  1. thanks for the alternatives Top! Gonna have to start testing/trying those....I love me some 6228 and hate having to change but I also hate having to call everyone looking for wax that will be impossible to find! Appreciate your help Debbie
  2. WSP just told me that OK 6228 is no longer available as it isn't being made any longer.....then I spoke with Carolina Candle Supply and she had some - so I ordered from her but it seems as if it may be time to change pillar wax... For those of you (and Fern comes to mind?) who used to use 6228, have any suggestions as to a good pillar wax to replace it with? I really like the 6228 and would rather not change, but if I am gonna have trouble getting it in the future, then would like to start testing some other. Thanks for the help.... Debbie
  3. OMG - I absolutely love it! That is such a hoot! Deb hope you had a wonderful time - sounds like you all did! We are getting ready for the Texas conference and since it is my 1st I am not sure what to expect....thanks for the (very) brief glimpse from you all!! Don't know whether to be scared or excited.....lol:p Debbie
  4. lmao - not sure how high that price is but for a while I was thinking there were folks to do it fo free..... This conference is gonna be fun! Can't wait!
  5. Lord I am getting so confused....maybe we should bring those guys to do a 'scratching' seminar....lol and hula dancing?? should I bring my grass skirt? No problems with the duct tape - I will be happy to share some tips! OK well my room is booked under my 'real' name maybe one of you all could pm me with your real names and I will call the hotel to see if they will get us close together or adjoining? Or pm me and I will give you my real name (since I am on the shit list of some folks here I would prefer not to mention it in this post - who knows - if they want me banned maybe they are crazy enough to want to "take me out" lmao:laugh2: ) OK - I was able to get some extra lye and palm kernal flakes (thanks to tbear) - Does anyone want any? The lye will be $1.25 per pound - if anyone wants some pm me to let me know and I will bag it up....(Bunny I got yours already). Debbie
  6. Bunny I tried to call you again - no answer - now that you are in the big city you never stay home....lol I made reservations at the comfort inn - you know I am anal and must make plans in advance....lol anyhow I asked if the rooms were in a block or a certain area all together - no they are all over the hotel...so if we knew names we could request adjoining or close to each other rooms...I asked the clerk I spoke with if he knew Scented or Sherry or Anita and he told me I needed last names..... So maybe we should talk and see if we can get our rooms close together - and we won't disturb the folks who are there to sleep.... Debbie
  7. If it is pillars you are talking about, could be the wax was too hot??
  8. Is this the place in San Diego? If so, yes I have used them to buy soap making stuff (oils, butters) and used just a couple of their fo's....was not overly impressed with fo - nice but nothing exciting.... Oils and butters were good.....but I do think there are cheaper places :rolleyes2
  9. I'm in for the White Elephant and must try some of that punch!! Do we know which hotel we will be staying in? WOuld like to make reservations before it gets too late.....maybe we can get a block? Did you already tell me someone was gonna do that? Debbie PS - Bunny I stayed up late last night just to call and make sure life was good ..... Doug said you all were sleeping!! hmmmmmmm Debbie
  10. I have poured and tested almost all of the 'juice bar' scents - with J223 zince wicks and 1 oz pp, and find they are great! What is up with everyone using so much fo? I keep reading about folks using 1.25 or 1.5 oz pp or even higher.....If I can't get a good throw with 1 oz pp wax, I hardly ever use the fo.....it is just not worth it for me. Maybe it has to do with using soy? Anyhow, some of my favorites are: Raspberry Rainbow Passion Berry Melonade Be A Peach Spiced Mulberry Berry Fullfilling Winterberry Debbie
  11. So another person contacted her and she responded to him (about your problem) and not you??!! That would seriously piss me off! Anyhow, I would at the least strain the oil to get the floaties out - can't imagine buying a candle (and especially not a b&b product) that had 'floaties' - and I don't think you could convince me it was ok - I would think it would look dirty? Jordon's oil had cocoa in it, the description on the site said it would disolve when heated but you tried heating your fo and said that didn't work...doesn't that make you wonder? IMO, at the very least strain it - then test it and see what happens?? If you are happy with the results then no worries......
  12. I keep my fo's in my cupboard (on an inside wall) - the room is air conditioned so it keeps pretty cool (especially when it hits the 100 mark on the thermometer!).....however............ I keep most of my butters and oils in the refrigerator - helps extend the shelf life (hmmmmm....must have read that somewhere ) and find my butters do get rather soft when I leave them out... I buy some things in quantity, so like RBO I freeze (read that here also!) But with that being said, I also have an extra refrigerator in my 'candle/soap room so keeping supplies in the refrigerator is no problem. If I kept my fo's refrigerated, I would need a couple more refrigerators :rolleyes2 ! If your basement stays pretty cool I wouldn't worry (you mention that it does but then you wonder about the summer so I'm wondering?) - but if it gets warm in the summer, I would move my fo's to an area in the house that does stay cool.
  13. I have only known vanilla to crystallize - may be wrong but I have at least 200 different fo's from several different companies and have never had 'floaties' before (except in calming waters from JS). While I don't doubt Becky's response, I also have many eo's (bought from EOU and several other well - known places) and none of them have raw material in them either. Perhaps it is the types I buy but only a very few people have ever even mentioned 'floaties' and what I don't understand, is no one else has mentioned that type of fragrance (Fantasia de Cioccolata) with that type of problem. No one else on this board has the Fantasia de Cioccolata? And if so, what are you seeing in your bottle? And finally, has Becky not yet responded to you via email? If not, I would certainly try to call her. I have always found her to be very responsive rather quickly so perhaps your email to her got lost in 'email hell'??
  14. She had suggested to me that I strain the oil.....but I decided just not to use it. Although others have said 1) they never had 'floaties' in calming waters, or 2) it did not bother them I just wondered if one didn't strain the oil, if those 'floaties' would ignite? I know they are small but....I don't think I would use it with the floaties! And what you have described does not sound like vanilla crystals....imo
  15. Melon Berry Tea makes an awesome soap! cp'd and still nice and fragrant after 6 months or so.... One of my favorites for soap!
  16. Would be curious to hear about this - I also have a fo from JS that had the 'floaty stuff' although not vanilla crystals - full of fugly junk that Becky said was 'normal' - her response to me was this: calming waters is very heavy and almost 100% pure. there are over 8 essential oils in this product. what you are seeing is natural raw materials. the sediment will not disappear as it is the natural raw materials you see floating. I have a bottle I use for my own personal use that the bottom is solid brown/black. sometimes it is very green. you also probably see some seeds floating in there as well. it's all good. we sell too much of this product. I am always on top of my oils and I would never compromise my customer's in any way. I check every drum in and I check as each drum gets poured. I had suggested when she had an oil with these 'properties' that perhaps she might want to mention it on her description so people don't freak out when they get their oil.
  17. At the feed store they sell 1 pound scoops.....I use them for my horse feed but I guess you could use them for salts - kinda big tho....Maybe they have smaller ones but I never paid attention! Also a kitchen store might have something like you are looking for?
  18. the only 2 on your list that work for me are the vanilla buttercream and the grapefruit vanilla.....I have tried them both in J223 (no mix) and the GL 70/30 with zinc wicks - not nose hair burners but are very popular....I have tried the Perfect Pear and Romantic but they did not work for me so I sold them in the classifieds.... Cel is right tho....if you haven't put them in wax, it is difficult to judge the true scent oob - on the other hand, I don't believe I have had any scents that smelled bad oob (or light) that worked once in wax....but I still try them all! Out of testing about 50 just scents fo's, I have found only 3 or 4 that are strong/true enough for me.....And unfortunately, due to something the owner of JS did to one of our members (a customer service issue at the least), I will find replacements for the few that I did continue to purchase. Debbie
  19. www.teachsoap.com is a very good source for information regarding pricing.....and info for anyone interested ..... expecially good for newbies but I always learn something when I find a new site.....:rolleyes2 Debbie
  20. I also just received a sample of this....oob I thought omg its awesome....never smelled the plastic smell - I have a tuberose from OT that I soaped and was not very happy with the smell - never really came back even after 6 weeks and oob was weak (imo).....but I digress....put this in J223 in the half pint jelly jar with zinc wick (last night)and am burning it now....it smells just like the flower imo - I absolutely love it! The cold throw was nice and the hot throw is fantastic! I am gonna order a pound to put in soap and b&b stuff......if anyone soaps it please let us know what/how it does..... Debbie
  21. Already sent in my $$ - and the white elephant sounds fun - I'm in! Bunny I am coming by on Wednesday - gonna twist your arm since I missed the foo foo punch last time! (BTW - can you meet me on Wednesday? I'll call you - after 9 lol) Still no hotel info?? Anyone got any ideas about hotels? Debbie
  22. I don't see anything wrong with posting the name of the company here - especially if you have tried to resolve this with them and they have not resolved to your satisfaction. I also would be interested in knowing about a company that does business like this. $15.50 for a 2 oz plastic bottle of fo is wayyyyyyyyy to expensive and not right! Save the rest of us from making the same mistake!
  23. Oils differ greatly in cost - I use meadowfoam seed, babbasu, morwah butter, sometimes emu, shea, cocoa, and many others that aren't available locally to me - and not only do the oils cost quite a bit, shipping is high also and for a while lye was pretty expensive - still is not as cheap as I would like but.... I never figured out what it cost for a 3# batch (because I don't sell much) and because if I ever really knew I would probably stroke Guess I didn't answer your question, but soap, like anything else, differs in cost to make because of the ingredients. Debbie
