  1. You need to cool them slowly to reduce the sink holes. I don't get the holes nearly as often as I used to. It's not always a real flat top, but I don't mind. Still get the occasional hole, but the heat gun is a wonderful invention. I haven't tried that much FO but got the holes anyway. Wouldn't hurt to cut back anyway. Why use more if less is just as good? HTH!
  2. The cooler temperature does seem to cause the strange top. It might feel almost spongy if you press on it? I've found the lowest I can pour is 145, maybe 140, just a few degrees cooler and it starts getting weird. Pouring too cool also makes it look as it if hasn't cooled completely on the sides. I always try to pour as soon as everything's mixed in. HTH!
  3. Tera, for best results you'll want to weigh your wax and determine your percentage then weigh your FO. If you don't have a scale yet, it gets a little tricky, but 16 oz of soy wax should not melt down to 8 oz. One pound of melted soy wax is about 18-19 fluid ounces. If you're trying to do it by volume, it would be after the wax is melted. Your results may just not be as consistent as using weight. HTH!
  4. HTPs and LX wicks both go larger. However, I would recommend double wicking your jar. You'd want to start with something smaller than your 62s, though. What's the diameter of your jar and what wicks do you have at your disposal? Might help to know what kind of wax you're using too! Best of luck!
  5. Natasha, I don't make pillars, but I'll see if I can help. You've said you tried ribbons, were you tying them in bows or keeping them flat? I'm picturing a wide grosgrain (ridged) black ribbon just wrapped around the candle and maybe taped somehow on the back. Also, maybe some scrapbook weight paper in a color to go with your theme, cut in a strip, wrapped around candle once with a piece of clear tape. I don't know if you have to worry about wax or oil affecting the paper, as I don't work with pillars.:undecided Maybe if we could see a picture of your pillars or your website, it could provoke more ideas!
  6. Wendy, there's all kind of information already on this site. You can do a search for suppliers, and you'll have more information than you can imagine. The search tool is in the menu bar at the top of your page. Good luck! Just reading some of the more recent posts you'll gain a lot of info too.
  7. Thanks, Vicky! Just checked my wax, and it looks good so far. Not completely cool yet, but doesn't look like anything is in there but wax! I think I caught her on time!
  8. Hi everyone! I intended my first post to be an introduction, but my 2 year-old just changed that. I think she just put some water into my wax! The thing is I'm not certain any actually got in there; she's very quiet. Is there any way to tell if water's in my wax? If there is, it's just a little. Is there anything I can do about it? I could just cry! I'm sure I'll be able to laugh at this later but right now.... Thanks! Amy
