  1. I tested it in a soy/par blend and I had to wick down, lol.
  2. How long have you been making candles? Do you have product liability insurance, tax i.d.#, and/or business lisc.?
  3. Just curious, when do you plan to start selling your candles?
  4. I love my wick centering tools. They are so handy.
  5. This is the exact problem I'm having. If I wick it to burn a full melt pool, the melt pool is real deep. If I wick down, it won't reach a full melt pool and it doesn't seem to matter which type of wick I use. Since I have c/o, I'll give it a try. Thank you :highfive:
  6. I'm diving and I keep diving even deeper, lol. I was just hoping someone would share a little about the different additives that could be added. I've read thru the the old post and the different suppliers explainations but they really don't explain very well.
  7. There are a lot of different reasons why you can experience decreased scent throw when another person experiences increased scent throw when adding paraffin to soy. Some f/o's do very well in soy but do really bad in paraffin, it could be the type of paraffin you used , the wicking or even the amount of paraffin you added. You may try using less paraffin if that f/o does really well in soy. Jmho
  8. I've been blending the different Golden Brand waxes with 20% t 45% paraffin. I'm getting some really nice results with scent throw, adhesion, and color. The blends that I like best for the adhesion seem to get a deeper melt pool. The wicks seem to be fine, I think it's just because of the lower melt point temps. I was thinking of adding an additive that adds hardness and slows the burn time down. But I can't help thinking if I do that it will loose it's adhesion to the containers. Any opinions? Tia
  9. For those of you that use a soy/paraffin blend, do you add any additives? If so, can you explain why you felt the need to add them? Tia P.S. Oops, I forgot to mention additives for soy/paraffin container wax.
  10. I know alot of folks will most likely disagree with me :embarasse but I have always had really good luck with heating my wax to 200* and adding my f/o at 175* to 180*. I just have it in my head that the oil will not fully incorporate with the wax at low temps. You may want to try testing against the 2 temperatures. hth
  11. I'm sorry, I wish I could be more help. I've seen a few of my candles do this but it usually happened while it was still cooling. But once it completely set up it went away. Hopefully I asked enough (?'s) that someone else can be more help. :embarasse
  12. What I'm understanding you to say is, you have been making candles with the same wax, same f/o's and same color and none of them in the past looked like this, right? Do you have a new box of wax you are using? Sometimes soy wax can vary from different batches. Did you get your wax from a supplier or from ebay?
  13. Can you post a pic? Soy candles do look very different than most store candles.
  14. Oh, I really love :rolleyes2 having everything tested and new f/o's needing to be tested only to find out I have to use a new wax and retest all the same f/o's over again before I can move on to the new ones. *faint* I keep trying to remind myself "everything happens for a reason, even if I can't understand it at the moment". I know that may sound lame, but I'm crasping to keep my sanity, lol.
  15. Do have an update? I am really liking the look of 464 & paraffin over the other combinations. I still want to mix 415 & 444 and see how they do.
  16. That's great news Sharon. Best of luck with all your f/o's.
  17. Your container looks like a 16 oz or larger apothecary. You may have to consider double wicking.
  18. I would think if you cook you f/o for 30 min. it would burn off the scent. Jmho The light and dark specks could be frost from the soy. Are you coloring your candles? Please understand this is all my opinion. But you might want to use a supplier who has tested and worked with the products they sell. Atleast until you have more experience working with soy wax. Soy can be a pain and using a supplier who doesn't have experience working with the wax might add to the problem. They may not offer other products that are compatable with soy. Did you buy your wicks from them? If so, which ones did they suggest? Also there is alot of info about 464 on this board. I noticed you are new and just wanted to let you know there is a search at the top and you can find tons of info there, too. Hth
  19. I'm sorry, I forgot to mention I do containers. I have ordered the 6006 and 6098 but these are parasoy and I'm really looking to have more soy than paraffin. I've tried a few suppliers who private label their own 50/50 and 70/30. I really don't want to be dependent on one supplier for my wax. I've done so in the past and find myself in trouble when they have problems. I've read thru the old post but I really haven't read alot of successful endings. I'm reading where people have made blends they like but are still choosing to use private labeled wax from their suppliers. So it got me really curious is anyone here really happy with their own blend.
  20. I recently started blending soy with paraffin. I'm doing alot of testing but I'm just wondering has anyone had any real success in blending. I'm starting to feel like I would have better luck in finding the "Lost City of Atlantis", lol.
  21. If you don't want to buy a kit, don't want to buy 10lb. of every wax ,and want just soy, you might check out soycandle.com. They sell 1lb. bags. I just received several bags for testing blends today. I didn't want to get stuck with a bunch of wax I didn't like or wouldn't use. hth Good luck.
  22. Jennifer is right. Another thing is find a supplier near you that sells sample sizes in different waxes and wicks. That way you can test and see how they perform.
  23. I just noticed you are located in Kentucky. They are located in Louisville, KY. Shipping shouldn't be too bad, you might even be in driving distance. If so, I'm jealous. Lol.
