak ships orders of over $25 for free.
  5. You could, but those stores want $2-$3 a box, which is ridiculous. If you're in the middle of nowhere I'd suggest Uline or Papermart (depending on which coast you're closer to), or if you live somewhere reasonably urban or suburban, the phone book. I live in a town of around 200k and was surprised to see several box warehouses in town that I could just drive to and purchase boxes in bundles of 25 or more for $.20-$.30 a box.
  6. If ten percent of those surveyed didn't even understand the question are you sure you've got an accurate result there? Marketing research is a strange beast, and responses will vary wildly on the same topic depending on how the question is phrased.
  7. Perhaps the difference is whether or not you add UV or a UV inhibitor.
  8. I've found that to be the case. You might try "bumping up the scent" a little by putting something else behind it - a vanilla or a "fresh" scent might help them along.
  9. Gateway is in Dupo. IL, near St. Louis. They have a website but no online ordering.
  10. www.candlescience.com www.candlesoylutions.com www.gatewayfoodproducts.com (soy wax)
  11. I recommend this nice lady. She is very fast, efficient, and ships USPS actual shipping charges. Unfortunately she is also on vacation until the 4th.
  12. I've seen several products (mostly makeup/beauty) that are high end on QVC and HSN. It's not the crap-a-thon it was in the 1980's.
  13. Shipping cases at a time is best done (IMO) with the "box in box" method. Put the tureens in the box they came in, then put that box in a bigger box and surround it with peanuts or paper or other packing material so it doesn't move around in the bigger box. You can put more than one case in the bigger box, just make sure it has plenty of packing material around it and all boxes are packed in tightly. I print out FedEx slips and then drop them off at the FedEx place. If you sell just a little bit, Kinko's has a Fedex store and the one near me sells packing peanuts for around $15 for around 27 cubic feet. If you're shipping more, or more often, I'd recommend finding a box warehouse/factory within driving distance and getting your packing material there. You'll have to buy more, and boxes are usually sold in bundles of 25 or more, but it's much cheaper per unit. The $2.50 that Kinko's and FedEx and other retail places want per box is highway robbery.
  14. I like that they will ship USPS if you just want something small. I have not had a problem with them.
  15. Candle Soylutions has 100% soy flake, but I dunno if it's Golden Brands or not. They're up the road from you near Muskogee, OK.
  16. I expect a full melt pool more quickly for candles with a small diameter, and more slowly for those with a larger diameter.
  17. I think that's relative, too. I've just started dinking around with color, and bought a couple of liquids from CandleScience. I'm getting great saturation with just 4-6 drops per pound (GB444), but it seems to be doing something to the hot throw, even at that low amount. More testing is of course required now.
  18. Everything suppliers sell rises in price because they have stuff shipped to them, too.
  19. Yep, looks like either the Taper or the Interlude jar from Libbey.
  20. Hmmm..maybe an elderberry and rose scent? Cranberry patchouli? Cinnamon apple? Cinnamon and sandalwood? Frankincense and mulberry (lol)? The possibilities are endless...
  21. To be honest I wouldn't be happy with either. Is there another brand of wick you could try? I have found that even with the same type of wax, the difference in jars and FOs means that sometimes a cotton core that worked great with one FO needs an HTP with another FO in the same jar, or the HTP that worked great in one jar needs a CD with a different jar even though it's the same FO (or vicey-versy, of course). Candles are weird.
  22. I mixed (in a 2oz tin) a sample of MC's patchouli with some Peach that I have (from somewhere else) to test a Peach Patchouli scent... I burned it tonight and a fly flew into the melt pool and died. It must be good.
  23. Soy wax isn't actually "wax" the way paraffin is; it's mostly hydrogenated soybean oil.
