  1. I personally hate gardenia but I had a lot of customers asking for it so I tried Peaks and its sold really well. I use J300 and it has a nice throw too! Never tried the magnolia though! HTH!
  2. The apple cinnamon is PERFECT...not too appley and not too spicey! I use paraffin too.
  3. I use 1.5 oz hex jars for mine. I haven't figured out a way to transport them around yet but I'm workin on it!
  4. I started out using mostly BitterCreek but as I got to exploring and found other great suppliers I've cut down to only a few of their scents. As for Just Scent, they are my pick HANDS DOWN! I am currently going through and switching everything I can over to Becky. She has THE BEST customer service IMO of any one in this business that I have delt with, on top of her GREAT prices, and SUPER fast service. The shipping was also cheaper for me through her. I used to use Astorlite V and I never had a problem with any of her oils. Ok that's my two cents! Good luck with who ever you go with! They are both really good companys! Callie
  5. That is very nice! Would you be able to put your scent name in the middle there in the purple bubble? I really like it!
  6. I just made t-shirts last weekend with my laser printer using ink jet paper. I know it probably wasn't the brighest thing I've done but they turned out just fine! What happened when you did yours? Oh and thanks for posting this cuz no where around me carries them for lasers either.
  7. I just did a smaller show this weekend and took $40 and it was waaay too much. So I would say for you like $50 or $75 would suffice. I always carry an extra $20 in ones just in case for back up. I always run out of ones! Good luck!
  8. Check out the Candle Cauldron website. That's where I got all my fundraiser info. Also, you may want to go to the Archives and do a search on the old site. There is TONS of info over there. Good Luck! Callie
  9. Well I don't do layers but I did switch from using J223 to J300 and boy am I a happy camper! I personally, have noticed no difference in hot or cold throw or burn times. It is so much easier to work with (like getting it out of the box!) and there are NO wet spots! I will never go back to J223. I have had no problems what so every with the 300 and I didn't even have to change wicks either! So have fun experimenting! Callie
  10. I've been pouring for my show this weekend and a fundraiser order and it hasn't effected me. I think I'm the only one! LOL! My shop is in my basement and it stays cool down there year round. Now the upstairs is where its warm! Even with the AC set at 73 it got up to 78 in the house yesterday. Thank God its supposed to cool down this weekend for my show!
  11. Hello, I go to school full time, work part time, do candles part time, and I am planning a wedding full time! LOL! Seriously though, I would definately keep a part time job. I am lucky that I live with my fiance and he has an excellent job so he pays for most of the bills. However, I still have my own to pay and I help him out too so I need a part time job. Mine is great though, I am off on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I can focus more on candles (and my upcoming wedding) or if I need more hours I can work those days. I am just now to the point where the money I am making off of candles is supporting my candles. It used to be that I was spending as much of my $$ as I could on candles but I just got a HUGE fundraiser so I've been able to stock up on supplies. As for craft shows, like everyone said they come with expenses. I am doing on this weekend and that will be it for me until after my wedding in October, but thats the busy season so I will be diving right back into it. Try doing home shows too. They can be an excellent source of income and there's no booth fee! I completely agree with what everyone has said so good luck!
  12. Dat has a good point about the FOs. If you have a black cherry, just fib and say oh its a new cherry I found for you. It'll save you the headache. Or you can charge the set up fee. I would definately make some sample candles and not let her smell OOB. I know how many of mine don't smell so good OOB but smell great in wax.
  13. Yes, even though we are "partners" so to speak and friends, you bet your life she's signin a contract! This girl can be a little flakey, like one day shes up my butt about doing this that and the other, and the next day, when I need her, you can't get ahold of her. I will always make anyone I do business with sign a contract. Just make it out when you tell them that its for their protection, like if God forbid she's not happy with your work or you just fall off the face of the earth (not that you will do this but everyone is safe all around with a contract IMO), then she has something to hold against you and vice versa. What if two months until the wedding she decides to cancel her order or whatever...you are protected this way. As for the cherry FO, try a wild cherry. I personally use black cherry, but just get a few samples, rebottle them and label them just cherry and she will never know the difference. Take it from a crazy bride! LOL!
  14. Well, one of my friends started her own wedding/event planning business and we have partnered so I will do favors and any candles that she needs. I am going to do some favors for her for an anniversary party. I am doing the shot glass type votive holders & filling them with wax. I did give her a "deal" since it is her parent's party that they are for, however I am making sure I get some profit too. What I did was got all the numbers from her and what she wants, then I worked up a quote for her, sent it to her for her to approve, she did and now I am making a contract saying that she will pay for half up front (so I can order my supplies) and then half when they are delivered. I am getting married myself in October so I pretty much knew what the going rate was for candle favors, and I made sure to be cheaper than that. So my advice is find out exactly what she wants, how many, and then price everything and come up with the figure you want. I would DEFINATELY make them sign a contract, that way just in case, you are covered. HTH!
  15. Hey guys, I don't know about the rest of the Michael's but mine has all glass votive holders (flowerpots, etc) on sale 2/$1 this week. Check your local Michael's!
  16. Liz, you crack me up! There will be no kids! LOL! All my children will have 4 legs
  17. LOL! Bunny! I know it! I really wanted to meet you all too! Definately count me in for next year though!
  18. Well guys, I don't think I'm gonna be able to go to the conference. I have been crunching the numbers and I think I really need to use that money for supplies for the upcoming busy season. SO you guys go and have fun and I will definately plan on going next year!
  19. I got a Dell color laser printer for Christmas and cannot live without it! I was using an all in one ink jet from dell but when you but my ink jet labels beside the laser ones....you can't believe the difference! If you can afford it...go laser. I print TONS of stuff, and have had my printer since Xmas 04 and the ink has just now dropped right below being full!
  20. I use J300. It is very comparable to J223, which is what I started out using, but no wet spots! WOOHOO!
  21. Aww Trish! We would have had so much fun as roomies! Ok I am still an orphan! All the rooms are booked! Looks like I'll be sleeping by the pool! LOL! I swear I don't snore & only drool a lil? Any takers?? hehe I'm deperate!
  22. I'm still looking for a roomie(s) if anyone has a floor I can sleep on! LOL!
