  1. Hi everyone, I have been making Aroma Bead Air Fresheners using Cookie cutters for my designs and the one question I have is how do you prevent or remove the "Excess" when you take it off the pan and leaves these sharp pointy spike looking tabs on the backside, or if it melts under the cookie cutter leaving what I call an "over flow" effect? I currently use a heated exact-o knife to remove the "over flow" but the cut looks horrible. I do heat the blade to get a smoother look but it's not as smooth as I would like it. As for the "Excess" on the back I place aluminum foil on a hot plate and push the Freshener down to melt down the spikey tabs. Any other thoughts on how I can either prevent this from happening or fixing it when it does happen?
  2. Thank You ASWRN. So far I haven't had the desire to PIG OUT---LOL
  3. Thanks, watching them melt is pretty cool. The star shrinks and shrinks until it's gone, where most melts just melt, the star keeps it's shape as it's gone.
  4. Thank You, I wish the pictures came out better. I need to get a better camera, or take photography lessons--LOL
  5. I loved the video, the shop is looking really good. I have a couple questions for you. 1. where do you get the flourescent colors? 2. are your votives scented or non scented, I couldn't tell by the video?
  6. [/ATTACH] The picture only shows 2 samples of each. I have created 10 different sachet scents, approx 8 sampler scents. More of each in the works. Plus 30 more strawberries. This time just regular strawberries. no Chocolate covered ones. I'm thinking of doing White Chocolate dipped Strawberries for Easter. Enjoy!!!
  7. Hi candle kitty Im a newbie to the world of wax so I look forward to seeing your work and learning from you.
  8. Hi everyone, I read the older post on clamshell labeling and I am currently looking into using either the name badge label or the 2x3 Avery. However, my problem is the labels are going in the wrong direction. It's horizontal vs vertical. I need the short side across the box and longer side up and down on the box. Other than Avery Design and print online anyone know of a program that can turn the print on the label? I love Avery Design and print online but for some reason my printer will not print from that program, even though it has all the spec's to. It starts to print then stops. I have exhausted all my efforts to get it to work. I looked into Vista Print, Labels online, Avery, Uline etc and no one carries the label going in the veritcal direction vs horizontal. Any suggestions?
  9. what is your average price for a 2 oz non scented votive?
  10. Why do you think it won't be feasable to do business from Puerto Rico? If you have been in the busness for 14 yrs, you shouldn't just give up on it. Get yourself a website or set yourself up on Etsy, Ebay or Amazon. You can sell it from there sites. Going Global via the web would make it so much bigger, not to mention, you may start a new trend in Puerto Rico. You could be a pioneer of candle making and selling, become extremely famous. I don't think you should give up on something you clearly enjoy doing just because your moving. Give it some more thought before selling. Look into the online options. Good luck to you and I hope you make the right decision.
  11. Thank you for your replies. When I see signs or posting for craft shows the application deadline has already passed--so I constantly miss out. I do get my name and number on a list for the next show, but that's generally a year later. So far the requirements are minimal-DBA or business license is a must because they use your ID #-whether it be a Tax Id or your SS# depending on how you licensed the business. The table or space fee's are considerabely high. My son's school has a Holiday Gift Shop that the PTSA puts on, that is 1 day and the table fee is $75.00--Ouch!!!! Currently I am labeling just as you are. I am listing, oz, warning labels, scent names, company name, etc. I am verbally telling them what type of wax is used because I use different waxes for different product. I found 2 other candle crafters in the area and they said I am labeling with enough information. I can't believe how tight lipped candle makers are about discussing product requirements. I realize any new candle crafter is competition, but Walmart and Target is competition and there Corporations discuss different topics. It's not like I asked how they make there product. But I can at least put the labeling question to rest now. I will keep an eye out for any changes that are required within our state. Thank You again--Your replies helped!!!!
  12. I have searched the forum archives to see if this question was posted prior but I can't find one. So I apologize if it has and I missed it. I live in up state NY and when the air temps outside fell below 60's I started having problemw with small holes forming on the tops of my palm wax candles. I keep the house temp's around 70 but still the holes form. Does anyone know if it's the air temp not being warm enough that is causing this? I have tried tapping the side of the mold to remove any air pockets that may have formed, plus I have tilted the molds while pouring. I always make sure the molds are warmed prior to pouring. The pour temps are correct, the molds are clean-no debris or particles. My thoughts continue to go to the air temps. If that's the case, what can I do to prevent this from happening-other then only pour palm wax in the summer?
  13. I like the smell of Jamaica me crazy and Monkey Farts from NG. Both have pineapple notes, however, I have had trouble getting a good throw scent on both as an individual scent. I decided to experiment one day and combined the scents and the throw was Great for both candle and aroma beads.
  14. Foody Scent is-Cranberry Relish it's fab for candles and aroma beads. I am sure it would be fab as soap as well. Sweet Scent-Buttercream or Maple Walnut Fudge
  15. Vicky thank you for your reply. We did just what you said, we lined up the strawberries to how we wanted them presented in the box and we also finally got through to papermart. For anyone else interested in there packaging-boxes, poly bags etc. We were informed that the D-Depth is the Actual Length of the box, the W-Width-Actual Depth of the box, L-Length-Actual Width of the box. Our box ended up being 3x11/4 x 61/2. That will allow us to box 10-2 rows of 5.
  16. Mine is a combination of name and what we will be selling. The logo is a combination of what we all love. My son is the moon, I am the fairy and hubby is the wolf. That is why I called it Mystic Sowle's
  17. Hi everyone, I am hoping someone can help me figure out the size box I need to package my specialty melts. I am looking into Papermart as a supplier but their sizes don't make any sense to me. I want a rectangular type they have: L W D Rect 4 1/2 1 1/4 8 Sqr 4 1/2 1 1/4 4 1/2 These dimensions don't make sense to me. This is there "NOTE: Length is the widest dimension of the opening into the box. Width is the smallest dimension of the opening into the box. Depth is the distance into the box from the opening to the bottom of the box."----What????? My strawberries are 1.50=L x 1.25= W x .75= D. Can anyone tell me if the sizes above would fit 12 strawberries if I stack them 2 high? Thank You!!!!
  18. LOL, it's the only way I can enjoy treats, especially chocolate ones. If I can't eat them, I can at least enjoy the smell of them. Not to mention it's better for the waist line.-- ( : I'm working on a flyer and business card and I have "Scentfully Fulfilling" as my motto. I have Blueberry Muffin, Maple Walnut Fudge, and Red Velvet scents. I'm stuck on how to I want to use them. Any suggestions? The Red Velvet I was thinking of doing mini cake squares. I have a mini muffin mold but it's still too big for a melt. I actually use that for muffin fire starters for the spring, summer campers. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.
  19. Thanks! Ive gone on to cupcakes as well this one was chocolate lovers with love spell.
  20. Hi Everyone, I live in a small town but the communities around me hold alot of Craft Shows can anyone advise how I can get a selling spot at a Craft Show? Also I was interested in trying to sell some of my products in a Consignment Shop any ideas on that as well? In order to sell to the public what are the labeling requirements? I have read that you need to list what type of wax and wicks are used, however looking at commercial candles sold in the markets I don't see any of that listed. I know warning labels need to be applied as well as scent names-that's a no brainer, but I'm stuck on what else needs to be listed on the labels. Oh I also read that they need to be dated? Any Information would be great. Thank You Penny
  21. Have you tried Uline? They have straight sided jars- This is there size and listing prices. The shipping is generally reasonable. PLASTIC LID SOLD IN CASE QUANTITIES MODEL NO. 22. Thank You all for your comments. I sold out of the strawberries for now. Once I get more supplies I will be making more. I just finished making celestial scented tear drops.(I used an onval shaped mold). plus lilac scented eggs as well. My dad loves those. My ideas just keep flowing. My next project is Jelly Beans and other Easter themes. What r all you up to?
  23. I had alot of problems with NG scents until I started using 10% (2 0z per 16 oz of wax), then I finally started getting a better scent throw. My cold was always good, but the hot was nill. It's much better now, and I asked NG, and they said that 10% is there maximum recommendation for all of there scents. Which they have listed on there web site. Most people don't realize that 1 oz for 16 oz of wax is only 6%. 16 x .06 =.96 or 1 0z. I have noticed that I don't need to use that much for scents from Candle Science or Scentimental Gifts.
  24. There are different grades of paraffin. The less toxic is food grade paraffin. Soy/palm are healthier alternative but as with most things you buy you have to know about the seller and where the products are coming from. Some Soy/palm choices are tainted with toxins as well. It comes down to the individuals choice and preference. The best alternative is Bees Wax but it's very pricey to buy, unless you can connect with a local bee keeper but then it has to be processed into usable wax for candles.
