  1. Thank you for all your replies. I made votives at christmas time for family members and to use for power outages, I had some palm wax so I thought I would give it a try and it was a pain in the butt. I will consider all cost involved before pricing them. My concept behind making them colored and non scented was for those who can't have the scents. I actually know several people who would get migraines from scented candles. Being someone with severe Allergy/Sinus issues I can relate. I also know several people who like to eat dinner with a candle lit but don't like the tapered ones and enjoy color. So there was a method to my madness-- Unfortunately I no longer see those people-- I am sure once the weather breaks and I get my shop at my house opened up I will have people interested in them-
  2. Hmmmm I haven't thought about the packaging. I was just going to shrink seal them and label them, now you have me wondering about that idea.
  3. Those are good Ideas I will think about that when I market them.
  4. If you were to buy these candles, how much would you pay? They are non scented 2 oz Palm Wax Votives--I haven't wicked them yet. Would you purchase one particular color or multi Colors?
  5. I have tried some of these tips, what's odd is it still occurs after the repour. I will have to try tipping them upside down.
  6. Really how much scent oil are you using? Just make sure the scent oil is okay to use for aroma beads. I'm researching the board type air freshener for summer use in cars. I want to see how long they last and all the details in making them. I was never impressed with the ones you buy on the market. I have found the Cookie Cutter Company a good resource for Cutters. Plus I watch Micheals and AC Moore. I was able to get Halloween and Christmas sets for .99. I wish I had bought more then one at the time. I would love to do a swap, I have never done anything like that.
  7. LOL Turtle Wax-Same here. We call the crows pterodactyl's cuz there so big. I am going to start making some, I just have to get through my son's 9 birthday party this weekend.
  8. CS rep told me to pour at desired pour temp, and that is what there website says as well. What is the desired pour temp?
  9. Yeah, I have had to reshape my cutters as well. The one I have the most problems with is my favorite one--A Coyote. It seems to be a favorite among family and friends, yet it's the hardest one to get right. I made some in early December and the scent from it is still going strong. It's the longest I've had an air freshener last in my car. Even Yankee or Gold Canyon haven't lasted this long. The scents I made in December were Cranberry Relish, Balsam, and New Car. I just did Ocean Breeze, Purple Hooters(Awesome scent) and I combined Jamaica Me Crazy and Monkey Farts which smells awesome as well. My niece is loving that one.
  10. Have any of you had any luck in selling Survival Candles for Campers and Hikers, etc? I don't mean tea light style or pillar, I'm talking the tin container type. I live down the road from a camp site and I was thinking of approaching the owner about possibly selling some in his store. I was considering Citronella ones as well. I was wondering if any of you tried this concept. I made some fire starters for the Hunters/Snow Mobile riders/Trackers, in the family to add to their Emergency Survival Kits. Most of them used them and liked the idea and said I should sell Survival Candles. I'm seeking some feed back on the idea.
  11. Hmmm, my post back to you on this never hit. What do you mean by wreck the tops?
  12. They say to calculate all your cost in materials, time, packaging, etc then x3. I think you need to consider your location, competition etc. People where I live have no qualms paying $$$ for candles at Walmart or the dollar stores. So competing with those types of stores is tough. We have a couple local Candle shops-Yankee Candle, Adirondack Candles which do mainly votives and jars. Yankee has the basic tart melts, and Adirondack has Aroma Shots. Hence this is why I chose to branch out and do Specialized melts. They are unique to my area so I have no competition on them. I also do the Aroma Bead Sachets and Air Fresheners--again Unique to my area. If you have a high request you should be able to sell them at a decent price.
  13. Hello everyone, I had made a HUGE mistake by switching my original wax to a wax that came highly recommended from CS. After using it I found that the wax was pure soy and not the blend that I wanted. I spoke to a rep there and I was informed the wax I wanted was their Eco Soy PB blend. Not realizing PB meant Pillar Blend, Not Paraffin Blend. I was completely disheartened when I made a batch of my strawberries and they were all frosted looking. I was advised by CS to mix or blend paraffin with the Eco Soy. Whic of course is now costing me alot more money. They recommended a 75/25 ratio, however It'sstill looking a bit frosted to me. Any suggestions on what ratio is better or what I can do to stop the frosted look? I like the feel of the blend, it's a much harder wax which is something I wanted but I'm just disappointed in the frosted appearance. Also I am having hot throw scent issues again. Great Cold throw. Any thoughts on that as well?
  14. HMMMM I didn't think of that. Probably Natural Surfactants but I would be interested in soap base as well.
  15. Yes it's frosting. I sent the picture off to CS and they said that 100% soy wax will frost no matter what you do. But they strongly advised that I check my temps. They compared it to a chocolate bar that gets white powdery look on the bottom. I can't eat them but I was always told if Chocolate has white on it not to eat it because it's old and no good. Does that mean my wax is no good--LOL I switched to the CS wax trying to save a little money, I saw that it said PB, I took that as a paraffin blend, instead it meant Pillar Blend. They told me I could add paraffin to it to stop the frosting, which will cost me more in the long run. I can get a soy/paraffin blend from NG for $18.99-10lbs vs $17.99 +$18.99-per 10lbs from CS. Is anyone ever completely happy with their wax choices? Do you think I could use the CS-wax for tin container Citronella Candles? I need to find a use for it.
  16. Hello everyone, I have been searching the threads for past post on making a body wash. I used to make bar/mold soaps when I had my herb shop but I never made a body wash. Any suggetions? I want to make a nice wash for my family. Something with a good moisturizer.
  17. I'm using a new wax -CS Ecosoya PB Pillar Soy Wax Ihaven't seen this before. There supposed to be dark Red. They look Frosted instead.
  18. TY I am sooooooo ready for warmer weather and brighter colors. Spring is close Hopefully!!!
  19. TY Turtle Wax I like the idea of chocolate covered bannanas.
  20. Nice Job candlekitty!! I do everything to prevent jump lines and you go out of your way to make them. I didn't know they could look so good.
  21. I will have to give that a try. How much do you put in each cutter? I fill to 1/4". I forgot to mention that I cut some off with scissors as well, but some shapes pose problems using scissors.
  22. I currently use wooden skewers as well. For 99 cents you get a bunch of them and I wipe them off and reuse them.
  23. Hi, I got so frustrated with trying to pick out the proper wick to get the "right" burn that I chose to take my candle making to Melts. I do a few votives and containers, but I primarily do melts. Plus I do Aroma Bead air fresheners and sachets. Good luck and I hope to see your candle line soon.
