  1. @TallTayl the burn so far has been really good (for the ones that did not cure but 12 hours). The only issue is slight mushrooming on the 16oz & 8oz candles. Assume I need to wick down slightly?
  2. I cant decide if I want to do 4 oz jars or not... I ordered 48 of them so obviously I will use what I have, but they burned so quick (7ish hours) I just don't see them being worth it? I guess for the price point they can be sold as samplers
  3. @Trappeur @jbradshaw Yes, it is an 8 oz square canning jar from the Jar Store I used Eco 14 wicks, but they seem to be mushrooming slightly (otherwise the burn is near perfect). Thinking I should size down??
  4. Placing an order for some FO's - I thin the 6 scents I have decided on are: 1. Coffee 2. Mango & Peach 3. Vanilla (which is y'alls favorite vanilla from Lebermuth?) 4. Lavender & Rosemary 5. Cucumber Melon 6. Clean Cotton What are some of your best sellers/personal favorites?
  5. @PhoenixFyre Yes- I was very excited after seeing how beautiful they were! I have 3 more set aside though to cure. I probably should have my husband hide them so I don't throw that thinking out the window in 24 hours
  6. LOL! definitely 2 separate... that would be.... interesting
  7. Haha. I love Harry Potter! I did add scent, however I obviously didn't let them sit long at all so I am not getting good throw (I really just wanted to test the burn with the 6% scent and all). I used C-3 Soy Wax & eco wicks... 16 oz jar = ECO-14 6" Wick 8 oz jar = ECO-14 6" Wick 4 oz jar = ECO-4 6" Wick I am now about an hour into the burn and they are nice & even so far. *yay* I have tested lonestar coffee & grapefruit scent. I cant wait to see how the scents really are after waiting a couple of weeks before burning. What are some of yalls favorite/best selling scents? I need to order a batch--- I want to focus on about 5 scents to start.
  8. Hi All- I am finally feeling better and completed a batch of candles today. I am SO excited how beautiful they turned out, so fingers crossed they burn nicely (so far so good!)
  9. Ahhh- me too! So also on my list is a new fire extinguisher for the house. LOL
  10. Great advice! For the cost of a presto, looks like I will be headed out to walmart today! Thanks all
  11. I finally decided to go with C-3 Soy Wax. I got the jars from The Jar Store
  12. I am so excited - 50 lbs of wax and 144 jars showed up on my door step today. I was really looking forward to pouring a batch tonight, but the flu has other plans for me. How perfect will these be?!
  13. Hi Everyone! After doing some digging on craft server, I found a lot of people are using Presto Kitchen Kettles in (I think) lieu of using a pot w/ water on the stove with a large pouring pot as a double broiler method. Currently, I am using a large pot on my electric stove with about 2 inches of water and then placing my wax in a pour pot to melt and mixing my oils directly in the pour pot. So what are the benefits of the presto tool? Better temp regulation? Thanks!
  14. Thank you! I had thought about a stamp originally (I saw this somewhere else and seemed to work great) but I would obviously lose the colors. I am thinking about having them printed since I am writing in the details, which leaves me flexibility.
  15. Great feedback. I will definitely have a warning label on the bottom of the candle. I had not thought of adding the remove before burning instructions, and will certainly look to add this to the back (or maybe on the bottom warning label).
  16. Hi all! I have (very roughly) put together 2 hanging tags I am thinking of using for my candles. What do you think?? I am going to be selling candles to help my IVF expenses, so the one w/ the bud symbolizes new growth, but the other one might be more eye catching. I am naming my company "Use Those Blues" which I also think is fitting for the situation. What do you all think?? I am all about constructive criticism, so bring it on! -the good candle image is what I am going for- nice & clean, no sticker on the actual jar as my husband and I agree we like our candles better without one. -the scent/oz/burn time will all be hand written in
  17. I ordered the suggested size and a sampler pack. All of my new supplies come this week and I a plan to work on them all Saturday.... I will definitely post pics & updates
  18. Haha, they are! This was my very first candle... I have since purchased a wick bar. The jars I just ordered are: 2 3/8 diameter - the chart is recommending Eco 4 3 1/4 diameter - recommending Eco 14 What would be other size wicks to test with each one?
  19. It is definitely tunneling. This is after about 5-6 hours of burning. The soot is actually from me not having a stick lighter and burning it with a flame (so there is at least that)! I am ordering larger wicks for my next round, so deciding which way to go with those -- who knew there were so many wicks out there?!
  20. Thank you all so much for the feedback so far! I think I will stick with regular wicks to start. I know I am taking a big bite into hoping to make money, however I would be happy to break even just to give me a hobby right now I am on a long 9 month journey for IVF, so maybe by then I will be getting something out of it (((( maybe )))). I think I am going to start with the 4oz/8oz/12oz canning jars from jarstore.com - any specific wicks that people have good luck with? While I am happy to test away, a little guidance to get me in the right direction would be appreciated! I am thinking about Eco 14 for 8/16oz and eco 4 for the 4oz- and brands or type you especially love? I will also take everyone's advice and play with the FO's... it seems like I can make more fun combos that way as well. Here is how my candles are looking so far..... they burn great, not the prettiest *yet* After playing with a few different jars, I definitely like the mason jar feel the best. I have been using essential oils which makes the candle smell lovely if its not burning and I sniff it... zero throw! At least I know why now. I think I will be using jarstore.com for the containers... and one stop shops for either C-3 464 wax with oils, wicks, etc w/ good prices and decent shipping? The FL store is nowhere near driving proximity to me, so trying to limit my shipping costs. Thank you all for being so welcoming!

  22. Hi All- I am starting to make soy candles with essential oils to sell to help pay for IVF (to friends/family/craft fairs). This also give me a much hobby to funnel my energy into right now & help me focus on something other than doctors appointments! I have just started testing, and need some guidance. I have narrowed it down to working with C-3 or golden 464 wax and am wondering which you would suggest for someone in FL and a newbie. I would also like to use wooden wicks... for someone who isn't doing this as a full blown business, but definitely to make money, what tools are a must, what should I avoid, etc. I am thinking of using mason jars (a small & large size - does anyone have a size they would especially recommend? What wick size would you pair with that specific size? How much oil per jar?). I am in the process of getting an LLC and insurance as well. I know these are a lot of novice questions, but any advice would be welcome! I live in Clearwater, FL and there isn't much of a candle making community/store/or classes. Also, is there a brand of EO that I can buy in a large quantity? I have found in my test batch I am going through the standard jars I buy at whole foods very fast! Any tips, advice, love, encouragement (lol), would be welcome!
