  1. which is easier? the oil or the powder? Was wondering for ease of use.....ok shoot me bunny......I didnt' see it at wsp, and I am gonna be placing an order with them so I will try it from there for now. But I am gonna be ordering from sdf too so......Don't plan on ordering from bb yet, but I will if the oil is easier to use. Let me know! Thanx bunches
  2. Where do you all purchase this from? Havent' seen it anywhere :undecided Found some TD clay at SFarms, is this the same type that you use to make white soap?
  3. How do you display them when they are naked? Wondering for at craft shows. Are you using a large type container like you would think you would of found at an old icecream type shop? Wondering on the naked soaps too. Guess I was just curious how you stopped the customers from picking up a soap that is naked, then putting it back cuz they decided not to buy
  4. Those are actually 3 different displays that are set back to back. The straight shelves is 2 seprerate ones and the one in the corner is also. This is so you can arrange them the way that you want. If you know of anyone that makes wood then you simply put hinges on the sides so they fold in, and put hinges on the shelves so they fold up. Be sure to put something on the leg to "lock" the shelves in place. I wouldn't recommend having the shelves just sit there. I would lock them in so that way it would add some stability! Designing you own is fairly easy, and you can design it anyway that you choose!
  5. Avery design works great too! And you can put stuff where exactly you want it!
  6. Yes! Definately let me know how it goes......is that plexiglass as dividers? Was wondering how that would work for a mold.....wasn't sure how well it would hold up. Never thought about using it as dividers, was mostly thinking about using it for all of it. Does soap stick to it, or would you not have to line. Definately interested in your results though!!!
  7. Thanx guys! I see that size isn't uniform so to speak. We each like our own size for specific reasons! I am with Robin on the 3.5 inches though, I think I like the longer bars much better than the thinner bars. Thinking that maybe a mold that is a cross between a slab and log mold may be ideal. Maybe get the best of both worlds......
  8. What is your ideal soap size? Not ounces so much as inches......I am seeing a variety of mold sizes out there, and I notice that the slab sizes are much smaller than the log sizes. I made a few log molds, and went off of the first one I got (Thanx Mystical ) but trying to figure out if there are bigger slab sizes out there and what is the ideal size? I am thinking that I like the larger bars, the one that I have makes a bar that is almost 4 inches long, then I can go as high as I want depending on how many pound used. Got a slab and its bars are only like 2 x 3 or something like that. Is that a normal size? If so, that is a little small I am thinking! I like much bigger So anyone have any recommendations for someone wanting to tinker with making their own
  9. Those look awesome! I love the unique colors that you have got goin on
  10. Thanx bunches! That sure does help alot! I am gonna play around with some fo's that I have on hand here in the next few days, and don't wanna deal with the whole batch seizing like I have already had the problem with. Grrr, it drives me nuts. But when you are first starting and going with scents that you already have on hand, it sure does test your nerves
  11. When testing fo's to find out if they seize or rice on ya. How much difference does the recipe make? If you are not using the exact same recipe yet, but tweeking it, does that majorly affect the seizing? Wanna test some fo's in some dixie cups like how maybe Bunny suggested. Just wandering if it will actually help. Just don't wanna screw up whole batches majorly with having a seize :tiptoe: Thanx bunches for any help!
  12. Do you have to know the html code? Cuz I really suck at that, but would like to stay away from frames........
  13. Those look awesome! Wonderful way to swirl that! I bet they smell as good as they look!
  14. Very nice! I love the swirls! Very pretty greens, I really like the different tones!
  15. I am curious to see how someone can get an accurate reading on scent throw from just a sample. I have poured many "samples" that didn't throw well, but once I wicked up, they were out of this world! So how are any of you getting an accurate reading by just testing a 1 oz sample? I am curious as can be......maybe I am doing something wrong :undecided I try to give each fragrance every chance that I can before I ditch it, which includes wicking up or down. Do others do this too, or do you all just pitch it if it doesn't work with your normal wick size:confused:
  16. So for Indiana, is the full gross sales, the whole amount the group sells for each candle, or only the amount paid to you? I don't see how you can pay taxes on 8.00 for each item sold, if the group is only paying you 4.00. At that point, here in Ohio, they have to claim their own income on the money that they kept. I agree, it is very confusing. The one group that I did was for a non profit soccer team, but they did not have their exempt number. The group I am just starting is for a relay for life team. The American Cancer and Relay group will not give out their exempt number, so teams are not able to use it. It bites, but they do it this way cuz too many peeps were taking advantage of it. Hope everything works out for ya, and your fundraiser is great!
  17. I am registered and will be there on Friday nite! I can't wait!!!!
  18. Sara, that is gorgeous! I can't wait to try it! I am so excited about getting to try different soaps!
  19. I was on one side of Kim, and Jeff was on the other. I *think* I may know who you are now, but will have to wait until this year to be sure, lol! I can't wait:yay:
  20. I went thru this myself last year, and am getting ready to do it this year. I have did a few small fundraisers that were tax exempt, that is easy, lol! For the ones that are NOT tax exempt, it got a hair confusing. I offer a 50% profit, and they had to pay sales tax. I hope I explain this correctly. From my understanding, you don't charge sales tax on the whole amount. For mine, the candles sold for 8.00, and they got 4.00 profit. They only had to pay taxes on the 4.00, cuz that is all that is coming to me. Then it was the organizations responsibility to turn in and pay sales tax if needed on the rest. So if it is 7% sales tax, then the group pays me 4.00 + .28 for 4.28. It then takes their profit down to 3.72 for each candle sold. The one I worked with in the past was fine with this, and the one that I am getting ready to do for the relay for life understands this also. They still come out ahead, but also deal with the taxes at the same time. I hope this made sense.
  21. So you were in front of us? I am trying to remember......Kim may have to refresh my memory, lol! Georgia, depending on if dh comes or not, I will have room in my room if he doesn't come! A king size and a sleeper sofa
  22. Mine is somewhat the same as Robins (I think, lol). Take mine to a CPA, he took all my receipts. I have different categories: Money in, supplies (wax, wicks, fo's, colors, butters, oils) packaging (jars, containers, labels, bags) Materials (items needed for buisness that don't leave, like printer, molds, computer, shelving costs) Then I also do seperate categories for what I paid to have items shipped in, and what I paid to ship out. I give him these receipts (already tallied on paper) and he does his magic, lol! Now that I think about it, he mentioned something about a "ghost" invetory. And looking at my taxes, it seems that he did do that. However, the back of my sheet is empty. What I believe he did was estimated how much I had left at the end of the year. He said that right now, I don't have to invetory, however it may be beneficial in the future if your profit is too much. For those that were wondering about a loss. From my understanding, your items sold, shipping paid in & out, materials (items that stay with you-these depriciate) rentals (booth fees and such) a portion of your utility bills (phone, internet, trash, electric, heat) and your mileage, all go up and are compared to what you spent and have on hand. I put a ton of miles on my van, and it really showed up on taxes.
  23. Had my room for a few days now.....and they were out of doubles then! But they are offering a king size with sleeper sofa!!
  24. Oh you are so wicked, lol! The other ones that were screwed up was because I used contaminated (with soap) water, not cuz of the discounted water! I am not discounting much at all, and honestly, the recipe, even with the fo, would of been fine if I wasn't so intent on getting the swirls figured out And the one that I am working on is the same base one, just changing a few percentages
  25. Is there a tutorial somewhere for this? Or could someone tell me what to do? I made a batch of soap, and like a dummy (yeah I know :rolleyes2 ) It was a new recipe, and I didn't use the full water. Plus used a fragrance that I wanted to try. Not sure why it seized up on me, but lordy, did it! I had to mush it in like crazy, and although I am not getting a zap, I have some oils coming off of it. So I wanna try my hand at rebatching. Does it have to be shredded? Can I just cut it up? Do I add the water that I never added at the beginning? Or do you add more? What happens if you need to rebatch one that you used full water on. I guess I am just trying to figure out how much you know to use. Do I have to add anything else to it?
