  1. Hi Carrie, I do not make soap, but I like your packaging. I do however think that the twine gets in the way of the text a bit - maybe it does not need the bow. Just my two cents worth, but it is different to what I have seen.
  2. Just had to share these pics with you. This was a store bought candle. Factory manufactured and cost 950 icelandic krona which is about $13.00!! Way too much tunnelling, a lot of shell and small flame. I buy candles sometimes as I am fairly new to candlemaking and like to get an idea of how different pillars burn. Happy to say that I am pretty pleased with the way mine burn. I just wonder if a person who does not make candles would be happy with this purchase.
  3. Thanks Candle Man for the idea about the chunk hurricane shell. I have to by some square hurricane moulds - then at least there would be no stress about a wick.
  4. Hi Scented, I am posting these two pics below as I was testing LX22 (on the left), and LX24 (on the right). They started off brilliantly and thought I was onto a winner with the 24, but half way down they start to bulge. I do 3 to 4 hour test burns. The MP for my wax is quite low 132F and I am wondering if I should add 10% Stearin to my wax as most candlemaking books suggest? I think I tried a LX26 once and the flame freaked me out because it was so large, but maybe should try again.
  5. Thanks for the kind comment. I have had this embed mould for years, can´t remember where I got. I think I saw it on this site when I was looking for a four leaf clover mould www.thecookiecuttershop.com I ordered quite a few mini moulds from them (snowflakes, gingerbread boy, angels etc) and they arrived today:yay: so I will be busy this weekend.
  6. I also wanted to post these pics of a chunk candle with a LX18 wick. A lot of bulging, therefore I decided to try LX16 as shown by the above pics. I guess tunnelling is preferable to this mess sometimes.
  7. This candle was made using straight paraffin, 5% Stearin, 3%FO and I wanted to try an LX16 wick. It is a 3" x4.5" size. I think it is burning OK. It has a shell, but I did not want a large melt pool as I have been having problems with bulging:angry2: I also wanted the embeds not to melt as it looks pretty with the flame shining through. The flame is flickering a lot though - could be a draft somewhere or do flames flicker a lot when they burn down inside a shell?? Could I have your opinions please and any tips/suggestions. Thanks for looking.
  8. Would like to say what a great colour green, definately something that could have been brewed up in a witches cauldron. Love your labels too.
  9. Hi everyone, I was just looking at all the fragrance oils and specials that Just Scents offers and they seem very reasonable and delicious:drool: . However, I read some time ago that a lot of people were not happy with these FO´s because they did not have a good hot scent throw. I live in Iceland and make pillar candles and am a bit nervous about ordering from this site if their scents are not particularly good, as international shipping is so costly. I know that everyone has different experiences with scents and the types of wax you use, but generally could you please advise if these are worth investing money in. Thanks very much.
  10. Marika those are really great. They are handpainted! - I thought they were embeds at first, but then noticed the fine hair detail on the bears back and the tree foilage. Very original. Well done.
  11. Wow what fantastic colours. Love all the angles on the one on the left. Very interesting rustic and mottle effect.
  12. Very nice cane, bet it looks great lit up. Cute pumpkin container and very realistic colour - what size is that?
  13. I love those glittery snowballs. Have not got up the nerve to do any of those yet and would hate to have to test burn them after all the work that goes into making them!!
  14. Wow, that looks great. Love the colour of the pillar. I sure would love to get a basket filled with goodies like that.
  15. Thanks everyone for your kind comments, I really appreciate it.
  16. Hi CandleMan, I have been testing these with CD wicks and the best burn so far has been CD8. I get a good melt pool for the first few burns, it can tend to collapse the walls a bit, but I have not had any leaks. Finally the points tend to collapse in a bit, but still no spillage. I will try and post a picture of one that has finished burning. Still quite a difficult size to wick and the wick has to be perfectly centered! Thanks for the comment.
  17. Hi there, just a few pics of some candles I made recently, nothing special! I did not know what to expect from the Madagascar Spice scent (from AH/RE), but it is really nice - if you like cloves. The traingles are Satsuma, Macapple, and Biscotti & Dark Chocolate which I blended myself. The other two pillars are Hot Apple Pie. Thanks for looking
  18. Gosh, quite embarrassing, did not even notice the date, just followed the others!! Will take more note next time.
  19. Modge Podge can be purchased from any craft store, try Hobbycraft in the UK. It will be called decoupage lack or Royal Coat Decoupage Finish. Both products are waterbased. Try www.panduro.co.uk.
  20. I recently bought some 'shimmer dust' from Aroma Haven and phoned them to ask for directions on how to apply to a pillar candle. They suggested mixing a bit in with some modge podge and then painting on. Tried this but even though the podge dries clear, it kinda settled in the chunks on the outside of the candle. Just did a search as suggested and saw Donita´s (the queen of glitter) post on using the heat gun. Followed her instructions (made a mess first time), but got it down the second. :highfive: Maybe your Dad could supervise you the first couple of times with the heat gun. It is best if you have a heat gun that has various temp. settings. Try the modge podge, it is not too bad. Good luck.
  21. Very pretty looking mottles and your first "wow". One of the best tips I got off this board when starting was to keep notes of everything, pour temps, colours used etc. So keep on taking notes and making beautiful candles like that.
  22. Hi Wendy, your daughter is right, sometimes less is more. The simplicity of the pictures looks very classy. Love the tins by the way, I think my husband would have a fit if I digressed from making pillars and started on container candles:rolleyes2 Very nice all of them. Sarah
  23. Wow Judy, those are beautiful. You must have some patience to do all those layers. 4 layers is enough for me right now. How long does it take for each layer to set up (about 15 mins or less)? Love the colour combo.
  24. Love those colours, especially the purple ones. Particularly like the way the rustic effect finishes about 3/4 of the way down and then there is a block of that fantastic colour. Well done.
