  1. $1.20 a case is pretty significant over the long run, isn't it?
  2. Oh, gotcha. You had me paranoid there for a second! Good idea about the postal scale. There's an automated system in the lobby of our local PO that I can use at my leisure (and I think I will ) Thanks! ETA: 415 soy flake.
  3. I think my scale must be off. This is the second thread I've seen the 6.7 oz weight figure for an 8 oz. candle, but when I weigh for one 8 oz candle (filled to 1/4" from the top) I only need 5.5 oz of wax by weight. Anybody know a simple way to check the accuracy of a small (kitchen) scale?
  4. I make my own. I have no idea if it's cheaper or not, but I know if I make them myself I can have them just as I want them.
  5. LOL...this must be why accounting is such a lucrative business!
  6. Gelluminations has just the diffuser oil base that you add fragrance to, so you can make your own kits if you like. I called them a couple of months ago to ask if the base they sell is DPG or Isopropyl Mistrate or what, but they said they didn't know (so don't ask me ) Whatever it is, I think it works pretty well.
  7. That's twenty-eight cents for the wax, isn't it? I'm not irritated; heck I even made the mistake of first calculating the wax at 8 ounces per jar (duh, I know). Just making sure I have the numbers straight.
  8. Yep. There have to be suppliers that cater to all types; little guys who don't want much at a time and can't meet big minimums, all the way to those who want pallets at a time and want the cost break for it, and everyone in between. Nothing wrong with that.
  9. Have you tried reed diffusers?
  10. She also posted later in the thread that she added 10 cents to the cost of the wax for "electricity", so if she's using 6.7oz of wax per jar that's still a comfy 67 cents a pound for wax, including shipping.
  11. If she's getting her wax at 56 cents a pound with shipping I'd bet she's also buying more than a dozen jars at a time, too. Just a guess. Buying in major bulk is often much cheaper.
  12. When I was a kid, the actual blue raspberry Icee's they sold at the pool were blue (so I'm thinking blue )
  13. With the weight of the wax being slightly heavier than the fluid oz output, I get ~174 8 oz. candles out of 60 lbs of (only) 415 soy with a 6.25% FO load by my math.
  14. Très Spray? ETA: Oops, scratch that; apparently there is already a product out there with that name.
  15. I think it depends completely on your area. People around here don't garage sale stuff until long after I would have thrown it away, so well-made hand-crafted candles would not go over well in that venue.
  16. Well, at least they sent you a well-composed and grammatically correct email. Thanks for the update on these guys. Holy Christmas.
  17. I found it astonishing how much shipping costs add to the cost of each candle. I wish I had more types of local supply nearby.
  18. I don't use paraffin so I'm not sure how much help this will be, but it sounds almost like your FO is settling below that quarter inch mark as the candle cures. Unless of course, paraffin is supposed to have a full melt pool in .5 x jar diameter? If that's not the case I'd say your wick is burning the FO off somehow on the first burn but not on subsequent burns. Not sure why on that, though, unless it has something to do with the cooler burning of zinc wicks. How tall is the wick on burn #1?
  19. I think if Walmart is going to carry her candles, "she's" a much bigger operation than one woman who can't drive an hour out of Owensboro. I agree with creativecandles. He was full of it.
  20. That's because they are also labelsbythesheet.
  21. I second labelsbythesheet. Great service and reasonable shipping - really good for small quantities.
  22. Cherry Lane Country Sampler Candle Factory Cape Candle tartburners.com There's a lot more but you might start with those five. Try googling "Beanpod soy beads". (I am not affiliated with Beanpod in any way) Good luck!
  23. I've had nothing but compliments about their Mediterranean Fig and Night-Blooming Jasmine as well. Good stuff.
