  1. I "second" the serious need for a distributor on the WEST COAST!!!!!! Pretty pleeeez!
  2. I have also found this to be the case with the 464...the hot throw can be good for the first few burns but then diminishes/smells waxy or burnt with subsequent burns. I have tried wicking down but then don't get a decent melt pool. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has noticed this...
  3. Anyone using TW scents in 100% soy? I'm curious to know if they throw well in soy.
  4. Thanks for the advice...I think my wick is small enough...most people who use cd's in 8oz tins use cd12-16 so i think by cd 10 is probabably not too large. I will try curing a little longer and will experiment with the temperature at which to add the scent as well. Thanks again!:rolleyes2
  5. Thanks for the advice...I did test several scents from BCN (Verbena Berry, Lime Leaf and Lily, Basil, Sage & Mint & Vanilla Velvet), all of whom supposely throw well in soy and was somehwat diappointed by all but the Vanilla Velvet (1.5 oz pp). I tried some ICS scents and got some slightly "better" results with Japanese Plum, Raspberry Lemonade and Mango/Papaya but still nothing really GREAT. I will definitely try Mill Creek and Peaks. Maybe I'll hold off on the JS for now. I do wish Peaks had more/unusual scents, though...Oh well!
  6. Thanks!!! I will add these to my list of FO's to try!
  7. Thanks alot...that's just the kind of info I need! I've already checked the "FO's for soy" thread and many of the ones on that list have not thrown well for me which is why I wanted specific info from peoepl who are using (specifically) gw464. Thanks again!
  8. Thanks for the responses but I was hoping for more specific individual scents from folks who have tested them in the gw464:rolleyes2 . Anyone else? 464 users?
  9. I would like to order some samples from Peaks and JS. I am using GW 464 and have not had good luck finding strong (hot) throwers for this wax. I've ordered so far only from ICS and BCN and have only gotten "moderate" throw from a couple/few scents but none I could classify as "strong" or "awesome". Anyone out there using/testing this wax who can steer me to some scents which are truly "strong" hot throwers in the 464? Ironically...the cold throw of this wax is OUTSTANDING and sometimes I feel it is better than the cold throw with most of the scents I've tested (I come home and open the door of my apartment and can smell the cold throw...many times I can't when the candle is burning!). Just as an fyi...I am using 8oz tins (a little over 3" diameter) and I've pretty much decided on using a CD10 wick for most of the scents I'm burning). Thanks in advance...I'm still a soy newbie!!
  10. I "second" the Evo dyes.... I have been using them in the gw464 and most times get NO frosting at all. With deeper colors I sometimes get a little tiny bit of frosting. When I tried (previously) the wax color chips the frosting was out of control!
  11. I "second" the ICS raspberry lemonade...great scent and it threw very well in my GB 464 soy.
  12. Although I did end up puchasing 50lbs from Gateway...still hoping for some distributor west of the Mississippi!!
  13. Yes...I checked out that "master list" too and saw that many of the scents were not listed. That kind of sucks that they are not more "consistent" then with their scents. I'll still probably give them a try, though.
  14. I am confused...I went to Bear's website... and I can't seem to find most of these scents mentioned in previous posts...??? For instance...Where on their website is Coriander and Bergamot or Sandalwood-Rose??? Do they have additional scents that are NOT advertised on the web? I am in California and have been wanting to try them too...but according to their website they dob't have very many scents. Am I missing something?
  15. definitely check out the "testing" thread 1st: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18739 I am still working on wicking and scents but the one tip i would give is to use the EVO liquid dyes...little to no frosting, even with rich, dark colors. I got fierce frosting when i used the "regular" wax chip dyes. You can get the EVO dyes off of eBay through the "Bayou Candle Company" relatively inexpensively and with the dropper bottles. Regarding wicking: I am liking the CD's & HTP's...I will probabaly decide on one of those. HTH!!!:rolleyes2
  16. That chart is interesting...for some reason my cd 14 is burning "better"/hotter than the htp 105...I was thinking it would be the opposite (like the chart indicates). I guess that's why you always have to TEST, test, test...
  17. Hmmmm...this all sounds interesting but now FRUSTRATING!! I am currently burning an HTP 105 in one candle and a CD14 in another and the HTP has smaller melt pool but SEEMS to have better throw. The CD has a perfect melt pool and burn (the HTP seems a little less "strong" of a burn) but seems to have the inferior throw. This sucks!
  18. I am test-burning 2 identical candles (same wax, same container, same scent, poured at the same time) except for the wick...both have been burning with a very similar diameter melt pool, yet...one seems to have better (hot) scent throw. It was always my understanding that wick has nothing to do with scent throw...its all about the melt pool. Is this correct? I guess its possible that the scent didn't mix completely in the wax and one candle "got more". Any ideas?
  19. I haven't ordered from them recently since i'm just starting out with soy but back when I used to do paraffin, I ordered from Steve often...great scents and good customer service.
  20. I'm located in the SF Bay area, just south of SF. I've just gotten back into candles after several years and am just starting with soy (have decided on the GW 464). From what you all have said, I may just pass on this supplier...too many other good one's out there!!! I just placed a "sample" order with ICS and I think Peaks is next! Thanks again! Lili
  21. Hi!! I live in No. California and this company is the closest one to me and I might even be able to pick up orders! Can anyone recommend good fragrances which throw well in soy? I already did a search and there is not much written on them...Thanks in advance! Lili
  22. I am using GW 464 and am still testing wicks...tried the ECO but so far have liked the CD's better...am still deciding between the CD 16 and 14. I'm about to test HTP's as well. I also ordered samples of the "700 series" too but I haven't received them. I have gotten a full melt pool easily and (maybe too) quickly with the CD16 and 14 (a little hang up with the first couple of burns) but I didn't have as much problem with mushrooms as i did with the Eco's. I have a feeling I'll end up with the CD's.
  23. I just started making soy candles and first used the wax chips/flakes and got terrible frosting on 2 different waxes...Golden 435 and 464. I tried the EVO liquid dye and now I don't even get a HINT of frosting. You can get them inexpensively and already with the dropper tops from Bayou Candle Company on E-bay...I highly recommend these dyes! The only downfall is that there is not a big range of colors and i can see having to do some "mixing" to get certain colors. Good luck.
  24. I used dye chips/flakes at first and got alot of frosting too...I switched to the EVO liquid and now I get NO frosting at all! However, the set ups after the first few burns look awful (lumpy, craters, etc)...then after several burns, the tops set up pretty smooth again...go figure???
