  1. If I had been in the 'buff' the other night my hubby would have been calling 911 for sure and for certain...was trying to do a layered candleand had the layers going from one side to another...the candle decided to fall...1 1/2 lbs of palm wax all over me and the floor...they are now designated 'candle clothes'
  2. As I read your post I thought of the first time I got wax on something worse than that my clothes...in my washer!!! So take heart....clothes can be washed, ironed and other things...I did manage to get the wax out...after hours of scraping and about standing on my head in order to get in the inside of the washer...
  3. I have used the RRD's with a combo of J223/Soy-125 and they work extremely well...they curl nicely and have a good flame...
  4. I agree with Pam...each person here has their own different 'recipe' for making tarts aswell asmaking jars.etc..you have to go with what fits you...try out a few tarts in one type on a few friends...then perhaps purchase a small amt of another kind of wax and try again...
  5. I just went through the same thing over the last couple of days...here's is what I did and it worked for me...if it is not completely cold take the mold and put it in a water bath right up to the top of the mold for 5 min...I used a timer to be sure of the time..after the first couple of times I removed the mold seal and gently but firmly pushed on the bottom...I spaced the cool water baths a hour apart..if the mold is cold to the touch try putting in the 'fridge for a little while...don't go tapping on the mol with anything heavy (don't ask me how I know)
  6. I too have been buying lots of 1 and 2 (and sometimes larger) oz from here...and so far my favs are Just Scents,Candle Cocoon, and Bittercreek. Becky at Just Scent is awesome to work with. I was looking for a particular FO that they had d/c and were revamping. She looked to see if she had any of the orginal left and she did....gave it to me at the d/c price and we are talking a full 16 oz! Lyschel at Candle Cocoon is just as good. She will work with you and help you get what you need.
  7. Ditto on that one!!! I had found them in the Michaels store close to home...bought a Fo..took it home...opened the bottle..smelled it...tossed it down the sink...and that is the end of that!!!!:rolleyes2
  8. Yup...heated the molds, heated the tarts, made sure the temp was 200....poured the first group...vola! no air bubbles! Thought I had it down.... Second group....same thing...BUT air bubbles...grrrrrrr third group the same....HOWEVER I noticed that both these groups were sitting on uneven surfaces (I have converted my laundry room into my candle room and using the tops of my washer/dryer as surfaces;) ) After the first group finished I moved the other two groups...poked and repoured...no problem...sheech
  9. Thanks I am going to try that! Scented, I am going to work on that one and see which of the two looks the best...I have been working on it all weekend...getting more frustrated by the minute...so I stepped away from it today and re-grouping....
  10. No...I did not know to do them either...thanks.:highfive: ..am going to pour some now..am definately going to watch the temp, heat the molds and poke the molds!!!
  11. Well it sure pays to be a member of this great forum! I have been using the Palm wax for my votives and tarts...but did not know the part about heating up the molds...OR the fact that the wax should be heated that high as I had been heating it only to 160...DUH!!! I was wondering why I was getting air bubbles in some of my votives and not in others (I am using Palm 2). Back to the drawing board for me.....>>>>:rolleyes2
  12. Hi there and welcome to the group!!! I too am new and also from PA...and I started out with a Presto Pot from Wal-mart. That other kit is not worth your money, trust me on that one!!! The folks here are great to help you with answering questions and there is a lot on the old board that you can learn a lot from...the more I do and read, the more I need to learn... If there is anyway I can help give me a shout!
  13. I have used the Palm 2 wax and the Enclanted Lites for pillars and I love both of them! The Palm comes out with a real snowflake-y like top which I like and the Lites are real smooth. Both come out for me with just a turn over of the mold.
  14. Just got some new molds of orange pear peach and strawberry that I am going to be flirting with...also attempting to working on getting my star mold down for the special candle for my brother...as well as testing my new key lime pie candle and mulled cider candles I made last night.....
  15. My brother is retiring from the Navy after serving for 30 yrs on the 8th of next month and I was wanting to make him a special candle. I have a star mold, but instead of making a one color candle I wanted to make one with layers...but not one on top of each other but vertical layers one red one white and one blue...I looked for pics of one but did not see any...and when I do make this candle I was thinking of using just one FO so as not to clash the fragrances...any help here would be appreciated!
  16. I use the presto pot myself..actually have 2...my husband retro-fitted both of my pots in the manner that is shown in the section on this forum about that...it sure beats having to either ladel it out or pouring it out of the pot itself!
  17. Wow!!! Great job! I just unmolded my first pillar and it did not look half that good...great job...I too use the palm wax and love how it comes out of the tart and votive mold!
  18. I just started using Cargil C-3 for containers...works just great! It's a good one pour and the FO load is 7%...I use dye blocks from BCS and CC...I heat it to about 180 and then put my FO in...was using a blend of J223/Soy 125 and that is great too!
  19. I just visited a candle maker here in Door County WI and she showed me around her site... I asked her about that very issue...she does jars candles exclusively...and she took out her heat gun and zapped them before she poured about 9 of the jars...they were not hot, but warmed just a bit...I had looked at all her jars...did not see any with spots.
  20. Welcome! There are lots of people here who will help you along the way...:highfive:
  21. I have Post-it notes where I have the date, wax type, FO, wick type, and dye....then I transfer it to my PDA...then to my computer so I have 2 copies of it.
  22. Hi there and welcome to the world of candle making! I just started as well, but have learned a lot by reading through the old board postings. I now have 2 presto pots...what I have found works for me is I got a digital scale from Wal-Mart (27 bucks) and then weighed my wax on it. If you look in the basic instructions section part here it will walk you through some of it. Make sure you have a candy thermomter, which you can also get from Wal-Mart (4.95) Depending on what kind of wax you have it will (or should have) told you how hot to melt it to. Then add your liquid dye (or if you are using blocks put the dye in when you start the wax melting) When it gets to the right temp, turn it off, add your FO and pour. At least that is what has works for me. I got all of that from the old message boards. Enjoy
