  1. Thank you I won't and good luck on your candle making journey as well! @Chariste
  2. @wthomas57The coconut 83 is predominately coconut but is blended with soy and vegetable waxes. I used the ECO wicks b/c tbh I have so much of them from when I started off testing with GB 464 awhile back. I eventually ventured off to the coconut 83 wanting to try something different. A fellow poster has actually informed about the CD wicks working perfect in the coconut 83, in fact it's highly recommended so I said I wanted to try it soon but just stuck on how many eco wicks I have prior to testing the coconut 83 smh. Where can you order CD wicks ? I've only used CS so far for ordering wicks since they had the ECO series. A book I was using for research advise using ECO wicks for natural or soy based type waxes so I figured they could work for the coconut 83 too.
  3. @wthomas57 I use coconut 83 wax, 1oz per lb of wax, I'm able to make 3 8oz jars with lb of mix and fill up to neck line of jar.
  4. @wthomas57I wanted to test it out b/c the first time I wicked the jar once w/ a ECO4 wick, the wick curled into the wax so fast it burned out so I became curious to see if it would work with 2 of them and it did! But around that time I didn't have the knowledge of when to have a FMP and the danger of the container becoming HOT because of the double wicking, also I have come across some candle makers who have double wicked there small containers and have success but as you and others have said its all about finding the proper wick. Oh and yeah the scent throw does seem stronger But I now am taking into consideration the safety of the candle/container itself with double wicking a small jar. I am now planning on sticking to one wick and testing it out with scents and just see how it al plays out plus take some GOOD notes
  5. @Kris S Oh ok ! It stuck with me for soo long as I was doing research and testing But I see what you all were saying the candles are burning closer to the bottom and the jar is hot there was some shrooming with the wicks and one jar has black spot on the side.
  6. Never came to mind, I have seen a couple of candles that were multi wicked and they were small containers the type of jars varied. Overall, I figured to test it out myself just to see but thinking it would cause suspicion didn't come to mind. @TallTayl
  7. Understood @Jcandleattic @Trappeur @Kris S ? For so long I figured a FMP on first burn was necessary I sware I've read it somewhere BUT I'm aware you all have been doing this for sometime so I respect your advice back to the lab I go ! Thanks again all for looking at this thread as well...
  8. I appreciate all of the honest feedback ! @OldGlory @Jcandleattic I will make sure to take notes next time this is definitely making me want to master this craft even more ? Bless
  9. Thank you so much @OldGlory I let it burn for 3 hours, and omg it's soo many factors they play into making and burning a candle SHEESH ? but I will stray from the double wicking of the small jars. I have some wax left over and am thinking about using the remaining to just test the wicks and not put any FO's in the mix just to see what wicks work in the two size jars I really want to work with for the future.
  10. @Jcandleattic So we shouldn't have a full melt pool on first burn ? I burned another using just one wick ECO8 was the type and after the first burn there was some wax hang up but it wasn't a FMP I burned them the second and third time and there was still some wax hang up , also I just posted another thread about another small candle I made prior to posting the pics of these 3 and it's double wicked but are closer together if you could check it out ? Please forgive me if I seem to be soo stuck on this double wick thing LOL I just want thoughts on the candles since I made them before current knowledge of what and what not to do. Here are some photos of the candle using one ECO8 wick after I blew it out I totally forgot to take some while they were burning ! ? @OldGlory @Trappeur
  11. They're so pretty ! It'll be awesome to use those jars but I agree with the other ladies. Who knows how the candle will burn considering the type of jar it is. Have you ever thought about testing one out to see???
  12. OK so I had to post these pics! This is another candle I made a week or so ago using the half pint jar, double wicked ECO4, coconut 83, and Angel Baby scent (a sample oil). At that time I still wanted to see if I could double wick the small containers but with this candle I made sure to put the wicks closely together thinking about what others said on previous post about them being far apart and not centered. For some reason I figured having them spaced apart will be better than having the wicks so close together. So, I lit this candle today at 9am just to see if it will do the same thing the 3 candles I burned a couple of days ago did. In my opinion it's burning well ! There isn't a deep melt pool in the vast 3 hours it's been burning the flame isn't large the jar isn't hot either just warm where the melt pool is. Could it be the fact of me wicking the ECO4's close together?
  13. Hello all! I wanted to upload some pics of the 3 small candles I made a week ago using, coconut 83 wax, double wicked them with ECO4 wicks, using Bora Bora scent. I also used 2 half pint canning jars I had stored in closet, just to use them up and a 7.75 oz slim jar I ordered from Fillmore containers ( those are the main jars I will use for future purposes to test). I did consider the advice about how my wicks were uneven within the container from the previous post so I was very curious to see how they will burn, as I said I did double wick the 7.75 oz jar before with the same wax and scent and it burned even but was eager to see if I would get the same results with these 3 candles so..... I did an initial 4 hr burn (lit candles at 3:42pm) , the first and second pic I took at 5:35pm and as you can see on the two half pint jars one wick from each burned out. The wicks curled soo fast into the growing melt pool.Off the record, I did re-light the wicks that burned out by using a wooden stick to uncurl the wick some just to see if the wicks will conjure up a flame again which it did. The third picture was taken at 7:43pm (4 hrs) and the middle candles wick went out again the one on the right surprisingly remained! Afterwards, I blew the candles out and let them sit for an hour. I eventually burned them again trimming the wicks first and wanted to see if the double wicks in each candle will burn successfully. The fourth and fifth picture I took around 12:30 am before I blew the candles out. Overall, I did come to the conclusion of using one wick size for my small candles just not the ECO4 because they always burn out in the wax before it creates a full meltpool. The double wick burned great in the 7.75 oz jar (to the left in the pic) so thats hope LOL. I did make more candle using other sample oils I ordered and I just wicked them once using ECO8 in the half pint canning jars I will be able to upload those pics soon they are still curing. Oh! The scent throw with this wax is awesome so I was pleased with that as well. Feel free to comment Bless
  14. Thanks wow I didn't know there was a double wick setting tool will definitely take that into consideration ! When I double wicked them before it worked out fine maybe luck ? But I am taking heed to what you both trappeur and candy bee are saying about double wicking a small container candle, I just got my slabs of wax in I want to use for other sample oils I ordered and I'm gonna use one wick for the small containers but I'll use another size up from eco4 instead.
  15. I'm gonna post pics when I burn them thanks for the input ! with the eco 4 wick when I test burned them with 1 wick some months ago all they did was burn out into the wax no less than like 5 mins??? So I tried double wicking it because I like how the wicks didn't create a mushroom or soot and it created a great melt pool ! Trappeur your concern stood out to me as far as the wicks not being close together I did think about that as I was wicking the jars should I have them closer ? I figured the two flames would conflict so I spaced them out some. And if anything I may just go up a size and try them with one wick again. Overall, I will definitely post pics of how they burn when I light them thanks again ladies for your input
  16. Hello all ! I haven't been up here in awhile nor have I been making and testing candles for some time ? (LIFE just likes to distract you ) BUT I recently got back into the groove of wanting to continue what I started in testing and making candles so.... I recently order some coconut 83 wax (started to experiment with that before and I liked it !) plus these jars from Fillmore container I fell in love with they're simple but very cute ? I also had some half pint canning jars stored in my closet so I wanted to use those up as well but the MAIN jars I want to test with the wax wick and oils are the two sizes from Fillmore container. I went on an uploaded a couple of pics of 3 small candles I made last night using coconut 83 wax with the bora bora scent ! I double wicked the containers with eco 4 wicks. Using the containers prior to my "candle coma" I seen that the double eco 4 wick burned well in the jar and the bora bora scent's HT was amazing ! I haven't burned them or trimmed the wicks yet will let them cure for a week let me know how they look !
  17. Oh wow ok! I'm in Virginia so I will make sure to look into it and YES, all of this legal stuff is scary and I want to make sure I do it right
  18. I've recently downloaded the avery design software just to get familiar with it ! So far so good, but speaking of microsoft TallTayl, how do you print off your labels ??
  19. I have been testing a coconut blend wax since mid year of 2015 & so far I'm liking it! Anyone else using this particular blend? I order from calcandlesupply, the only thing that's a bummer is shipping cost (will have to take that in high consideration when pricing candles for my future business endeavor) what are your pros or cons on this wax if you do use it?
  20. Thanks for all the advice, I started making candles in 2014 been testing ever since then ( is that to long? LOL) but I finally got into the swing of creating a solid candle and have been giving them to family and friends they love them ! But i will definitely take this advice and put it into play when its go time. And ah man I was going to look into guild but I dont make soaps Are there any another insurance providers you may know of?
  21. I am in the process of starting a small candle business and I am STUMPED on getting insurance or starting an LLC. I have been getting some advice from others, some say LLC to protect your personal assets which I understood but until profits come in is it necessary to register as an LLC so early? As far as insurance, is general liability insurance the perfect option and what insurance companies offer it? Overall, I feel like I will get the best input from other candle makers who started a business of there own any input is appreciated!
