  1. Anyone ever seen a knock off or anything similar anywhere?
  2. My family is getting tired of walking in the door and hearing me ask "Can you smell that candle?" The worst part is that they probably have candle nose too now from being around it so much!
  3. I've been concerned about this as well. I have been testing JSB 50/50 in 8oz Apothecary Jars with Eco 14's and 12's. If I don't keep the wick trimmed to 1/8 inch the wick/flame smokes. I'm concerned that people who eventually buy my candles will not keep them trimmed properly so I did a test batch with RRD wicks yesterday - going to burn today and hope it doesn't happen again. Other than that problem, I love the JBB 50/50.
  4. I can't smell my candles now unless I stand outside for ten minutes and walk back in the house. Even then I'm not sure if I'm smelling the proper strength of the scents. It's frustrating to not really know how well the scent throw is. When you have others test your candle throw do you fully trust their opinions?
  5. I've heard a lot of talk about fire starters. I have tons of left over wax. What are they and exactly how do you make them? TIA
  6. I'm currently testing JSB 50/50 in 8 oz apothecary jars. I'm also using JS Fo's - I've been testing Winterberry Wreath and Jo's Pink Lemonade. I'm not having any problem getting a good meltpool with this wax. I started out using Eco 14's and had to wick down to a 12. I'm going to test a 10 because the 12 is smoking a bit unless I cut the wick very short. I'm afraid people who burn my candles will not trim the wicks adequately. I have some RDD sample wicks coming tomorrow that I plan on trying as well. The scent throw is awesome in this wax - the very next day. Sab
  7. I use Ecosoya Advanced and find pouring when the wax gets slushy works best to prevent frosting. However, I haven't been able to get a good hot scent throw with this wax even after a 2 week cure time. I've tried multiple FO's from 3 different companies. I'll be interested to know how the hot throw is for you. Sab
  8. My sample didn't come with directions so I sent an email to the supplier asking for directions. In the meantime I winged it. When I got the directions in the mail this morning I realized I'd been pouring at too high a temp. I have another batch cooling now. Waiting for a slushy consistancy. Does anyone have any experience with this wax? I'm wondering what the optimal cure time is for this brand? I test burned a candle from two days ago and it had a pretty good scent throw. Sab
  9. I actually bought two large (cookie) wire cooling racks - thought it was a great idea but they turned out not to be level enough and the candles were cooling lopsided. Oh well, I'll have to make cookies now!
  10. I bought a case of disposable wooden chopsticks at an Asian Market. I break them in half and use them to stir my wax. The case of 200 was 2.99 and I actually got 400 stirrers out of them.
  11. Do you mind if I ask which Soy wax are you using from The Jar Store that gave you a great hot scent throw in 24 hours?
  12. Here is an example: 8 oz apothecary jar (I've used Eco 12 and 14 wicks in this particular jar) with 1oz pp Gingerbread FO from Wholesalesuppliesplus.com. I heat the wax to 185, add FO at 170 and let cool to about 105 and pour very slowly into my jar. The Eco 14 gave a really good melt pool but I think it was burning too fast so I wicked down to a 12 which was good melt pool but still not a great scent throw. The only FO I've been able to get a fairly good hot scent throw from is Sun Ripened Raspberry from Cierra Candles. Even that took a good two weeks. I should also mention that I get a great cold scent throw from most of my FO's. I've ordered a 10 lb sample of JSB 50/50 from Justscent.com which should arrive at the beginning of the week. I've also got a 10 lb sample of Nature C-3 on order as well. I like the way the Ecosoy burns for the most part and it has a nice creamy appearance. If I find that one of the other waxes works better for me I will probably try J223 to mix 50/50 with the Ecowax to use up my left over. I'm thinking I'll get a better scent throw with the blends. If any of you have experience with these waxes I'd love to hear your feedback. Thanks, Sab
  13. Hi, I'm new to this board. I live just north of you in NH. I have used several distributors and found that Wholesalecandlesuppliesplus.com, and Candlescience.com have the quickest ground shipping for me. I get my supplies in 3-4 business days with both these distributors. However, I haven't ordered wax from either. Only other supplies - but heavy things like jars, etc. Sab
  14. I'm currently using Ecosoya Advanced but very frustrated with the curing time. After over 2 weeks I barely have a hot scent throw with many FO's. I'm currently testing other waxes hoping to find something that works better for me. I'm looking for a one pour candle that gives a good cold and hot throw in a short curing time. Looking forward to reading the posts and learning from your successes and mistakes. Sab
