  1. Thanks everyone. It was a metal mold, I don't have any clear.
  2. I believe the directions are in a tutorial on the old board once it becomes archived and available again. But they are really easy to make, just a bit time consuming. Lin makes some beautiful ones using stemmed wine glasses, and they are filled with container wax. Hers put these to shame. Anyways I used Roly Poly votive holders. You just hot glue rose petals and leaves to the votive holder. You can either buy silk roses and cut those apart or buy a package of silk rose petals and a bundle of leaves that look like rose leaves. But the leaves looking right aren't really important IMO. It's just that simple. HTH
  3. Thanks again everyone. For those having trouble with these, tips I've found...... I start with HOT wax, gives you extra work time. I keep my high dryer/heat gun handy incase I need extra time. If so I just hit the outside of the mold with the heat, works great. I use a square or retangle shape, much easier to place and keep straight than one cut to the shape of the image. I cut carefully to make sure it's straight on all sides. A crooked cut will either result in either a crooked pic, or it'll look crooked. I place bottom edge along bottom of mold, easiest to get a straight pic this way. I start at one bottom corner when cooling wax around pic, then go to that upper corner and cool. I then lightly drag skewer to make sure it stays straight and flush with mold and cool other bottom corner, go back to first side if it's melting, then go back. I do this back in forth till both sides are covered then concentrate on center, but go back to sides when needed. When I have a nice skin over the back of the pic, I move to water bath, keeping a cold washcloth over the outside of the mold where the pic is so wax doesn't melt in the mean time. Most important is to take your time. I still have remelts from time to time, but those are usually a result of me being in a hurry, not cutting pic straight, being in a hurry placing pic.... HTH someone out there. I use a skewer to place rather than a wooden spoon, much easier to see what your doing, and you can apply the pressure right where you need it.
  4. Thank you everyone! I made a set for my lil sis using this same tie dye technique. It was a light burgundy heart with dark burgandy tye die, a 2 slanted layer 3x3 round scented Rose Petals, light burgundy on top 3rd, dark burgundy on bottom 2/3rds. She really liked it, but the heart didn't turn out as well. I used to much dye and it was kinda blotchy on the top. So if you try this, use the dye sparingly.
  5. Thank you everyone for the kind words. This one is my fav of all the candles I've ever made. I don't think I'll ever burn it. Usually I'm not a big fan of browns, but for some reason I do like this one. I know it's nowhere close to as pretty as some of the others here in the gallery, but I'm proud of it. Someday........ I love this scent, smells like hot butterscotch to me, and the throw is incredible. I made it months ago, and it's been sitting out ever since, and it still has a great cold throw. I am currently about 3 feet away and I can smell it great. I made some matching votives which I have burned and the hot throw was incrediable!
  6. They are all stunning to say the least. In order of favs 2&3 equally can't choose , 4, 1. Someday I hope to make candles even half that beautiful.
  7. Your ornies look great! As for the marbled votives, I don't think they look bad, but they are way to much work IMO for the small amount of profit they bring in.
  8. Ugh who was it that posted that sheet???????? Ebcandles maybe? Not sure though. In a post Alan said that he's working on getting the old board available as an archieve, so the threads will be available to read soon, at least most of the older ones will. I think I read that they had retrieved most threads that were posted up to May. I agree that every time you get a new case of wax, package of wicks, or another bottle of the fo you should burn a tester. Formulas change from time to time, bad batches of wax, etc. You just want to be sure not to send out a bad batch. To sell legally you need a DBA, Business licence, tax ID #, product liability insurance, and warning labels on each candle. HTH
  9. Are these less expensive than smelly jellies? I would think saving on shipping and the convience of just buying it locally would probably be worth it even if it has a little more expensive purchase price. I've never made smelly jelly jars, but I have to admit some of those pics looked pretty cool, especially the ones as candle holders.
  10. To sell legally you need to have a DBA, Business Licence, Tax ID#, and Product Liability Insurance. But I suppose if your just starting to make candles these are a future worry. As others have advised, you've got a lot of testing to do before you should even consider selling. It only takes 1 faulty candle to possibly burn someones house down and bring a lawsuit down on the candlemaker. Not trying to discourage you, just bringing some important factors to your attention. No one can stress the importance of thurough testing enough. So my biggest suggestion for you at this point is to first worry about making a candle that your proud to call yours, that burns perfectly in your opinion, and worry about a system and selling later. That'll keep this fun and much less stressful. As any experienced chandler can tell you, getting that consistant perfect burn is stressful enough all on its own. Welcome to the board and a very addicting craft.
  11. I was having this same problem. So I tried not spraying the mold, and that did the trick, the "frosting" stuck to the candle instead of the inside of my mold. I also found not to use a water bath, or place in the fridge/freezer. I tried all of these things to get a rustic, and only when I did none of them did it actually work. I keeped remelting the same wax over and over so I knew these things were mistakes, not my formula, and I always poured right around 145. With a chilled mold I seemed to get more jumplines than in a room temp mold. HTH
  12. <<<<<Hands raised...If ya need a tester I volunteer! Looks great! I sooooooooo wanna start making soap, to the point it's really pushing me to find a real job! LOL Hard to buy supplies w/o money, I just do alot of window shopping these days. Looks great Mikey, and I bet those seeds really add to the exfoliating.
  13. LMAO Thank you! The first time I posted this pic, I think it was Robin who said it looked (the marble) perfect for strawberry cheese cake. I didn't have that scent at the time. But I do have Cherry CHeesecake now, so maybe I should give it another go. Sad thing is, I have great beginners luck, not so great at repeating...LOL Thanks everyone for your compliments.
  14. Actually no, I hadn't thought about glitter. I did put some hot glue on some of the petals of some to resemble dew. These were made using a container full of petals from the wedding section at Wally World, but alot of them came creased, and needed trimming. I think the ones made from flowers look much nicer, but I don't have a pic of those.
  15. I did, thats how come there's so many lines lol.
  16. Chunkies are my favorite to make. Just thought I'd mention it in case ya'll couldn't guess that by my posts. It's a great way to use up remelts, which as you may have guessed, I have had a lot of. Not as many as I used to thank the lord above. The white lines weren't actually meant to be white. The blue wax from the very bottom was supposed to run up into them, and be blue. But I waited to long, so I got white lines instead, but I like them.
  17. Awwwwwwww so sweet, if he needs a home, you know my addy!
  18. Love the colors and the texture. Very pretty candles!
  19. Wow beautiful! Those are truly works of art, that trully are to pretty to burn! At least I never would. They'd be sitting on my shelves forever.
  20. In one word, GORGOUS! Wish I could spell! LOL That pillar is perfect for the fo. Wonderful work.
  21. Thanks everyone! It's actually 2 shades of burgandy, the top very light, and the bottom very dark/deep. I made a set of 7 for my floor stand. Problem is I need to burn them now, my lab keeps bumping into the stand knocking some down, and they've gotten scratched up. It's right next to my computer desk, and he likes to lay by me. His big butt bumps it when hes laying down. Poor thing has gotten clocked on the head a few times now. Anyways, poor me has to light them up now, because they just don't look nice anymore. Woooo whoooo, strawberry fields FOREVER! LOL
  22. Awwwwwwwwwwwe!!! Bet your house smelled awsome for a week after they were deployed!
  23. Great choice of style and colors to go with that scent. But ya shoulda used strawberry embeds in the red layers you silly girl. LOL JK Looks great! I wouldn't change a thing honestly.
