1. Oh that must've been so much FUN!! I'm getting geared up for a show in August and I just love looking at pics of other peeps' shows. Are those naked bath bombs in those little crates? I love those crates, btw! AND the corner shelves. Nice touch!
2. Summer Squash Punkin Pilouf Punkinhead Punkin Patch
3. I was just looking at those today! Only about an hour or so ago! Yep, they look like they've got tons of potential, doncha think? I would've grabbed up a bunch of em but my hands were full and I didn't have a buggy with me. I'll be stopping back by there tomorrow though and getting quite a few to play around with.
4. Ok I just HAD to post a big THANK YOU AGAIN! I just got my two samples of fo's (one from candle cocoon, and one from KY) and they are BOTH astounding in their similarity to the real deal. I honestly couldn't decide between the two and ended up having to let my son pick which one smells more like a freshly sliced cucumber. He's the main cucumber eater around here, so he's more of an expert than me. He voted for the Cucumber Chaos from candle cocoon, but it took him about 10 different sniffs of each bottle before he could finally decide. It was NOT an easy decision, which tells you that both places offer a great smelling fo, oob. Now off to soap em both and see how they behave when CP'd!
5. Not familiar with the BCS version of it, but Cherry Almond is the Jergen's scent, so yep, it should work for ya. I have a bottle of Cherry Almond from Wellington and it's DA BOMB! Dead ringer for Jergen's lotion and I love it!
6. I just bought a couple small containers of Royal Blue Mica powder from JoAnn Fabric yesterday because they were on sale, and I just used them on a 4lb batch of Downy April Fresh scented soap that's gelling as I type. Has anybody used the micas from there in CP before? The employees assured me they would work, but I've got my doubts because they don't appear to be quite right. I wanted the soap to be an overall lt blue tint with a darker blue swirl, so I pulled out about 1/3 of the mix to use for the dark swirl. Added the mica to the main pot...nothing happened. Added more, still nothing. No color appeared. Added a total of about 2 teaspoons to the main pot with no results. Started working on the smaller portion and added twice as much...it turned PEACH! Like a salmon colored PEACHY-PINK! I looked over at the main pot and it is a pale cream color! (was white) So....My two-toned light blue soap with a dark blue swirl is SALMON & CREAM colored! Will this change after gelling?? I need some soap fairy traps to put in my kitchen FAST! Them buggars are spoiling EVERTHANG!!
7. A doo-lolllie is, um...that thang that makes the world go round, LMAO! Or as my daughter used to say many years ago when very young, THE FRONT OF YOUR BUTT! hee hee
8. Gosh I wish I could help but I'm a little lost on the whole idea. What would you want the purpose of this to be? Exfoliating? Moisturizing? Based on the ingredients you named, it sounds to me like a regular fizzy bath melt...only larger. Is that what you had in mind? If so, I'd just do a search for Bunny's bath melts or Farrell's emulsified melts (both are AWESOME!) and mold them larger to suit you. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. P.S. If you do use a "fizzy" bath melt recipe for a larger bar...I'd be sure to put a warning on there somewhere about possibly tickling their um, doo-lollies, with all that fizzin ROFL. Although that might be a strong selling point!
9. WOW! That is absolutely stunning! And your first time?!! Woooohoooo! Wayta go girl! I'd be turning flips around the house if that had been my first CP batch! No kiddin! Hubby would have to either move the furniture outta my way or replace everything I broke cuz there'd be NO stoppin me! Congrats!
10. AMEN Hewells!! I know that I would DEFINITELY never do business with a company that I thought would have the potential for "stalking" me into the very forums I frequent just to pester me and belittle me over an unsatisfied transaction. Terrible terrible "business" practice, if you can even compare it to that.
11. Gerlavomile Rose! Ok, so I totally SUCK at naming these, but they're so beautiful, I just keep coming back to this thread. Figured I might as well make a post while I'm here this time, rofl.
12. Oh thanks a bunch you gals! Got a small bottle of it coming from both places so I can try it out. Sounds like it's gonna be hard to decide though, so I might have to figure out a way to use BOTH somehow, lol. Many many thanks!
13. Thanks Malinda, for at least commiserating with me, lolol. Just goes to show ya that no matter how long you've been doing this...sh%@ still happens, rofl. Cindy, yep I just zap tested it and it seems fine. Too fine actually, which is weird. It's only been a little over a day so I expected to maybe still get a little lye action going there, but it barely even tasted like "soap" and there was no zap at all. Thinking maybe that means I just licked plain oil that wasn't incorporated. Although I have no idea why it wouldn't be mixed well. I stick-blended til thick trace. And I mean *thick* trace, borderline soap-on-a-stick. I'm confuzzled by this. Looks like I just got visited by them dang soap fairies I guess. :undecided
14. Normally when I spot a "glitch" in my poured soap, I can leave it alone for a couple of days and it stands a good chance of straightening itself out, but I think it's safe to say that THIS batch doesn't stand a chance of that. I'm gonna have to re-batch it, but Ida wanna!!! :cry2: I don't understand what did this. Any ideas? Not a new recipe, no new method of soapin...just my same ole standby that usually works out for me. Does it look like maybe it overheated? It's a milk soap and it did gel, but nothing out of the ordinary took place during that...far as I could see from the outside looking in. Could I maybe have not mixed it well enough? I'm a little clueless as to why this happened and want to be sure that if it's something I did or didn't do, I can watch out for it from now on. Ah how this sucks. It was going to be such a nice soap. Scented Peaks White Tea & Ginger (smells fabbo!) and now I gotta do it over. It'll still be nice after I'm done with it, but I just HATE the thought of having to rebatch it. kwim? Anyway, thanks for letting me vent a tad bit, and any ideas/input about what went wrong are welcomed.
15. Hi, I got a bottle of SoapBerryLane's Crisp Cucumber off of the classifieds here and I LOVE IT! LOVE IT, LOVE IT! Now I want to order some to keep in stock on a regular basis and I don't know who to order it from, as SoapBerryLane doesn't appear to be around. Anybody else using this FO or know where I could get it? It smells like a very "true" sliced cucumber and was easy peasy to CP soap with! TIA
16. Ooooooooh I LOVE THAT! Wow! I really, really, reeeeeeeallly love that! I'm sorry they didn't turn out the way you originally had in mind, but I truly think they're stunning just like they are. Hurry up and write down exactly how you did that so you can maybe recreate the same purty mistake later! LOL Great job!
17. Oh you're welcome! I was up anyway, catching up on the new posts. I'm just glad I could help!
18. Hi Lynn! Don't know if this is what you wanted, but it's the only link I found that was wholesale-related...it's for selling their soaps at wholesale: http://www.saratogascents.com/wholesale_soap.html hth
19. Oh gosh do I ever remember!! What an experience! I was making soap with my friends & family in mind and they've ALL got terribly dry skin to the point of using prescription salves, so I knew it would have to be something great. The pressure was ON. I'd researched recipes and oil properties for over a year before settling on one I thought would work, but that was the easy part compared to the actual making of the soap. I measured everything out, melted the hard oils, had the soft oils setting close by while I went outside to mix my lye (yep, I was a scurdy cat!). I added the lye to the water and it started fizzin & foaming and smoking! I kept stirring and it was turning into GRAVEL right before my eyes! Grabbed a pringles can to scrape it into and throw it out. Didn't know what happened, so I tried it again. Did the same thing, GRAVEL. Then I realized the pot I was mixing the lye in was aluminum! LOLOL. Switched up to a stainless steel container and VOILA everything worked out. Ended up getting DOS really bad on the soap bars, and had to rebatch, so my first experience was really several experiences all at once. I was thrilled though to have my own bars of soap to use, and we've all became cleaner people since then because I can hardly wait to use up a whole batch just so I can move on to another one! We're constantly washing! lolol.
20. Oh my stars! WHAT did I stumble across here? ROFLMAO!! I couldn't sleep, so I figured I'd read for a few minutes, and BOY did I pick a humdinger of a thread to follow! What a hoot! Laughin so hard I woke up DH. He was like "WTF"??? :laugh2:
21. Welcome Laura! Never been to Sweden, but I know that it's a lovely place! It's great to have you here at this forum, and trust me, you're going to have SO much fun...you'll never want to leave.
22. I got a 1 oz sample of "Hawaiian Breeze" (OMG, it's soooooo awesome!) and a pound of the 70/30 ParaSoy blend wax. Used it all at once and out of it, I poured: 1 8oz quilted jelly jar 2 4oz quilted jelly jars 4 1/2 little melts (in ice cube tray cuz my tart pan is at my friend's house) Heating & Pouring: I used the same wick on all containers (51c). Heated wax to 175 degrees, then added FO within a couple of minutes at about 170 degrees. Let it cool to 145, stirred it up a bit, and poured it into room temperature jars. :-) Burning / Melting: I made sure the wick was trimmed to begin with, then lit and waited to see what happened. Scent throw increased tremendously within about 3-4 minutes, scenting my entire downstairs with only the two 4oz candles (lg living room, lg kitchen, bedroom, bathroom) with no trouble. The wicks did begin to mushroom after the first hour of burning, but that could be due to a lot of different factors. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it at least an 9, maybe a 9.5 or 10 for hot throw because the smell really covered some ground. I placed 4 of the ice-cube sized tarts (about 1/2 oz ea) into my simmer pot and after approx 10-15 minutes the whole house smelled almost like I was sniffing this FO right outta the bottle! Very impressive! Cold Throw: At 6% fragrance load, this wax/fragrance oil combo very easily puts off a cold throw that lets you smell the FO from anywhere inside of the same room. I'd give it a 10 on the cold throw simply because I've got sinus "issues" at the moment and yet could STILL smell this very vibrantly. Working with the wax: The wax itself was different from what I'm used to because it seemed "smushier", but that was not a major problem and well worth the effort to achieve the results that I did once finished. I simply cut it into cubes and microwaved it in a glass pyrex measuring cup, checking it every so often to make sure it didn't overheat. I used no color, and it is a very clean white color when cooled. And speaking of clean, it wasn't a problem to clean up after the wax as what I'd thought it would be. Just some hot soapy water and paper towels, and voila! Clean stuff again. The Fragrance Oil: Can't say enough good stuff about this FO! I just LOVE tropical/coconut scents, so this will be one of my favs! Very fruity with pineapple, coconuts, and some other kinds of fruits/melons I can't quite describe, a very yummy combination. I can see right now that I'm going to have to order a big bottle of this!
23. Oh my those are lovely! I'd grab one and hit the shower til I ran outta hot water! lolol. Great job! edited: cuz I lost my train of thought, lol
24. Thanks Anita! Got a 99 on my Marketing test! Woohoo! Don't know about the Business Law, but I think I did good there too (hoping!). Marisa - I actually used my daughter's pencil box to pour these in, LOL. Worked perfectly as a slab mold though and holds an almost 2 pound batch. Then I cut 6 bars outta each batch, so they're a little on the hefty side but I like chunky soaps anyways. Then I can lay one bar on it's "back" and slice several testing slivers out of it to hand out to all the locals around here. And as for the Soy milk...I'd LOVE to try soapin with that one day soon. I've heard it doesn't discolor, do you know if that's right? Sorta like working with Coconut milk (another absolute favorite). Thanks everybody for all of your sweet comments! I just love this board. Everybody's so encouraging!!
25. Sure! It's actually a variety of FO's. Some I got off the classifieds here, and others straight from the company. Let's see if I can get these in the right order: Back row, left to right: WSP Pineapple, Pourette's Sweet Pea, (with OMH bars sitting on top), SoapBerryLane's Mango Papaya, SnowtopCandleSupplies' Raspberry Dream (the dark ones on far right). Front row, left to right: Bulk Oils' Pina colada, KB Green Irish Tweed, KB Lavender With the goat milk, I frequently get a light tan if I don't chill the milk good. Some of the discoloration is probably due to that. But I was pleasantly surprised at the Lavender because it's one of the palest soaps I've gotten so far! I'll post pics again as they dry, to let everybody know what color they ended up with.
