  1. I am with Shisha..up high is a good way to go. I have display shelves that are stair stepped....three high. I have four of those that are about three feet long. I put a sign at the top of each shelf with the prices. The signs are 8x10 and in the acrylic frames. Even with all those around, people still ask the price. On my checkout booth I have a sign with what I take (cards, checks, etc.) and my tax permit along with my brochures and business cards.
  2. Uh, if I am going to stay up late nights making my gift, I FULLY expect everyone else too. Don't make me be the handcrafted police. I don't wanna have to get tough, but if you leave me no recourse.... yeah, okay, kidding, kind of. Tanna is one cool cat! I am trying to talk her into switching over to the Comfort Inn.
  3. Whooo hooo Kimberly! Girls Gone Wild at the Texas Candle maker's Conference! (although people would probably pay NOT to see my shot!)
  4. Ut-oh...should I cancel my fitting with Vera Wang? I am just going to do causal...shorts and a shirt. But at night I would love to put on a big ole tshirt and a pair of comfy shorts. Don't be scared, but I might even shed my bra. (Hope that does not keep anyone from coming!)
  5. I am just speaking for me and not my traveling companion. I think after a full day of the conference, I will be ready to go back to the hotel and put some "slackin" clothes on and relax. Of course, I guess it does not matter, since I don't have anything to make and demo. I was kind of looking forward to slackin with you guys at the hotel in clothes with lots of elastic, a glass of punch in one hand and, well, a glass of punch in the other hand too.
  6. I bought the stuff for mine. Making it has just not happened yet. :rolleyes2
  7. Kimberly, I think I speak for everyone when I say THANK YOU for not taking the medicine!!!! I will take a little guilt if I go over my points over puking across the room any day!
  8. I have some pics like that but yours are so neat! Everything is lined up perfectly in nice little rows. Mine are just clumpped in groups! They start out all lined up and then when I start pouring they migrate.
  9. So I did something stupid. I joined Weight Watchers last week. I asked them if I could just bank all my points from now until the conference so I could put them all towards "the punch". They pretty much said, um, no. Sigh.
  10. Another option is measuring the oil right in the pour pot. I put the pot on the scale, tare it out and pour.
  11. Those rat B******! They stole from me!!!!! I use a lot of toile in my design and they must have seen me at one of my craft shows or stores. And NOW look at them! (Yeah, I am sure it happened just like that!) I wonder if they manufacture in Austin. I would love to know more about them...how they got started, etc.
  12. I don't know...which one is taller? We might go with Mutt and Jeff instead.
  13. I use 415 (as a stand alone) and I rarely ever have to wait more than a day or two for a throw on most of my candles.
  14. *gasp* I talked to her on the phone and when I asked her, she told me that WAS her real name! Color me shocked...(sniff) and a little hurt. I mean, I shared so much with her. I was on codine and I just told her everything about me. We even talked about TOE hair. *SOBBBBBBB* WE CONNECTED!!!!!!! I just don't know how to feel about this. Should I cry? Should I be upset? Should I call her Bunny at the top of my voice as loud as possible all weekend long? Should I tape a cotton ball on her butt? I am just so confused right now. Someone hold me. (yeah, I kidding [And not on condine] but I am still taping a cotton ball on her butt!) 1. Smart Tart Comfort Inn (Debbie) 2. Bunny Comfort Inn 3. Kimberly Comfort Inn 4. Scented (Julie) Comfort Inn 4. TexasBrat and VE (Thelma & Louise) Comfort Inn
  15. Smart, I think JT is still trying to find a place for the Friday night thang. The last I heard, she pretty much had a place hammered out, but it was not definite.
  16. How man of y'all (us, youse guys, however you wanna say it!) are planning on doing the Friday night business dinner/presentation?
  17. I think if you had included a pic of your dog, you would have been a shoe in! If you want to swing down Austin way and get Brat and I, we will keep you company. What's three hours out of the way?
  18. I wish you would take that and read it over and over. I really don't think Scented was set out to bash anyone. I don't know...I guess I just take what I see on the computer with a grain of salt and don't let much get to me. I don't know Scented very well (outside of giving her description to the cops in case she takes my trailer) but I truly believe she was giving constructive criticism. She knows her stuff and has been at this a while longer than you. She called you on something that you may very well have to back up in person some day. I would much rather have someone here help me understand that some of my facts might not be right than look foolish in front of someone in my shop/booth someday who knows something about candles and calls me on it. Just remember, you cannot gauge body language and intent on a screen. Had she been standing in front of you smiling and saying "Okay...come on, give me the facts" you would not have felt bashed. I don't know, maybe I am just to "green" around here, but I would like to think she was really trying to challenge you to be a better candle maker. I look back to when I was first starting out and really thought I knew it all. HA! Not even. Heck, not even today years later. So just step back and view posts with the sole intent of someone truly trying to help you, not attack you.
  19. We were posting at the same time. If it was me, I would just tell it like it is. You love the idea of a soy candle (and state the things that your candles "do" that are soy related) and then mention that you blend it with paraffin and tout the positive factors of why you do so.
  20. Okay, I am really trying to play devil's advocate here and kind of show you how even though you state on your site you are not bashing paraffin, it may still come across as such. Mary: Hi Sue, I have not seen you in a while. Sue: Hey there Mary! It is good to see you. Mary: Yeah, you too. Even though, wow, you look like crap! Have you gained weight? Are you sleeping enough? Maybe you should color your hair. Sue: (just stands there in utter disbelief with her jaw on the ground) Mary: Oh, gosh, but I am not bashing you...just stating my opinion. Just trying to lighten it up a bit but still show you that no matter how you say how much you are not doing something after you do it, you are still doing it. (did that make any sense?) Of course a paraffin candle is not going to go home and eat 5 lbs of chocolate, drown her sorrows in coke floats and chick flicks, and make a voodoo doll out of Sue like Mary will.
  21. I have thought of it, I am just trying to figure out when the heck to make it! Candle anyone? I wanted to bring something different than what I make every day, but I seriously see me shoving a candle in a bag as I walk out the door that morning, cussing as I do so!
  22. Please take this for what it is worth...because I am not bitching about the facts, just giving my opinion. You asked for input, right? When I saw your site, I felt as though you were totally trying to convey the fact that your candles are 100% soy. The things that led me to believe such: I never saw the word blend used (soy wax blend, blended soy, etc.) you use the words "pure" (even though technically most soy candles are not pure) From your page: So I assume since you have some less than positive statements about paraffin, that your candles would not contain any. Of course, I guess it would not be great marketing to say, "I use a blend so my candles only give off 30% the normal carcinogens." (edited to say that I don't believe the whole carcinogen thing) Bottom line, if you stand by the fact that you truly believe that paraffin releases carcinogens, then why not use a wax that does not contain any? If you are truly pleased with your 70/30 product and are proud of it (as you should be, your stuff is beautiful), then maybe don't lead people to believe that your product is 100% "pure" soy. Again, just my two cents, but yes, the feeling I get from your site and logo is that your candles are 100% soy.
  23. That is exactly what I do. I purchase the bags and use my heat gun. Works like a charm!
  24. I love the feel of the page. And your pictures, while they may need to be taken over or enlarged, look AMAZING! The lighting is just perfect! Did you take them? The only other things I see on a brief look: The pics on the front page under the shelf pic, I would retake it without the date stamp on it. Just my opinion, but I would take the text off of the photos. The same info can be found in the text on the page and it just distracts from the pictures. On the spa page, I see the quote up at the top right kind of choppy and the lines need to be brought up so that more words fit on one line. Please know that I am overly anal and stuff like that just grabs my eye. Most would not even think twice about it.
