I would guess that you'd want to fully cure the CP because it shrinks as it cures and the water evaporates. I would think that the M&P would pop off when it shrank.
Without knowing your recipe I can't say. Plug your recipe into this calculator The lye calc at the_sage and after you click on calculate lye, a new page will come up with superfat amounts for lye. Look at the amount of lye you used and compare it to the lye calc.
You can also add Lard unless you have an aversion to animal fats. It's funny that most commercial soaps have beef tallow in them but people shy away from animal fats in handmade product. Lard is less expensive than crisco and the ingredient list doesn't change. I also agree with hem06 that you should keep the coconut amount down. I personally use 15%. There are too many people out there that are sensitive to CO over 15-20%.
Lorrie, I found that the slots on the misty creek were about 4 times wider than the cutter and therre was enough play in the blade that the cuts were not always vertical. I took my misty creek knife and mold to a neighbor that does woodworking and he made me new molds with narrower knife guides and I love them. I am editing to add that my favorite log molds are from Ric at the Dish. It's a double log mold with some kind of clear liner and they are wonderful.
Honey isn't vegan either cdesousa. It isn't that anything was harmed but that it is produced by a bug or animal. At least that's the way I understand it. I'm not up on veganism, it just doesn't seem natural to me but that is just my opinion. Just FYI, the silk that I sell in the co-ops that I run is harvested from the cocoons after the worms have left them.
I use RBO, Lard, PKO, CO, Babassu and Castor with silk added to the lye water. I love my recipe and would never consider adding palm. Like I said, I don't miss using palm. (And I bet the Orangutans are thanking me)
Wow, double blast from the past. Hey there Amanda and Elizabeth. I've had SAO and RBO that were still very good after 2 years, they smelled normal and soaped normally. Welcome back you two.
Welcome to our soap addiction! Please, always remember to run every recipe through a lye calculator. When I run that through the lye calc at MMS, it tells me that the superfat is about .5%. I would be more likely to use that for laundry soap than on my skin. Go here. http://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php Make sure to change the units to grams and plug in your recipe. When you hit calculate, another page will come up with different lye amounts for the different superfat percentages. I love this calculator just for this feature. Good Luck.
I took the poll this morning and was very suprised that they had suppliers named and then an other box. I thought it was very leading and in poor taste. I was glad when I got the new poll and they were starting over without the pre-selected suppliers in each question.
I have a friend that got a judgement against a roommate that didn't pay rent. She put a lein against his car. If he sells it or trades it in, she gets paid.
Why does the scent have to be from CS? I can buy bergamot essential oil (no r after the a) at the health food store. I use one ounce for a two pound batch.
Go to the store and look at shea butter lotion. Shea is usually one of the last ingredients. They call it that because it has some (even in tiny amounts) shea in it. The same could go for soap. Do I like that kind of advertising, NO!
That's a great idea. Many times I will use a muslin bag. There aren't any man around my bathroom, darnit, so there are no mystery hairs. I use the bar. I never could get used to a wash cloth. Sometimes I use shower gloves if I've been camping or something where I come home feeling especially dirty.
