  1. Where did you get your FO from??? Have a friend (as well as me) who would love to have a few containers made with that.
  2. I started out thinking I would do a few container candles just to see if I would like to do this...this was at the end of March of this year...NOW...oh boy...I have 2 Presto pots, tart molds out the wazoo, FO's, wicks,wax,etc,etc,etc... My husband just shakes his head and grins. ..my laundry room barely resembles a laundry room...he put in 4 overhead shelves, a 4 rack metal shelf...I conficated his heat gun and some of his tools. .. Welcome to the group:yay:
  3. Well we are going on vacation Monday to Door County WI...I am picking up lots of goodies from Candle Coccon (sp)? as they are in Madison...then we are going to RI to see my husband's brother...Candlewic is on the way so I am picking up my wax and the we are passing the Jar Store on I-95 so we are picking up my jars and I am going to try some of their wax... However...during 'normal' times I would drive to Candlewic as they are only 4 hrs away and I would saving a ton on S&H and the Candle Source is only 3 hours away...even with gas prices the way they are I would still save...
  4. I have been using the dye blocks...it seems to me that you can control the color better...and I put the dye block(s) in with my wax as it melts, that way if I need it to be darker I can always shave more into my wax to get the color I desire:grin2:
  5. I couldnt help but laugh...I could just see myself doing the same thing... As I am just starting out, I was using the Palm 2 for tarts and was wondering if J223/soy mix would work...and I saw a post here that refers to that...hmmm I will try that out after we get back from vacation
  6. I am using a blend of J223 and Soy 125 for my containers and I love how it looks in the jar
  7. WOW...first the bear..now the rabbits....awesome....great pics....I really did like the bear tho!
  8. Thanks Donita and all for your responses. I did not like the looks of Yaley's dye blocks...they just looked...for lack of a better term...icky ...lol... I have settled on Candlewic's J223 and Soy 125 mix for the containers and their Palm 2 and 3 for the votives and tarts, not only since they are so close and I can save on S&H BIG time...but its not that far away if I needed more I could just drive there...lol:yay: The dye blocks it looks like BCN as I have been using them and it looks like they are doing well for me...love their wick stickems! After a time I will get brave and go with the liquid dye, but I want to get more comfortable with the other first.
  9. Initially it was my 'intention' to dabble...yeah well... I be dabbleing...votives,tarts,jars...just found that my 'dabbling' was just what I was suppossed to be doing all along...I was trying to do many things, but nothing was working...I literally 'fell' into this thanks to a couple of really great CT'ers (thanks to chickie and moonrose) when moonrose sent me a couple of candles...well...that was that...I HAD to see what this was all about...and I am sure glad I did!
  10. I have been getting my wax from Candlewic also Donita. I have found that as a greenhorn I have learned from all of you just what is and is not good product. I was very skeptial of Yaley as I had not heard anything being mentioned about it. When the salesperson looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked her what kind of wax it was I was skeptial of ANYTHING that had the name. I am fast learning that this is something I really want to pursue as I can show my God-given creativity in a way that can be enjoyed by a large number of people and the last thing I want to have is sub-standard material...of ANY kind! Thanks to you all for being here for me and I am sure many others.... Jody
  11. When I looked at their prices they were asking for the wax and what I was getting from the supplier...even with the S&H I was better off using the supplier...
  12. brand of candle making anything...from wax to FO's to dyes...I went to the local Michaels and down to the our Yarn and Darn and Jo-Ann Fabrics and the brand name is all over the place...they have slabs of wax there...but it did not give what kind of wax it was and when I asked at the counter, they looked at me liked I had 3 heads...one of the containers even boasted that you could microwave the wax ...I didnt purchase any of the stuff...but I was just wondering if anyone had heard of them...
  13. Im so glad I found this one...as a newbie this would be fabulous!!! I am seriously considering this as I dont live that far away!!
  14. Well I am going to be playing with my newly acquired FO's, some Palm wax to make some tarts, votives and some jar candles:D ...then I 'may' clean house:smiley2: ...don't have to worry about cooking as it is hubby's turn to cook and he is a great cook:yay:
  15. I have gone from doing just one small set of container candles at the end of last month....now my laundry room is hardly recognizable..there are candles EVERYWHERE!!!! Big candles, little candles, tarts, votives:D FO's, all kinds of waxes, wicks, and containers of all shapes and sizes:cool2: ...my hubby just shakes his head and smiles.... thanks to the many CT'ers out there who helped me by listening to my many ?'s, and getting supplies from to start out with. Now all I have to do is get the candles good enough for people to purchase them...but that is a way down the road. I figure I should be good enough for people to purchase them by Christmassantalol
  16. Sounds like a great idea to me! As a newbie just getting started, that would be an immense help...count me in!
  17. Could you send it to me too??? counselingrus@comcast.net Thanks!!!
  18. I saw somewhere on here (maybe on the old board) to use clothespins to center the wick while it sets up...low cost, low tech...but hey it works!!!
  19. at candle making did not turn out too bad.. I started out with a half pound of J223 and Soy125 with peach blossom dye block and j&j bathtime scent...got all excited and almost forgot to put the scent in... had 2 small round containers and 2 hex ones...held up the wick with a clothespin...those wick stickems really hold I dont think I got the glass warm enough cause when I went back in an hour or so..it looked like...well I guess the only way to describe it would be streaked on the inside...not bad, but not good...ok that was Friday...my hubby and Iwent to Michaels Saturday and I picked up a votive kit...I figured if nothing else I would get an extra pour pot and thermometor...the kit comes from Candlewic! So I made 6 votives... my hubby is very supportive of what I am doing...every time we go by anything glass he says 'Honey this would look good as a candle'...I have purchased a number of FO's from a CT'er who is local to me and my hubby likes this particular scent when I asked him to smell it...so today I made Lunchberg Lemonade:thumbsup:
  20. I have amassed all the wax, FO's (thanks to a few here on CT who have been so helpful with this greenhorn ), dye blocks, and a retro-fitted presto pot, which is,as we speak, being checked for leaks by having water in it for about 2 hrs now...sooooooo:D if you happen to see someone crying over their presto pot...or a post from this person crying...have pity pls????
