  1. I know when I am transporting candles to work I can often smell them in the car. The first day I brought new candles into work, I could here people in the hallway commenting on the wonderful smells coming from my office so I know the scent is there. I have been pouring with tried and true scents that I have worked with for months and years. Still makes you doubt though.
  2. I am doing 8oz JJ with Sugar Cookie and Mulberry scents! They seem to be going like hot cakes along with Cranberry. I am also trying to perfect my rustic pillars. Some are good, others are bad.
  3. I think I have candle nose really bad! I cannot smell any of my scents. I am worried about my soy candles not throwing well. I have tried everything to correct my problem with my nose. I keep getting rave reviews from my coworkers and they keep buying my candles like crazy as well. But my brain tells me that my candle does not smell strongly!!
  4. Oh yes...been there and have spilled many colors many times. Mineral spirits work wonders for removing liquid dye from counters, vinyl floors, appliances. I have never tried it on wood floors so I cannot give any advice on that one.
  5. I was wondering how everyone's bakery/food scents sell after the holidays? I do not want to overstock on them right now since I will be starting spring scents soon for a craft show in February?
  6. Hi all! I am just wondering how many scents most of you carry in your regular line of soy products? I am having a difficult time trying to decide how many to carry. I have tested all of the scents I have but need to narrow them down.
  7. I found that slightly heating my embed will let me adhere them to the wall of my mold. I have not had any problems with this technique. It has also worked well with round molds because then I can flex them to the shape of the mold.
  8. Very nice rustin pillar and welcome to the board.
  9. Attention all: If anyone is looking for the kitchen kettle for melting wax Walmart seems to have a ton of them in stock during the holiday. I picked up 2 of them today for $21.84.
  10. The day has went well. I unmolded my first cranberry mottle before supper tonight. It is perfect. I wish I could find the flash card for the camera so I could post a pic. I have the other two 3 x 6's poured and patiently awaiting repour. I need more molds!!!!
  11. What brand of wax are you using? When I make soy pillars I usually wick them with square braid #2 or #3 depending on the FO.
  12. I hope everyone has a happy holiday today. We are eating early and then I have to crack the whip and get several custom orders done by Monday to take back to work with me. No Black Friday shopping for me I guess.
  13. My best seller by far is the 3 x9 then 3 x6 rounds and in 3rd is my 3 x 4 square mold. Peeps are going crazy for my rustics in the round pillars. I just did three coffee bean ones last night.
  14. I have found that I cannot smell my candles at home where I pour them. I have been taking them to work. Last week, I had half the building coming in my department wondering where the awesome sugar cookie smell was coming from. I can smell my candles after I get them in the car and/or different environments. HTH!
  15. I choose a wax that I could get locally to save on freight. As far as scent throw goes, if a scent does not throw for me, I will try the same scent from another vendor or two to see if the scent will work in soy for me. If all of my scents fail from all 3 sources I do not carry that scent for soy. I used to color my soy but after battling with frost issues I made the decision not to color on my standard product line. I will do custom color jobs if requested.
  16. Thanks! I am waiting to order dyes from CandleScience. I really like their products. I am almost out of my current dyes. I also want to try some different brands of soy wax. I am not 100% satisfied with what I am using.
  17. Do any of you use liquid dyes in your soy? I have been using color block and/or chips and I either end up with specs of dye or inconsistent batches of color. I would really like to use the liquids but do not want any additional frosting if possible.
  18. I am working on 6 large orders this weekend. Some votives mostly pillars. It's that time a year again when I have to start heating all of my molds! I pulled votives out from last nights work and every single one had issues and went back into the pot. I was out of commission all summer due to back surgery and I am just playing catchup. I also went to a craft show this am to scope out the candle makers. I have to say I am proud to be part of this board and see such talent. Two of these chandlers had nothing on any of us. Everyone keep up the good work!
  19. I love those brown/tans. What kind of dye did you use? They definitely are awesome candles!
  20. Does anyone add vybar to their wax after adding gloss poly to get rid of the fingernailing problem? I just don't want to add something I really do not need. The only reason I ask is that I poured some votives last night with color, scent, & gloss poly at my usual 175 temp and small pin like bubbles on the sides of my votives.
  21. I have used a 2/0 or a 1/0 square braid depending on how much color and fragrance. The 1/0 is larger than the 2/0 FYI.
  22. How does everyone that uses gloss poly melt it down? I finally bought some due to all of this fingernailing in my wax. I am getting it in all of my wax types.
  23. I was trying to make rustics and got bubble marks on some spots on my pillar. What did I do wrong? I used kate's receipe for rustics and the rustic part looks good but I had the bubbles. What can I do different to prevent this?
  24. Thanks again everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Between us and his doc we think we figured out what happened. First of all my husband wears a insulin pump which can easily give you a false sense of wellness because you are continually getting insulin delivered. BUT the insulin in his pump was no good. We believe it got froze in the fridge because many times than not my kids like to mess with the temp controls. He did get to come home today so that is good news!
