  1. I just wrote a whole book for you and tried to post and it said my message was too short??? wtf Anyhow...... If you are talking about cp soap, imo it is easy and allows you the ability to be very creative (see the post on Bunny's cucumber/avocado/mayonaise soap ) or be very simple. Robin has done an awesome tutorial on cp soap making which pretty much takes you by the hand and goes step by step! As long as you follow safety measures I am sure you could make soap and keep your children! lol.....But with all things, you must follow safety measures....keep your kids out of the room while you are pouring lye, etc...(I would rather give up the kids and make soap but I may be in the minority!) Supplies can be as expensive as you choose or as cheap as you choose.....you can make soap with olive oil, lard, other oils found in the grocery store! Or you can (and probably will) go on-line and find butters and specialty oils that are awesome! FO's, as long as they are body safe, can be used in soap.....however.........not all fo's will work - some loose their scent, some don't work because they seize, rice, turn into what most call 'soap on a stick'.....but there is a sticky that members have posted to indicating which fo's they found worked well in soap and alot of suppliers that sell fo give descriptions as to how the fo works in soap. Just a few opinions on how great making soap is! I love it.....then after you do soap, you will surely want to try lotions, cremes, bath salts, lip balms, and the list goes on and on.... Try it..... Debbie
  2. I have been doing triple layers lately and do as Deb suggests - however, if I forget to check and the 1st layer sets up too firmly, I zap it a bit with the heat gun. I even tried setting my timer but frequently get sidetracked so once again the heatgun comes to the rescue! I also pour slowly around the entire top of the candle as opposed to just pouring in one spot.... Have fun - I just love the doubles and triples! Debbie
  3. SW London Lemon Curd Aroma Haven - Lemon Verbena Peaks - Lemon Pound Cake
  4. I have to second SW white peach - it is a lovely peach but didn't hold as well as I would have liked in cp.....and the Day Star Peach Jam is a great thrower and strong! Only used it in candles but it is great! Think I would choose Day Star .... want a couple of ozs to try out? Be happy to send them to you....(just because you are such a nice person.... ) Debbie
  5. Have used the J223 for the past couple of years and been very happy with it. I just starting testing the 70/30 blend from Green Leaf and so far am pretty happy with the results. As far as wet spots, expect to get them.....you will get them (maybe not today but when you look next week they will be there) One pour - I hardly ever have to zap with heat gun and have never done a 2nd pour....depends upon the type of container I use...Occasionally get a 'dip' but a quick zap with the heat gun fixes it quickly Throw - hot and cold are great with 223.....If the fo is good, it will throw! I have had minimal problems with wicking - I use zincs but do get sooting - depending upon the container ... debbie
  6. I use 6228 and am quite happy with it for both votives and pillars....have had no problems and I find the throw is very good! For containers I have used J223 for the past couple of years however, I am now testing/experimenting with the new Greenleaf 70/30 blend and am very happy - so far.
  7. What the hell are you talking about? :laugh2: :laugh2: lol guess it was about brown sugar, price and lilac?? I'm still a bit confused....
  8. I just made a candle with Avalanche fo from ICS - just pouring it opened everything up.....man it is strong - it is a blend of spearmint and eucalyptus......Gonna try it tonight and see if it really works for those with sinus problems at my house! Now I gotta try those bath bombs! Gonna stop that snoring Debbie
  9. to smooth your soap out a bit, wash it just gently rinse it off with water and dry....should smooth it out... Debbie
  10. I also second the vote for ICS - they have several blends that are outstanding....I did some triple layers with 3 of theirs and it was an awesome throwing candle:drool: (J223) although I have not poured JS Caramel Cinnamon Latte, it is absolutely awesome oob! Debbie
  11. I heat mine in the oven....just keep the oven on warm all the time (have one for cooking and one for candles) ....I would be worried about heating some waxes to 210-220 - for example the new Greenleaf 70/30 says if it is heated over 200 it may discolor....not sure about the type of wax you are using but I would check this prior to heating so hot...jmo :undecided Debbie
  12. I believe they are two different fragrances - for the Black Raspberry and Vanilla my preference is Oregon Trails - and it soaps like a dream!! And smells better!! Debbie
  13. Just use something sharp and thin (think skewers) to poke a hole in the center of your container - stick in the wick you want to try 1st.....If you need to change to another size, pull wick out (pliers, fingers usually work for me), stick in another one....don't worry about sticking your wick until you think you know which one you want. Have fun!! Debbie
  14. Shipping would be my determining factor!
  15. Welcome! It would be really helpful for you to read the "newbie tips' at the top of the category! There is so much information that would be really helpful for you as a new chandler. Also, when you have extra time, read all the back posts as they have a wealth of information available also. Most folks use anywhere from .5 oz to 1.5 oz depending upon their wax, any additives, and how strong (or not) they want their candle....Using too much fragrance is not always good - wax can only absorb so much - think of wax like a sponge. Another helpful hint - stir, stir, stir Make sure you stir the fo in really well - some are 'heavier' than others and are more difficult to incorporate into your wax. You will find your fragrance at the bottom of your pour pot if you don't stir it well enough. Debbie
  16. I will begin by saying I use J223 for containers and OK6228 for all others.... I have to say for all 4 of these fo's, Peaks beats JS hands down in my opinion! Although JS has a Cinnamon Roll with Vanilla Creme Frosting that I use as frosting for my cinnamon rolls....but use Peaks Cinnamon rolls fo for the rolls.... Peaks cold and hot throw is AWESOME.... Fruit Slices from Peaks 'is the bomb' - everyone likes this one....I have tried both but find Peaks is stronger. The hot and cold throw is outstanding! Creme Brulee - I have tried both but prefer Peaks. With that being said, alot of JS fo's don't throw as well for me as others....there are some that are great....but if I compare with Peaks, Peaks fo's are much stronger and throw better in my wax. Debbie
  17. Welcome.... Pouring Pot - If I am just pouring a few candles I use pyrex measuring cups...(keep them in the oven at warm) - mix my color and fo in the measuring cup... Depending upon what type of wax you use, there is a recommended temp to heat to, then add color and fo, pour wax into container/mold. Use your manufacturer recommendation then adjust according to your tastes.... I use sticky dots.....put them in my container after heating..... Once you give it a try, you'll figure out the way the works best for you! Debbie
  18. Welcome..... Not sure if there is really anything these old Louisiana mosquitoes can't get past but.....I bought an eo blend that seems to work pretty good....the eo's are: orange, eucalyptus, lemongrass, litsea cubeba, spearmint, catnip and lemon. Mix this blend with cyclo, spray on and rub in.....Seems to last pretty good...and really doesn't smell bad.... Bunny also made something - maybe she will pop in.....can't remember her ingredients.... Debbie
  19. lmao... I always said there couldn't be a 'too scratchy' bar of soap....however Bunny made one that actually takes your skin off.... I use it to wash my soap dishes....don't know what she did with the other bars in that batch?? Sandpaper plus!! Never thought to share it with the males in the family.....
  20. Welcome! Where in Louisiana are you? I am in Ville Platte....I know there are several more people here from LA - Debbie
  21. I keep all my 'seasonal' (ie Christmas, Easter, Halloween) tapers, pillars and shapes in the freezer - never had a problem with them cracking unless I drop them while still frozen....I have a couple that I burn and have had no problem :undecided ... Never heard about making them burn longer.....Just do it so they don't melt (when stored with other season stuff....and I always know where they are!
  22. Impossible to choose just one.....jmo :tiptoe: Debbie
  23. Hey Bunny - and everyone...... I burned a candle that I made from the 'new' tangerine dreams - I believe she did reformulate it....It is not like the other candle I made from the bottle you brought me (and even oob it is not the same??) ....I still have a # for you - maybe I am crazy but I am not loving it as much as the stuff you had....And maybe I am just so filled up with the Vanille Abricot that I can't smell anything else :undecided lol Anyhow, will burn it again tomorrow and see what I think but for tonight, I am ... Debbie
