  1. I remain in awe of your abilities! You learn fast grasshopper Mtngrl I may try your idea of the full circumference paper.
  2. I like the subtle color change, and the layers are very evenly spaced. Good job!
  3. Maybe if you stop drinking the layers on the candles will be straight Very nice I am jealous
  4. Very nice. You are indeed the 'cane goddess now !
  5. Good looking pillars, soon I will try marbled.
  6. It took me a couple of tries before I kinda-sorta got the technique down. Still have to work on getting the embed to stick all the way to the edge. I used two skewers and wet dishtowels on my daughter's wedding 'cane, and it seemed to do pretty good. I think i'll try the chopsticks and/or the wooden spoon too. Knowing what a perfectionist you are, I'll bet your embed wasn't that bad
  7. Outstanding job! I hope to make one similar for my parents. Pass along my congratulations to them!
  8. mrs geekrunner and I will keep all our fallen heroes in our prayers, and to you to make great hurricanes to pay tribute to them when needed.
  9. Satin, I poured the wax into a shallow cookie sheet, heated several 3" seamless molds, and set them open end into the sheet. Let them set up, and then removed the molds one at a time to reveal the discs. Then I removed, drilled the centers out, and smoothed edges with a large 4" wide wall scraper. If there is a demand, I can take pics of the process and post a thread on it with instructions.
  10. Those are magnificent! If you're selling them, you should get lots of money!
  11. Good job, you little candle-hugger you!
  12. Looks fine, though I'm not familiar with the Battenburg scent. Fruity or spicy or neither?
  13. An example is displayed in my avatar. It has a 2 1/4" hole saw drill bit on it. I made several 3" by 3/4" thick discs of wax, colored appropriately. Drilled out with my hole saw drill bit to make rings. Then I took my hand coping saw and cut each ring at an angle in two places, trimmed the angled parts to fit together as close as possible, then set them in the mold. Poured the filler wax in and crossed my fingers! I'll try another soon with just two colors, and then one with three but all in pieces, rather than like this was done. I have my master project still in the works, but I will not reveal till I can do it to my satisfaction. Thanks for all the great comments!
  14. My original intent was for a three color twist, using the pour to fill in where the missing area was, thus the crazy result. I will try using just two pieces/colors to keep them fitting tight against the side of mold. It's my ongoing attempt at better candles through power tools! LOL
  15. I got impatient working on a certain look, and just threw this together. Wanted a twisted spiral look. Red and green pieces just fitted together and set into mold, then poured straight paraffin filler. Scented with Patchouli. Have at it guys!
  16. Thanks TBD, my previous attempts at 'canes were only slight disasters, very thick and embeds caught fire! I do intend to give my daughter and SIL a package of scented tealights with plastic cups for it. I lit a metal cup tealight in it for testing, and it melted a depression deep enough to use as a "holder" to center it. Also, I glued a circle of cork under it for a coaster. Thanks for the helpful tips!
  17. Excellent color. I would expect that to smell fresh. BTW didja ever notice that scent makers like to describe their scents the same way winemakers do? Using flowery words like "overtones" and "undertones"? Makes me chuckle
  18. Very nice combination of smooth and mottled. Very stylish, I might add.
  19. You are the hurricane goddess! I just made one for my daughter for her wedding in two weeks. I admire your skill!
